Steam deck oled 1tb is $650 .. Ally x is $800 I wouldn’t call that double the price
I think they were talking about base prices because the steam deck technically still starts at 399. Just not 1TB and OLED.
And deck is even more expensive than the ally in other countries due to it not being available in stores. Shipment fee + tax and yes no warranty as well it because it is imported.
UK: SD OLED starts at £450, ALLY X £800. Almost double the price.
@@robnavarro9405 he specifically. Compares the oled, not the base steam deck
They're completely ripping you guys off. £800 is literally over $1K... @128KB and it's $800 here as well. Asus really thought they were being sneaky.. I'm an american and I like to talk smack to british people. But I actually feel bad for you on that one. That's just disrespectful from asus.
just suscribed, awesome video.
No handheld in my hands right now, but as an xbox user, the rog ally X, is exactly what I want for my gamepass experience, and also being able to play everything on Steam, even games that the steam deck can't run is already a inmense win.
the only thing that keeps the steam deck as a valid alternative is the fact that it is such a casual experience, with games installation, games verified, and suspense/hibernation mode that actually works with no tinkering.
other than that, as an experienced windows user, and geek as I am, i would take the rog ally X everyday of the week.
thanks so much for subbing! The Ally really is the ultimate game pass machine.
What game are they playing at 07:28? I've seen it on other videos, but can't ever get the name of it. It looks cool!
It’s called hifi rush
Already pre-ordered and put my old one up for sale
so guys? if i have a steam deck would you recommend selling my steam deck and get the ally x and play both casual and bleeding edge triple a games?
yes
I never owned a steam deck but I do have an ally and it's been excellent. This ally x is a huge upgrade in my opinion and I'm contemplating upgrading. I think the steam deck is nice and I'm sure the user experience is better but the ally will play more demanding games. If you don't mind using windows then I say go with the x. I'm not a steam deck hater though I think it's a great product it just lacks the power a bit. I play some pretty demanding games on my ally and it's pretty impressive for a handheld. The battery life is horrible though I don't care how much tweaking you do it still sucks.
Man if the screen was 8 inch on the ally x it would have been the amazing. Even more important than the oled everyone’s requesting
I'm new to this and purchased the 1TB Steam OLED, so intuitive and really enjoying the deck with the matte display. ROG X has a glossy display which would be very distracting due to reflections for me.
Yooo have you guys tested quick resume on the Ally X? Yes Bazzite is a possibility but Bazzite still doesn't support eGPUs T_T
hibernate was always very reliable in my experience on the first ally...
@@flathead950 whoa for reals??? No random wake-ups, and how's battery drain on hibernate?
@@hameerz No hibernate was never known to cause random wake ups, and it just doesn't. Battery drain is the about same as deck.
@@hameerz Hibernate causes some of my games to crash or freeze.
what about playing single player games, like souls type, or uncharted adventure type, etc steam deck or ally x?
The Ally or Legion Go are the only handhelds you should even be looking at. The Deck is weak and its lack of windows limits its potential.
Get an Ally Z1X or X
ngl I love my deck OLED and hate windows on handhelds, but I’m so tempted to get an Ally eventually for better performance and the anti cheat games like COD. I think I’ll hold out for the Ally 2 with even better performance and hopefully OLED
I think both the Ally X and the Steam Deck offer phenomenal bang for your buck! Depending on your needs and taste each offers excellent features and value at a fair price.
Nailed it!
Thanks for this video comparison. I love my steam deck oled, but the Ally X is very intriguing. Too bad Asus had major issues with their SD card reader and customer service.
All i want to know is the battery life with 20w from battery (normally 15tdp mode) is it ez 3 hours or 4 hours?
As always, depends on the game and settings. I seen videos where they go max settings on a steam deck and they a get like two hours worth. But the ally x is too new to me and idk how much battery it has. I’d say keep searching for best results.
@@TheLuconic I had og ally at 15w it would normally use 20-23w from battery and i was right about the hours
The problem with some people is that if they don't hear what they want you to say, or if they object to your opinion because it differs from their device preference, they will claim it is sponsored. I mean, I can tell that it is not sponsored and you guys are telling based on your experience of using it by the way you guys talk and how excited your voices are when discussing the Ally X, specially when talking about how good the screen is. That is the same expression I have when I got my Ally. Mesmerized.
ikr. these people are the same type who like to start a 'console war' even when they are just PC handhelds.
@@celtycelluloidit’s really the steam deck stans lol. I love my OG ally. Got it used for around 500. Performance is about the same from what it seems so I’m not sure why the hosts don’t bring that up as an option. I returned my SD oled for the ally and I’m very happy as I can play all the games I want trouble free. Passing on the X, but I’ll upgrade for next gen with the new chipset. For 500$ I can’t recommend it more, specially with the constant software updates.
@@giannski I will just wait for a real console handheld from real gaming companies, ie Sony. Might go get a switch 2 in the mean time. I used to play on PC for better performance and visuals, but since then I really dont care about these stuff very much now. I just want to play my PS games on the go with native support, not a emu, not a PC port. I guess I'm not encouraged by the recent Sony PC ports really. I hope gaming be more simple and cheaper like a few years ago. But anyway.
@@celtycelluloid rumors have it switch 2 should be around ps4/ps4 pro levels of power, which should be more than fine for now. Only issue is getting third party games onto it, which is why the steam deck/rog ally are so nice. I was hopinh the weird ps5 controller thingy would be sony's "steam deck" but that just ended up being a glorified tablet. Maybe microsoft might try something seeing as how they're basically ditching xbox nowadays
@@epicgamerzfail4575 Yeah. I never had a switch before so I'm thinking maybe I should be getting one if it is going to have tons of good 1st party games plus maybe some good Sony or Xbox ports who knows? If Sony release a new handheld plays all PS4 games natively at least, it will great too. I mainly play PS games anyway. PC handheld like the steam deck or Ally, is more powerful and flexible, but tbh, I can't justify the price of the hardware anymore especially when they like to release 'new versions' every year or two. I just need a cheaper simple device that can run games locally and natively, no need to be too fancy really.
I just preordered my ally X …. I use my white ally for gaming in handheld mode and I code and program on it while docked so the more ram will be greatly appreciated
Referring to the 7" LCD version. Seems fair as far as entry. The X is 7" and LCD. $840 after tax is pricey. I'll troll for a sale.
I have a PS5 and a PC, i play mostly RPG's and Action/Adventure games, i have a lot of games in the steam library. Could be a good strategy to buy a steam deck oled for most games and just remote play the big AAA games from PS5? The Rog Ally is very expensive and having a PS5 i think that the Steam deck will fill that "relax couch" void. Cheers
No it won’t. Ally is the ultimate device and worth the price
You absolutely correct if you want to play indie games and the games you already have on ya ps5. Steam deck is a handheld ps5 because not that many steam games are supported except for the one that are on consoles but you can just stream play ps5 games on ya phone so why waste money for another ps5….
I love my SD oled for its battery life and ease of use when playing on Steam, but the resolution on oled is kinda bad, text doesn't look sharp for my 40+ years old eyes. I have another handheld, the GPD win mini 2024 that has the same lcd screen as the ROG Ally, while it has smaller lcd screen, but the 1080p display delivers a crisp text and much easier to read.
I wonder if they got rid of bloatware and fine tuned the optimization before making this video. I followed a video that went in depth with all the things you can do to get better performance from the rog and there was a significant increase. I went from getting 45 fps on Resident evil 4 remake to a smooth constant 65 fps and resident evil is one of the most demanding games right now. I also went from getting 90-100 fps on 720p on medium settings on overwatch to constant 120 fps in 1080p high settings. This was on the original Ally I wonder how much better it plays with more ram.
can you link or give a route to that video? sounds great
@@frieren848 look up in TH-cam “the ultimate rog ally tuning guide! Increase over all performance…..” from a channel called cppc tek. Also recommend watching a couple other similar videos, most cover the basics but every now and then someone shares some new info the last guy didn’t know about and often times it’s a really small difference but it can quickly stack up.
Super excited for the ROG Ally X. I might be insane preordered it for music production. I missed out on the original Ally but more RAM, more space and more battery? I seem to have stumbled upon the ROG Ally X at the perfect time. I have an Odin 2, a PS4 and a Switch but my laptops are too old to run Steam games well. I'm getting this ROG Ally X to use FL Studio on mobilly and also play some games I can't play anywhere else like "Fading Afternoon" or "Palworld" with my friends or the new Sonic and Dragon Ball games when they come out. I was gonna get a dock and turn this thing into my new lortable desktop. I already have a screen and keyboard/mouse. I'm super excited to cook up some tracks on here and also play a few games too.
My friends are saying I'm crazy for buying this instead of a laptop or a desktop. But I wanted something more portable & it seems to be able to do everything I want it to do. Plus I'm not a super huge gamer so I won't be playing a lot of FPS games or any od the huge flagship titles. Maybe some anime games as they release and some light emulation that I can't do on my Odin 2. I hope I don't regret my purchase 😭
All the laptops I was looking at were a little out of my pricerange and all had drawbacks that scared me from pulling the trigger on a purchase. I almost copped the Lenovo Legion GO for the bigger screen but I don't like the concept of joy cons. The console seems a little shakier and more fragile. I feel like the Ally X will be a little more durable.
I also thought about copping a Steam Deck but I heard Windows programs like FLSTUDIO would run better on the Ally. I need something I csn have a smooth production experience on
I love seeing people with alternative uses! It is just a PC at the end of the day so will likely suit your needs there!
You could find more bang for your buck getting a gaming laptop. Trying to use this as a primary music production device when it’s made for gaming is insane.
If I find Steam Deck slightly big, will ROG Ally X be a good alternative?
Yes the ALLY X is smaller and easier to grip
There's a lot to consider, first the difference in size isn't big. Also Ally X is slightly heavier, wayyy bulkier on depth. Ergonomics of the deck are also much more comfortable for long sessions to many but that's subjective so it could be the opposite for you. What good is a slightly smaller thing if it doesn't feel as good in your hand. Anyway given that the size difference isn't much and there are multiple other factors to weight in it'd be really a poor answer to just answer "yes" to this one.
Gotta agree with the video tho that only for FPS the sticks placement on the ally feels more precise.
@@flathead950you haven't even holded the rog ally x. Lol what, and the ally x is the saame weight as the lcd steam deck.
@@AnotherAspect-hg9mp Stupid reply, neither have you. I was very nuanced in my reply stating it's subjective and even stated ally could be a better fit for him.
@@flathead950 The Ally is a lot smaller then the Deck. When I first bought my LCD Deck I just couldn't believe how large it was. The Ally size feels just right and actually I would call it a nicely sized handheld. I am glad they didn't make a bigger screen as I really like it's more compact size than the very large handheld which is the deck.
Just pre ordered the ally x, wanted something portable for out of house or in bed etc and i think it compliments the ridiculous 4grand I've spent on my main windows gaming rig
100% this is for you! Perfect companion. I've preordered one now too
Just got the ally open box 385 at Best Buy. Very happy with this device. Had the of steam deck, Sold it quickly.
I recently bought an Oled. Really like it. But I also like my PC and PS5. I definitely buying the ROG Ally X. But will keep the Deck as well. Mainly as I like Ea24 etc and new games
Im considering upgrade my SD oled to ally x when its available in my country
Better than the latest One X Player i terms of performance? I doubt it
I'm wanting to upgrade from my lcd sd. To me, it comes down to the screen. The problem is they're both great. Oled's color gamut and contrast ratio is just a big deal for most games I play. On the other hand, 1080p and vrr sounds so good, and now I find out it smells amazing too! IDK which to upgrade to.
🤣 it does smell amazing! It's a tough choice, the OLED is a beautiful bigger screen but 1080pVRR is also a pleasure to game on. It really comes down to price and what kinda games you want to play. It's a big price jump up to the ALLY but you get native Game Pass/any PC launcher etc. and better AAA performance. Steam Deck excels for older/indie titles with the odd AAA sometimes being playable.
Make sure you watch AAAs benchmarks for ally before you buy, if you're thinking it's a 1080p mostly 60 FPS experience all around playing AAAs you're in for a huge disappointment.
Recently picked up the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme, Very happy with performance in the games I play.
The Ally X wasn’t even on my radar till yesterday!
Shame pre orders are such a nightmare here in Ireland.
sold my steamdeck oled for the ally x!
I don't even have to watch this video, with double the battery life plus the rapid updates Windows games and Windows itself have been receiving, with things like improved standby and identical performance at 15 watts, well, this is going to be a crushing defeat for the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck can't do 1 single thing better than the ROG Ally X. Running Steam in 'big picture' mode gives the full Steam experience too! Steam was designed for Windows, that's where Valve makes its money, selling games to Windows gamers.
I still gave it a thumbs up!
2:00 The Ally X has the exact same APU as the Ally and several competitors. It is impossible for it to be head and shoulders above its competitors in performance. In features, maybe, but not performance. We're also on the verge of the Zen 5 Strix / Ryzen AI 9 series releasing. Call the Ally X what it is: an interim device meant to solve the Ally's high RMA rate and clear out remaining stock of Z1 Extreme APUs before releasing the Ally 2.
I have a PS5, which I use to play PS4 and PS5 titles, I also have an old clunker PC which is great for 15-20 year old games, but lacks the oomph. I’m looking at the ROG Ally X to replace that PC completely. I might even invest in Game Pass if it suits me. (I’ll probably also get the PlayStation remote play too tbh, as I wouldn’t want a PlayStation Portal as well) uhh, and uhhh …switch emulation maybe…
I have a steam deck 256LCD I’m looking for another device and have my radar on the claw if they lower the price many reviews says it’s very janky but with a few more updates though out this year could be my next handheld we’re living in a great time many companies want to compete and that’s a great thing for us could consumers
I want a steamdeck but lack of tethering support makes me think a windows handheld might be better for me. Seriously tempted to get the ally x
Bro I own the deck, ally and legion go. Get the Ally, it’s the best easily. The Legion Go is a close second. The deck is worthless, its lack of windows and 1080p is DOA compared to the Ally or Legion Go.
The panel used in Ally is top tier and it shows exactly why OLED is not necessary. VRR is also a must until they can cap max fps in all games. I'd take that oanel any day over OLED. OLED causes a lot of issues for many eoth prolong use over years.
I’m happy with my steam deck oled le.. but if the reviews are really good I’ll think about picking up the new ally
Bruh that's a waste of money, just wait a few years for battery life to really improve.
Steam deck ease of use depends on weather your games are mostly from Steam and provided they work, But if they don't work be prepared for compatibility layers, protons versions, command lines, and doing lots of research and even then they may not work at all. While windows gives you access to all native pc games from all launchers along with repacks, anticheat games, Lossless Scaling/ universal frame generation, abandonware games, along with being able to use any kind of pc software. There are also frontends like playnite, steam big picture mode for a more streamline gaming.
Nailed it!
yeah, ironically enough the rog ally is more user friendly in terms of ease of use/plug and play. Windows machine will always be more straightforward for the average joe when it comes to gaming specifically. Valve deserves some praise for constantly trying to push linux gaming but as you said, if a game doesn't natively work for the steam deck it's a lot of hoops to get it working.
There's apps that will do all the backend stuff for you. most of my games are not on steam and I've never worried about whether or not it works.
The only thing that doesn't work is kernel level rootkits.
I have a steam deck Oled currently and love it. Do you think it’s worth it to sell it and upgrade it just keep my Oled. For context, I have no current issues with it whatsoever.
if its not broken don't fix it
It all depends on the games you like to play, indie/older titles = keep steam deck. If you're only after the latest releases and want native game pass = got for the ally X!
I have a regular ally and would say, keep the steam deck oled man. I’ve been using my ally almost exclusively for ps5 remote play via chiaki and I’m currently happy with it. But I wish it had the OLED screen HDR, and the touch pad support. I’ll wait for the ally 2 which will probably have an updated OLED screen and new AMD processor.
Just want to add, I wouldn’t trade my ally for a regular steam deck, as I would see it as a downgrade. But I wouldn’t necessarily see it as a downgrade if I traded it for a deck oled. There’s trade offs, but I see them as equals. Also, if you could wait a month or two, the ally x’s will probably drop a couple hundred bucks just like the regular ally’s did.
It's also almost $1k which puts many consumers out
If only it was cheaper
This looks like a great upgrade to the OG Ally. Always wanted a bigger battery. But after using my OG SteamDeck and Ally for over a year now, i think I will wait for Xbox or PS handheld instead. PC gaming experience is just not that too great compare to console for me.
I'm still in the process of deciding which handheld I want to buy.
Wait for the Switch 2 announcement later this year. It'll blow the other handhelds out of the park.
@@Mis4hathe reveal is going to be next year lol they have new games for the current switch they is no way they gonna announce that when they still want ppl to buy switch to buy those games
@@Mis4haunless you’re a child, no it won’t.
I bought the deck oled after having ally and go . For gaming and ease of use steam deck oled is just better and balanced . But if i will ever have to use a windows handheld then that will be legion go , the screen is the killer .
Can't the ally run indie games like the steamdeck? I don't see the need for both of them
You're right, really. For 90% of people there's only need to have one device, especially for the prices, however SD can run at a lower TPD so if you're just into Indies you'll likely get better battery etc from the SD. Then you could use the ALLY X for the more modern or multiplayer stuff but yeah you could just go ALLY X and run everything there.
Rog ally x playing a indie game at 7 watts should net you about 6-8 hours on battery. 10w should be about 5-7 hours. 15w should be about 3 1/2 hours. 18w should be about 2 1/2 hours. Full throttle will about about 2 hours or right under it
But can it play Alan Wake 2
If the Ally X is amazing, just imagine Steam Deck 2 or the next handheld gaming... what a great time to be alive!
100%!!
Still no oled and the same chip as the first ally with the z1 extreme, no track pads and still just 7 inch
They said one of the ports on the ROG ally X can plug in external EGPU which is mean you can plug an external graphic card better than XGM Mobile port? Yes XGM port is better than the other port but which one you have to pay more if it shows that one port is cheaper than the other port means this port is cheaper than the other one to USB 4 port is a type thunderbolt four that can plug-in external graphic card can give you enough performance you need means you can use AMD or Nvidia which is that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m not gonna buy this product but I have a different product which is Lenovo Legion go because it has a USB 4 port means you can plug into any external graphic card
i bought the steam deck oled a few weeks ago , but i will be selling it to put the funds towards the ally x , steamdeck is great dont get me wrong , but it just has alot of limitations - EAC is a nightmare on linux
He's comparing the steam decks high end features like Oled But then comparing the price to the low end steam deck that does not include those features
No, we're comparing SD OLED to ALLY X. In the UK SD OLED is £450, ALLY X is £800.
Wait a couple months. Grab Ally X at a discount.
I have the Ally and it is already better than Deck, Oled is awesome but vrr 1080p and 16:9 aspect ratio are more important in gaming, also way better performance, smaller and more portable, and even with it's limitation, Windows is much better than Steam OS which with Linux is not compatible with a lot of games, store and anti cheat. Only bad thing on Ally right now is battery life, and by double it they fixed that, also more and faster ram will give a 10% performance boost. But remember, new mobile hardware release every year, AMD already has Stirx Point APU coming with 35% better performance than the Ally Z1e, so next year we will already see Ally 2 and other handheld with much more performance, of course the Z1e will still be fine, but if you want the best in handheld especially to play AAA another upgrade will be required in 2025
This is the right comment, that's why I feel its better to have a console like optimised handheld like the oled for far cheaper or even the original ally till these new chips are used
Main thing about the new chips will also be efficiency
I don't even think asus is competing with deck because deck can't already keep up I would say Asus is competing with Legion Go, MSI claw and Ayaneo, heck even OneXplayer and GDP win would be a better comparison since they are much better device than the deck.
@@nathanjuan6042 power isn't everything, just look at the switch
@@TJ-cs6vu Switch can play all switch games. Can deck play all PC games? It is a PC right? You buy PS5 to play all PS5 games. Can deck play all Steam Games? Buying a handhled PC to all PC games in any platform because it is a PC is great. I'm not saying deck is bad tho it just that it has so many limitations including one of the most important thing the screen 800p on a handheld? Your looking at the screen all the time when playing.
I dont play much games on pc (Windows, linux) besides game consoles like ps5 or switch. I do have a rog ally but my experience wirh it is alittle more on the negative side. At this point if you ask me Im planning to rid my Ally for a steamdeck oled because of the beautiful screen and battery. I also had the original steamdeck and havent had much crash or errors as much I had with ally. Good day people! 👍
Already put my preorder going from og z1x to ally x my one regret spending money on a 2tb 2230 ssd and finding out it’s 2280 now womp womp
Just put your 2230 into the Ally X, it'll still take it!
@@128KB Exactly. Get a 4 USD adapter to extent the 2230 SSD to the 2280 format. Its still the same technology, so no compatibility issues.
I don't get the hype, it's like you're rediscovering the moon all over again... It's pretty much the exact same ally performance wise.
It's not a machine that's gonna run your latest AAA at good settings at 1080p at all. You can expect 900p medium/high settings on the best optimized AAAs at around 40 fps.
Good point is ASUS software has been good if not on par with steam deck's for a while now. However the screen is still very small for AAA gaming...
The VRR thing is not making miracles when your games stuttering, its no magic.
Personally after buying the deck oled and ally i'm now only using the deck to stream games from my gaming rig. Larger screen, max graphics, HDR, fluid 60 FPS and all. It feels right for AAAs for me. When i'm on the road I got an entire backlog of smaller games that run perfectly fine on it. I don't feel like those consoles shine for AAA gaming at all on their own right now.
It all depends on your will to compromize I guess. Also at this very high price isn't it more reasonable to just wait for ally 2 with actual better performance next year?
They don't have the original Ally, which is why they are so excited. I felt the same way when I got my Ally; you can tell they're not faking it by the sound of their voice. It's been six months, and I'm still mesmerized by how good the screen is on my Ally. I play all my games in 1080p my games in gamepass, epic, and steam which the deck cannot do. Besides, why would anyone buy a handheld pc if they have a more powerful PC or laptop? I have a gaming laptop from 2017 that can no longer handle modern games. That's why I boughy my ally and why I'm so impressed with my Ally; it's a smaller device that outperforms my older laptop. Also that 24gb faster ram which is 7500MHz speed so games should run smoother than ever also a factor since it is a shared ram you don't need to allocate their pool of ram 8gb for GPU and 16gb for system. Some games requires higher VRAM some require higher ram than the GPU with 24gb is just enough for modern AAA games today and upcomming games.
@@nathanjuan6042 It's understandable if they didn't own the ally before.
It is absolutely not true however that ally plays 1080p AAAs well. If you want 1080p it's just gonna be a miserable experience at best on demanding game. There 900p is where it's at with medium/high graphics.
The thing was dying on me trying to play witcher 3 at high at 900p 40 FPS and it's not a new release by any means.
Elden ring at 1080p 40+ fps with high graphics is not happening either, not the most demanding AAA either.
When I got my ally my experience was "ok this thing runs AAAs... with lots of compromises."
Your question "why would anyone buy handhelds if they have a better pc " answers itself... Pcs are not handhelds, I rarely bring my gaming rig in my bed.
@@flathead950 I play all my games in 1080p, On my gamepass Hi-fi Rush, Forza Horizon 5, Horizon Motor sport, Persona 3 reload, Gotham Knights and on my Epic Kingdom Hearts 3, Fortnite, Genshin on my Steam GTA 5, FF15, Witcher 3, Horizon Dawn, FF7 Remake, , Forspoken, Tekken 8, Ratchet and Clank rift Apart, Persona Strikers. without any problem or issues. Some games need more than 4gb of GPU so you do need to change your VRAM to 6gb or 8gb if your gonna play Rift apart because the default VRam on ally is 4gb but you can change that in the settings depends on what games you play. Also turn on VRR so that if a game fluctuates under 60fps VRR will kick in to eliminate issues like screen tearing and stuttering, providing a smoother gaming experience. There is also AMD Fluid Motion.
@@nathanjuan6042 Again your statement is very vague, "playing at 1080p" with no details on the compromises you make to achieve this, at what FPS, what graphical settings etc on the most demanding titles isn't saying much at the end of the day.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and confirmation bias and the way they perceive reality, i'll just redirect people to pretty much every benchmark online regarding AAA titles on rog ally to backup my claims.
No doubt your Ally behaves different than the rest of us, let's leave it at that.
@@flathead950 yeah nathan got that typical ignorant response. He genuinely doesnt know he is getting like 20fps and thinks everything is running good. I plan to get a Steam deck. Its good to hear that the streaming works as i would use my PC as well for any crazy demanding game. but i also plan to use the deck for older games ive never played and emulation.
There are too many caveats with the Steam Deck in my opinion. Yes, Windows has some jank in handheld form but I think it is widely overblown. I love what Valve has done with SteamOS but then you can't play multiplayer games or games like Destiny 2 and on top of that the Steam Deck just does not have the umph to run a lot of newer games. For me, the fact that I can natively install any launcher I want and I don't have to worry about compatibility issues on top of having much more power for games makes the Ally a much better purchase for me.
Can i Download steam with the rog x and play my steam Games just as i can Do on my steam Deck?
The deck is way better in terms of optimization, a lot of those games you’re running are set to the high TDPS and turbo mode. The steam deck is running most of those same games at 15 w TDP or less in some cases. Which makes it more battery efficient , especially on the OLED. Yeah, it runs windows so you have access to everything, but it’s a pc first and a handheld second still because of that. I do think you guys emphasize too much on the power aspects of the ROG ally X vs the overall usage. The steam deck is still a powerful device, not just a “simple” device.
In the end when it comes to PC games. It's always the two groups, specs vs real use. To me personally I wanted a PC that's handheld to play games, not a handheld that plays PC games.
@@Afeeq1011 Yes, as a PC gamer, I want a handheld PC that can handle all PC games. If you only need a handheld with a better battery, then why not buy a Switch or a PS Vita, which have better batteries? Why not just play on a smartphone instead? We buy a handheld PC to play all PC games, not limited games or those locked to one platform. If you buy a PS5, you expect it to play all PS5 games. Similarly, when buying a handheld PC, you should expect it to play all PC games.
@@nathanjuan6042think there are people who wants to play steam games with good battery life too mate, not all people play those AAA graphic intensive game
Exactly
The steamdeck is horrible. When I had the lcd model I couldn’t believe how many flaws it had. Starting from the cheap cardboard packaging. The tinkering and Linux is a complete deal breaker. Having to always look at verified or not is dumb as hell. ASUS knocked it out the park on the first try. Valve is on its second and still way behind.
I've never heared anyone say:
Do you get a lot of screen tearing with the steam deck while you play? Any game really, preferably high end one
Crazy. Most people lock their frame rates that’s why. But if you unlock it and it’s going between 30-60fps then you’ll see lots of screen tearing and it’s actually annoying. Now if you use vsync then you won’t experience any problems
Well ... SD OLED is almost 1k in my country.
Not to mention SD lcd 64 is same price as ROG Ally z1x
😱 what country?! That's insane

Netiher. The Legion Go is THE one
Can you guys comment on the difference in pixel density? The crispness of the 1080p Ally screen comes at the disadvantage (in my case due to eyesight) of further increasing pixel density. It’s hard enough to read text on the OLED Deck’s 800p 7.4” screen. I don’t think I could see or read properly at the Ally’s pixel density.
The Legion Go is tempting at 1600p at the ~8” screen size. Knock a game resolution to 800p and get much more eye friendly pixel density.
How does that work? Text is a lot more readable on 1080p than 800p... theres just more pixel density to actually display the data properly... Some text in red dead 2 on my deck is pretty much impossible to read even by someone with great eyesight. Perfectly redeable on ally if you bump the resolution.
What do you mean you can't play call of duty on steam deck? Yes you can
@@stevenduncan6555 single player yeah, multiplayer no, not natively. Yes you can install windows on the Steam Deck or stream it from your rig/Xbox or PS but we're talking natively here on SteamOS.
Couldn't care less about Oled. All bout pixel density for me and refresh rate
I think I will wait 2-3 year more until a handheld can GTA 6 at least 60fps at mid to high settings… long way to go I guess
GTA 6 will probably release on PS6 which is next Gen console probably around 2026 and we probably have a more powerful handheld a 2nd or 3rd Gen processor for handheld that can play GTA 6. Handheld is booming and I am exited for the future of handheld you'll never know maybe a Xbox handheld or Plastation handheld will release that time as well or maybe NVDIA or Qualcom would enter the handheld market as well it can be razer, ailienware or acer. The more options the better.
The Ally X will easily do that. Unless Rockstar cannot optimize their games anymore.

He has a "ROG ALLY" and thinks it's very good. For my profile, playing an hour a day is incredible. The performance it has and the ease of use (as a Windows user) is phenomenal. I believe that when ALLYX comes out, there will be a lot of people trying to port its drums to ALLY. Asus got it right.
The Ally X is at a software/hardware level a decent PC laptop equivalent, but doesn't have the ergonomics (mostly trackpads) of the SteamDeck.
The SteamDeck is like an UberSwitch for people who only care about Steam. If most if your games are on Steam, I wouldn't waste your time or money on anything rlse right now.
Now if you want a more mobile gaming laptop with Windows, by all means buy an Ally X. The two platforms have little overlap in practice even though in theory they should be direct competitors.
OS, customer support, and community alone makes the steam deck better. The competition brand is known for overpricing, bad quality, and bad customer support.
The ALLY X is really tempting to me, but I'm just about on the side of waiting a bit longer to see what the true 2.0 / next generation of these handheld pc's will look like. I have a steam deck OLED to tie me over, and love it - I use it way more than my PS5 which is starting to gather dust. But my biggest gripe is not being able to play FIFA on it, which is my go to 'casual play' game. I think if they had also updated the ALLY X with a slightly larger screen (7.5-8inch), i'd probably sell my steamdeck and buy it, because it would tick all the boxes for me personally. For now will continue to wait...
My OG Ally & OLED Deck will do for me, Fortnite is my go to but the latter can’t run that due to the fact that it’s running Linux, of which Tim Sweeney made terrible excuses on why it can’t run Fortnite on Linux/SteamOS.
@@DeterminedTorres Dream roadmap goes like this: SD OLED / RogAlly (with power bank) if you have them OR get Ally X next month ----> Hold 2 years until the true next gen has arrived and matured, everyone wins.
I haven't bought any of these devices yet so the X is a no brainer to me even on release, I'm not obsessed with A games but I can't accept 20fps or sub30fps performance on ANY $500+ device, also I like shooters so no Fornite or COD or Battlefield is horrible for me.
64 gb SD refurb is 250$ in Canada compared to 800-1000 for the other handhelds. So at this point, I'd recommend either that or wait for 2nd gen of handhelds with the much better cpus.
Rog Ally: FPS Game
Steam Deck: RPG
Ally x will drop in price quick that’s when I will get it 👍🏼
I dont have anything yet, and my job is now forcing 14 hours of overtime every week. So yeah next check im getting that ally x
Asus blows, but I like how the x sounds and looks. Good improvements, but they're gonna do this every year like laptops so meh, it'll never touch Steam's optimization. If the batteyr life still sucks it's pointless though.
Console people are just kids who like to be spoonfed.
A reliable suspend and resume is the Steam Deck's killer feature. Absolutely essential for portable play where you only have a few minutes here and there to squeeze in some gameplay. Windows sleep/hibernate is janky, unreliable, and slow by comparison.
This is exactly why I prefer the steam deck. Had an ally and I returned it after a couple of weeks. Glad I got the steam deck.
Once I get the rog ally x, it's getting bazzite immediately because of this feature 😂
Have ypu tried it yourself tho ? Or just repeating what youve heard someone say. Because my experience with hibernate on ally is that it's surprisingly reliable. Rarely have i had a game crash on me, if at all.
Fact that you're comparing sleep and hibernate as if they're the same thing is very telling.
One doesn't work and is janky asf, the other again is surprisingly reliable.
I was never one for suspend/resume, but I can definitely see the allure to a lot of people. It's definitely nice when I'm like at an airport and trasnitioning from the waiting lobby to an airplane
@epicgamerzfail4575 it's honestly a must for portable gaming. I do uber on the side, so between rides, I can hop back on and off during rides
If you're comparing the ally x to the highest end OLED deck its nowhere near double the price.
We're comparing base OLED to ALLY X. UK pricing, SD OLED £450, ALLY X £800. Basically double.
@@128KBI bought a 1TB Oled Steam Deck for 679 euros. It would be fair to compare the Rog Ally X to the 1TB Steam Deck Oled.

for 800 pounds you can get a ps5 + steam deck or Xbox + steam deck
I'll admit I do keep looking at the ASUS ROG Ally X and Legion Go for that matter BUT always come back to the same realisation as to WHY I'd never get either - Windows 🤢🤮Which is why for me, my Steam Deck OLED will always win 🏆 🎉
The Ally is very easy to use. Steam automatically loads when I boot, I select the wattage I want with a press, then play a game.
Kids in elementary school can use Windows. So many weird SD fans that rage anytime a windows handheld is praised lmao.
Linux is basically the steamdecks main problem. Complete deal breaker. Windows is far far ahead of Linux
I respect your opinion, I have both the OG Ally and the OLED Deck and so far?
OLED Deck is great, but I had one problem: I can’t play Fortnite besides using Remote Play or Cloud Gaming which really isn’t ideal. Sweeney’s terrible excuses adds up as well. (Yes, I like the game, but I don’t like the company behind it)

Steam Deck OLED owner and love it. Tried both the Ally and Go and was left wanting more for the money 💰 Love what they’ve done with the X but you can now pick up the Ally refurbished for less than £400 and the go for around £450 in places. I don’t you’re getting £400 worth of improvements over either but I could be wrong. Tempted again with the Go due to that massive screen and make it a GamePass device as I prefer handheld.
Yeah totally, no doubt they'll drop the original Z1E price down at the launch of the X too. It's a big jump up to the X but lots of people will be wanting that huge battery, 2280 support, more RAM etc. for those that have loads of money the X is the way to go but for most, getting a discounted/refurb original is the way to go. I'm even stuck on that decision myself, get an original or sell my laptop for the X!
I’d personally rather the ally
Don't speak on VRR. You know nothing about it.
I just love Steam Deck fanboys. IF ONLY Steam had made a Deck with good stuff in it instead of picking mostly old parts and overpricing it. I'm waiting to see what Luna Lake handhelds will do Q4 24-Q2 25 because they can be much better.
Only thing that is stopping me from buying is windows 😢
and you think you'll have an easier time dealing with Linux compatibility if you go for a Deck? (if you go for one), there's no other simpler options in the market
I honestly thought windows would be an issue for me too but after using the X, I realise windows is what makes it great since you can player any game via any launcher, especially winning with native game pass!
I preorder it last week and your video hyped me a lot. I can’t wait to have the game pass machine in my hands 🥹
That's got to be my main thing too, I need to sell my laptop to be able to afford an ALLY X but I'm going to try 🤣
I’ve just sold my Mac mini M2 to afford the Ally X too. So we’re doing the same renovation to a more versatile/gaming machine. If you don’t use it, sell it! 💪🏽

It depends on the person using it
Valve's steam deck actually feels like a premium tripe A product, weather ROG Ally looks like it was designed for a teenager.

Asus is too expensive, their warranty is a joke. Valve has been a trust withy company so far. Steam OS is a open system, plays games well enough in a very impressive effective way. With proton there is a control over how a game can run. There has been cases with proton the game runs better then on Windows. And also we have to stop using a desktop operating system on a gaming devise. Windows just doesn't make sense
Yea no. Steamdeck has zero chance against the ally x. You can try to defend it but little by little everyone is realizing that is not even close. Asus is a hardware company, valve can never compete with that.
