The ally x will be my entry to pc gaming. That much power in a hand held is an interesting proposition. Plus, i want to play all the games and am tired of exclusives.
Just be prepared for the tinkering involved with windows. Especially if you aren't used to windows. As a lifelong user it's fine, but I can see it being challenging for new users. There's a lot of guides out there in optimizing for gaming, but many have bad tips which could potentially brick the Os. Personally, I love gaming on windows and the freedom it brings to the user. Being able to mod and run anything.
My honest opinion is and I'm trying not to be biased but... I nearly bought one of these for the exact same reason but I bit the bullet and built my first pc I spent £2000 on it and tbh I now realise I probably spent way more than I had to, add another £200-£300 on top of your rog or deck price you've got a decent pc and I think it would be worth the wait

I'm getting the Ally X as a gaming laptop replacement. I'm/was an original Ally owner and found a gaming handheld more comfortable to use than a gaming laptop.

I don't own a steam deck but they look nice and I don't hate on it. I like my rog ally besides battery life. Call of duty is trash now anyways and it has been for awhile.
I've got og steam deck and a rog ally extreme. I love the ally for its power and having windows makes it easier to set up more games but the SD is just ergonomically perfect imo and it's still pretty powerful. I use it to play mostly 6th and 7th generation games.
games pass ultimate IS bloody brilliant, but they NEED to make it so that you can play ALL of your owned games anywhere for things like this to take off fully
It’s not up to them. Game pass and steam have offline mode. It’s the individual developers/studios that have to give it that choice and unfortunately most new games are always online

My preorder is in... to me it's worth the money for what it brings to the table. Just the fact you can play everything you want and convert it into a desktop by docking it etc. I can't wait until release day now to get my hands on it!. Hopefully it's as good as I'm expecting. As someone who recently preordered the Ally X, I must say that you guys are absolutely smashing it with content for the sku and I’m here for every bit of it!!!
I used to be a PC gamer, but now I’m primarily Xbox and Switch. I recently purchased a Logitech G Cloud and I find that it bridges the gap nicely. I can also easily stream games from my PC if I want to as well. Going forward, though, I’m definitely interested in the Switch 2 and the possible Xbox handheld.
Pre ordered my X, for me I got sick of waiting for an Xbox handheld… I can’t wait. I’m a console gamer primarily X, some PS5 and switch. It’s going to be awesome for game pass alone. Steam and Epic are fantastic extras for me to learn about 🙌🏼
I’m buying the Ally X, I got the first edition but I still want one.. we got two week until it drops and it’s actually the best out of any other pc handhelds out here. The steam deck doesn’t play a lot of the games not until it’s steam compatible and that sucks. I’m waiting on a steam deck 2…

The ally x is the best had em all and the cooling, battery life and fps are so much better than everything else, wish it had 2 more extra buttons, oled screen, and halleffect sticks and it would be perfect.
ive flip flopped hard between handhelds, every time i buy one there is another one around the corner that fixes everything wrong with the old one, its a never ending cycle. Went from an LCD deck to an Ally and it was great fixed the display issue of the deck and had more performance but the battery was shocking and the SD card barbecue was a problem... then the Oled deck came along and fixed the problems i had with the Ally so i purchased that, much better battery, reliable hardware and the screen was now epic.... now the Ally X comes along fixing every problem i had with the Ally and ofcourse has a bit more juice under the hood than my deck so... well, ive pre ordered an Ally X now. Problem is we know in 12 months or less an Ally 2 will be announced, the switch 2 will have dropped, the steam deck 2 might even be announced and were going round in circles all over again.
The SD card reader is rated for certain heat... Users would run turbo mode instead of setting a manual locked tpd so they don't cook their reader. Set up the PC properly and there's zero issues
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 well that’s not the issue I had at all honestly, my SD card reader didn’t outright fail it just stopped reading certain SD cards and apparently the real reason for failures has now been determined and it was never heat it was Asus using poor quality parts such as a certain fuse around the SD card reader that failed. Their solution was to actually replace all failed SD card reader boards with updated boards using different fuses. I think if it was actually the heat they would just outright fail due to that heat, but yeh not for me.

I just preordered the ROG Ally X and can’t wait to use it as my main gaming handheld/PC. Eventually i plan on going the eGPU route but that would be later down the line. Between this and my M4 iPad Pro i feel as though i would be able to do everything and anything that i want in any room that i want.
I think ally X may better than steamdeck for those people who just want play 3A game smoothly on handheld, its quite niche these days but I think it will definitly become mainstream in next few years.
you guys you have full on loaded gaming PCs running windows 11 and you complain about 800 quid's for a portable gaming/PC machine, laptops cant mach this money for power you get in Z1ex. I own Steam Deck and Switch since they came out, and had 2 of both versions, but Im buying ally X because its actually way easier to go about windows then steam OS, sorry, steam OS is "nice and easy", but its not fully completed and has issues, at least for gamer like me that plays loads of different (luncher) games, emulators and others, After all, both are PC gaming machines, still, Im taking ally X and Ill be bit sad about sacrificing Oled. Truth is ally x is not really that much expensive when you look at portable PC market beyond steam deck ;)
This will be my first PC handheld. The OG Ally was interesting at first but the battery life put me off from buying one this seem like a significant step up with 80Wh. I hope i can get 3-4 hours with the more demanding titles.
As someone who has a gaming PC, Series X, Switch and a PS5 I don't need any more devices. I need more time to enjoy what I already own. I also don't agree that Steam Deck is a good entry into PC gaming. It's not. Just build (or buy a prebuilt) mid-range PC. It will make PC gaming infinitely more enjoyable than trying to play something at low settings on a tiny screen and through compatibility layers.

I pre-ordered the Rog Ally X. A lot of people are waiting for AMD's strix point, but its probably going to be 3 years before major companies implement it in their new handhelds, the only ones that might do it asap are aya neo, winmax, or the onexplayer but not everyone knows about their customer service.
The ROG ALLY X is going to be great. I have 2 ROG ALLY I have the Zen 1 Extreme and the regular one. I pre ordered the ROG Ally X and I’m excited I will receive it on July 22 2024.
I am considering getting one because I can run all my games without jumping hoops to get them to work, like on the Steam Deck. I am on the fence about the new ROG Ally X or Legion Go.
The reason i put the steam deck down soon as they announced the ally last year is because you have to adjust the game settings to low in every game thats demanding compared to when i got the ally. You really don't have to do any of that. Never turned the sd on ever again. Then it's so weak. It couldn't handle cod if it wanted to

799 for more ram and more battery is not bad , For what it carries its worth the money, i love my z1 extreme one , but i can use some of that extra ram for video editing incase i dont want to game. THE PSU is bigger and you know the bigger the PSU the better the GPU can push .no one ever mentions that part of it
I’m old, 48 I game on PS5 and Anbernic for Retro. I need a Windows Laptop. My work one is on lock down and all I have is a Chromebook. Had WIn PC since Windows 95. I’ve preordered the Ally X and will keep it docked at home but at work it will be secondary computer and gaming for my off periods. I’m a High School teacher and have downtime at work so gaming Yes!!
yeah quite often the price of devices in the UK is more expensive than the US. And often they listed as the same in £ as in $. The Rog Ally X is $799 pre order, in the UK it is £799
Most of the time there is a massive charge for getting computers to Europe. I would say that normally the price here in Euros is the same number as the price in dollars because of a quite high VAT in most European. countries. I bought a Legion Go in February. It costs $699 in the US, €699 in the EU and here in Denmark most of the time it costs DKK5999. I got it at 10% off. But still DKK 5400 is still a LOT more than $699. And 5999 is also more than €699. But then the VAT here in Denmark is also even higher than the rest of the EU. So i don't think a price of £799 is impossible for the Ally X
Im a pretty hardcore pc gamer have a high end 4090 pc everything on it but i still have my lcd SD I love it but ive been wanting more the SD definitely has a roadblock that it can’t play a lot of games id like to play i was going to get a regular ally until i say the x was coming out and now I’ll definitely be getting the ally x when it comes out !
you wont be disappointed, I'd have the X , but i don't think they improved it enough to warrant me switching to the x from the original. don't be expecting 120 hz in too many titles, but its a very playable experience. That being said, definitely for a new buyer, its improved enough to warrant the extra hundred bucks

I want a SD OLED bad. Seems to be such a nice device with a beautiful screen. What is holding me back is the Steam Library vs 'potential' ability to run ALL windows games and access to Gamepass, which I have no experience with since I moved to PS5. Last xbox I had was a 360. Any comments or insight one way or another would be appreciated.
I'm like you. Went from leaving xbox at the 360 and going all in PS. I've also 0 Steam Library games but I love the SDOled... wanted to buy Andy's, but he won't sell it to me as he says "It's not right for you Aj, you need the ROG Ally X, so you can play Game Pass" So for me, I'm getting the Ally X as soon as I can afford it. Andy has already pre-ordered his too. If you can afford it, its the way to go.

Can we stop calling Steam Deck the "Nintendo Switch of the PC world'?? They are completely different in almost everyway they functions. Switch is designed for Switch games, Steam Deck is a PC with a gaming UI. Switch games are developed for that specific hardware, PC games are not. Steam Deck is just another PC handheld, nothing more.
I prefer to pay a little extra to have a device that’s more portable and doesn’t have any limitations to what i can play. Asus just has a bad rep but the device for me is the way to go.

I was hyped about the Ally X, but grabbed a steam deck OLED temporarily, and will wait a few months to see if the Ally X has any defects or if so how ASUS deals with RMA. If all goes well, I’ll probably buy one and pass the OLED to my 10 year old daughter. I can steam family share with her so… 🤷♂️ I already have very powerful PCs that I’ve built myself, so if I need blunt force power for heavier games I’m covered.
I don't know why you added this clickbait! There is NO better console on the market that is at this price. GPD? Ayaneo? Aokzoe? Onexplayer? It's all underpowered, overheats, has small batteries, poor support. Unfortunately, at the moment the Ally X is the best choice despite its high price (although it is one of the cheaper new consoles).
I tried using these handheld pcs to play ganepass and ended up just buying the game on steam the Xbox launcher is still crap and not worth dealing with imo. I’d rather launch big picture mode and play on steam where everything actually works proper.
I already own a Steam Deck, with 1TB SSD. Two partitions, one for SteamOS, one for Windows to be able play anti cheat games, etc. But! And it’s a huge but. It’s not comfotable and the performance still lacks. I’m thinking on pre-ordering the Ally X and sell the Deck. And it would be your fault! 😉
I honestly dont think the Deck and the windows handhelds are even competitors tbh. The Deck is great but its the equivalent to what the Switch is to the PS5 in a way. You cant play a great majority of popular games on it. I am playing The Final Shape on the Ally and even games that does play on the Deck I am playing at close to 60 FPS WITH VRR on the Ally. Granted I do have to constantly be close to a wall outlet but still. Playing Erdtree on 900-1080p medium to high settings 50-60 fps is just a much better experience
Base ally z1e is cheaper than base steam deck here. I think ally x would be cheaper than 512gb deck at launch. I don't need to be spoon fed either, i studied engineering, of course i would love to tinker with everything and make sure it's at optimal state. I just can't make my mind about which one to get, the original ally or x. I'm not willing to pay that much for a "Console like experience" and then pay for overpriced games as well.
yeah in your situation, maybe the base Z1e makes more sense. The X does give you somethings you wouldn't be able to tinker away, like the double battery capacity and better cooling. Giving purchase suggesstions on an indivudal level is really difficult, but I'd say it really depends on what you're comfortable spending and investing into it. Ultimatley both machines will serve you well.
Yeah I have the steam deck Oled had the og ally but after using the steam deck Oled I find myself missing out on a a lot of games because of gamepass and games that I have in other launchers that just don’t really work on thenSD Oled. And I’m not a huge fan of the 16:10 aspect ratio on the Oled because more often than not games don’t support it, not even Dave the dive or Haydes and quite a few others. It’s a great device and ease of use but my ally was easy as well. Literally just hook up to a monitor with kbm uninstall all the windows bloat ware and install your launchers and never have to use windows again because armory crate is quite good and makes it more console like. But we shall see. And I don’t use the track pads at all.
Really? even after hearing all of the poor customer support stories? I heard that one store even stopped testing returns and just refunded immediately because there were so many returns.
Why do people act like you don't have to tinker with the Steam Deck? He said "he wants to push a button and play the game" but if you don't get proton for the Deck a lot of games may not work. I've had one for over a year. You do have to tinker. Unless all you play is Verified games. And sometimes even Verified games need a little Tinkering.
I think it’s more so less system tinkering. You’re usually updating through one section of the interface. I have only had the SD since the OLED. And I haven’t played tons of games(about 40) . Most of them I just hop straight into it. However I haven’t played anything that’s not “playable” or “verified”. So haven’t needed to play around with the proton stuff much. I have gotten some emulation and done more on it that makes it way more confusing for me since I’m used to windows… but I think the big thing is windows in general needs more “maintenance tinkering” as opposed to per game tinkering. I’m gonna definitely grab the X though. The slight hints of performance in COD has sold me 😂 Both amazing systems, but I really want to play COD since I’ve sold all my systems otherwise

It's cheaper. That's it. Some might say the touchpads are great. Others justify their own purtchse by saying OLED makes THE difference. Spoiler alert, it does not. But the Ally X outperforms the Steam Decks in every way. Also Asus' customer support is 100% shit.
The real issue with all the new handhelds is than none seem to be as good as the Switch as far as battery life. I could handle a good 4 hour battery but right now my Ally at 720p and low settings gets about 45 minutes. At that point if I have the same game running on the Switch it has about 80 percent battery remaining. Double the Rog Ally battery life and its still not enough. I would guess the Ally X will have 1 hour 30 minutes tops. Less than half what I would want if I ever buy another handheld. My Switch oled always outlast my game play and I just charge it at night. Imagine a phone running down every 45 minutes. Thats the Rog Ally.
@@fpvpilot7713 I get you but that's also the Switch's problem really, the battery is so good because it's so underpowered and underclocked. It'll be a looong time until APUs are efficient enough to be powerful and have a low output
Only reason I'm thinking about upgrading from my LCD steamdeck to ally x is gamepass - Xbox is about to put out a ton of day 1 bangers (fable, Indiana Jones, avowed, gears, perfect dark, etc etc etc) on gamepass and I'd like to be able to play them handheld. Question is whether the X can even handle those games at decent settings or if I'm better off waiting until ally 2...
Ally and Ally X are comparable in performance, so you can check any games performance that you are interested in and decide whether it's worth it or not.
@@izcondoralexander yeah but those games I mentioned are all unreleased so it's unclear at this point how well they'll perform on the Z1 extreme. Might be better off waiting for an ally 2 with a better APU than making a somewhat lateral move from LCD deck to ally x, if that makes sense.

if i didn't already own the z1 extreme model, I'd be buying an x. I've had it since launch, and it does everything i want it to do quite well. The steam deck is entry level for pc? don't make me laugh!

Who wants to bet that the switch 2 is massively underwhelming. People need to seriously curb their expectations its gonna be good and fun like every Nintendont console but it will also be under powered overpriced with an all round bad build quality. This is why Nintendo are so karen about emulation because their consoles are always 8 years out of date hardware wise making their current generations easy to emulate. And most pcs and even android devices can run their software as wellnif not better than their original hw
Switch 2 is basically just going to be the bare minimum for Xbox series s ports to work on it. It's definitely better then what they launched with the og switch but the switch 2 it's definitely not a PS5.
Love the X, but it doesnt have Oled, that is the game changer for me, I'd rather have 60 hz forever and an Oled screen better than a 500 ips like the one this one has :/

honestly, Sony made me turn my interest into PC handheld and device where can run almost all games, they just made me so disappointed these days

As someone who recently preordered the Ally X, I must say that you guys are absolutely smashing it with content for the sku and I’m here for every bit of it!!!
I used to be a PC gamer, but now I’m primarily Xbox and Switch. I recently purchased a Logitech G Cloud and I find that it bridges the gap nicely. I can also easily stream games from my PC if I want to as well.
Going forward, though, I’m definitely interested in the Switch 2 and the possible Xbox handheld.
Steam deck 2 will also be a strong competitor but I'm hoping valve can figure something out about easy anti cheat.

I’m buying the Ally X, I got the first edition but I still want one.. we got two week until it drops and it’s actually the best out of any other pc handhelds out here. The steam deck doesn’t play a lot of the games not until it’s steam compatible and that sucks. I’m waiting on a steam deck 2…
playing games outside of steam is a bit more involved but if you buy a steam deck, it really pays to learn some basic linux usage stuff.

The ally x is the best had em all and the cooling, battery life and fps are so much better than everything else, wish it had 2 more extra buttons, oled screen, and halleffect sticks and it would be perfect.
ive flip flopped hard between handhelds, every time i buy one there is another one around the corner that fixes everything wrong with the old one, its a never ending cycle. Went from an LCD deck to an Ally and it was great fixed the display issue of the deck and had more performance but the battery was shocking and the SD card barbecue was a problem... then the Oled deck came along and fixed the problems i had with the Ally so i purchased that, much better battery, reliable hardware and the screen was now epic.... now the Ally X comes along fixing every problem i had with the Ally and ofcourse has a bit more juice under the hood than my deck so... well, ive pre ordered an Ally X now. Problem is we know in 12 months or less an Ally 2 will be announced, the switch 2 will have dropped, the steam deck 2 might even be announced and were going round in circles all over again.
The SD card reader is rated for certain heat... Users would run turbo mode instead of setting a manual locked tpd so they don't cook their reader. Set up the PC properly and there's zero issues
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 well that’s not the issue I had at all honestly, my SD card reader didn’t outright fail it just stopped reading certain SD cards and apparently the real reason for failures has now been determined and it was never heat it was Asus using poor quality parts such as a certain fuse around the SD card reader that failed. Their solution was to actually replace all failed SD card reader boards with updated boards using different fuses.
I think if it was actually the heat they would just outright fail due to that heat, but yeh not for me.
i have high end pc gaming, and a gaming laptop. pre ordered ally x just 2 weeks ago, and then sold my laptop.
was about to grab SD OLED, but i think windows is more fit for my needs.

I'm a PC gamer and I spend a lot of time at my girlfriend's house. I play all kinds of titles from Cyberpunk to Valorant or Binding of Isaac. I'm debating on the Ally X or Steam Deck OLED. Is the Ally X for me?

I just preordered the ROG Ally X and can’t wait to use it as my main gaming handheld/PC. Eventually i plan on going the eGPU route but that would be later down the line. Between this and my M4 iPad Pro i feel as though i would be able to do everything and anything that i want in any room that i want.

I think ally X may better than steamdeck for those people who just want play 3A game smoothly on handheld, its quite niche these days but I think it will definitly become mainstream in next few years.

you guys you have full on loaded gaming PCs running windows 11 and you complain about 800 quid's for a portable gaming/PC machine, laptops cant mach this money for power you get in Z1ex.
I own Steam Deck and Switch since they came out, and had 2 of both versions, but Im buying ally X because its actually way easier to go about windows then steam OS, sorry, steam OS is "nice and easy", but its not fully completed and has issues, at least for gamer like me that plays loads of different (luncher) games, emulators and others,
After all, both are PC gaming machines, still, Im taking ally X and Ill be bit sad about sacrificing Oled. Truth is ally x is not really that much expensive when you look at portable PC market beyond steam deck ;)
This will be my first PC handheld. The OG Ally was interesting at first but the battery life put me off from buying one this seem like a significant step up with 80Wh. I hope i can get 3-4 hours with the more demanding titles.

As someone who has a gaming PC, Series X, Switch and a PS5 I don't need any more devices. I need more time to enjoy what I already own. I also don't agree that Steam Deck is a good entry into PC gaming. It's not. Just build (or buy a prebuilt) mid-range PC. It will make PC gaming infinitely more enjoyable than trying to play something at low settings on a tiny screen and through compatibility layers.

I pre-ordered the Rog Ally X. A lot of people are waiting for AMD's strix point, but its probably going to be 3 years before major companies implement it in their new handhelds, the only ones that might do it asap are aya neo, winmax, or the onexplayer but not everyone knows about their customer service.

I am considering getting one because I can run all my games without jumping hoops to get them to work, like on the Steam Deck. I am on the fence about the new ROG Ally X or Legion Go.
The reason i put the steam deck down soon as they announced the ally last year is because you have to adjust the game settings to low in every game thats demanding compared to when i got the ally. You really don't have to do any of that. Never turned the sd on ever again. Then it's so weak. It couldn't handle cod if it wanted to

We're totally honest, we love the Steam Deck for what it's good at but the ALLY X excels where the Steam Deck falls short.
Yeah, its a product for hardcore gamers, hardcore in the sense of people who doesnt care to spend high cash on his gaming hardware, people who doesnt bat and eye while buying a custom made water cooled RTX 4090, at launch.

I’m old, 48 I game on PS5 and Anbernic for Retro. I need a Windows Laptop. My work one is on lock down and all I have is a Chromebook. Had WIn PC since Windows 95. I’ve preordered the Ally X and will keep it docked at home but at work it will be secondary computer and gaming for my off periods. I’m a High School teacher and have downtime at work so gaming Yes!!

yeah quite often the price of devices in the UK is more expensive than the US. And often they listed as the same in £ as in $. The Rog Ally X is $799 pre order, in the UK it is £799
Most of the time there is a massive charge for getting computers to Europe. I would say that normally the price here in Euros is the same number as the price in dollars because of a quite high VAT in most European. countries. I bought a Legion Go in February. It costs $699 in the US, €699 in the EU and here in Denmark most of the time it costs DKK5999. I got it at 10% off. But still DKK 5400 is still a LOT more than $699. And 5999 is also more than €699. But then the VAT here in Denmark is also even higher than the rest of the EU. So i don't think a price of £799 is impossible for the Ally X

Im a pretty hardcore pc gamer have a high end 4090 pc everything on it but i still have my lcd SD I love it but ive been wanting more the SD definitely has a roadblock that it can’t play a lot of games id like to play i was going to get a regular ally until i say the x was coming out and now I’ll definitely be getting the ally x when it comes out !
you wont be disappointed, I'd have the X , but i don't think they improved it enough to warrant me switching to the x from the original. don't be expecting 120 hz in too many titles, but its a very playable experience. That being said, definitely for a new buyer, its improved enough to warrant the extra hundred bucks

I want a SD OLED bad. Seems to be such a nice device with a beautiful screen. What is holding me back is the Steam Library vs 'potential' ability to run ALL windows games and access to Gamepass, which I have no experience with since I moved to PS5. Last xbox I had was a 360. Any comments or insight one way or another would be appreciated.
I'm like you. Went from leaving xbox at the 360 and going all in PS. I've also 0 Steam Library games but I love the SDOled... wanted to buy Andy's, but he won't sell it to me as he says "It's not right for you Aj, you need the ROG Ally X, so you can play Game Pass" So for me, I'm getting the Ally X as soon as I can afford it. Andy has already pre-ordered his too. If you can afford it, its the way to go.

Whereas the SD seems to be a well built device with a solid reputation. So I'm thinking maybe wait, not buy the first unit next week? I just want something new and fun to play with. Can we stop calling Steam Deck the "Nintendo Switch of the PC world'?? They are completely different in almost everyway they functions. Switch is designed for Switch games, Steam Deck is a PC with a gaming UI. Switch games are developed for that specific hardware, PC games are not. Steam Deck is just another PC handheld, nothing more.
I prefer to pay a little extra to have a device that’s more portable and doesn’t have any limitations to what i can play. Asus just has a bad rep but the device for me is the way to go.

I was hyped about the Ally X, but grabbed a steam deck OLED temporarily, and will wait a few months to see if the Ally X has any defects or if so how ASUS deals with RMA. If all goes well, I’ll probably buy one and pass the OLED to my 10 year old daughter. I can steam family share with her so… 🤷♂️ I already have very powerful PCs that I’ve built myself, so if I need blunt force power for heavier games I’m covered.

I don't know why you added this clickbait! There is NO better console on the market that is at this price. GPD? Ayaneo? Aokzoe? Onexplayer? It's all underpowered, overheats, has small batteries, poor support. Unfortunately, at the moment the Ally X is the best choice despite its high price (although it is one of the cheaper new consoles).
I am an Xbox guy so I think the ROG ally x would make more sense for me. If it wasn’t for that I would definitely get a steam deck.

I tried using these handheld pcs to play ganepass and ended up just buying the game on steam the Xbox launcher is still crap and not worth dealing with imo. I’d rather launch big picture mode and play on steam where everything actually works proper.
I already own a Steam Deck, with 1TB SSD. Two partitions, one for SteamOS, one for Windows to be able play anti cheat games, etc. But! And it’s a huge but. It’s not comfotable and the performance still lacks. I’m thinking on pre-ordering the Ally X and sell the Deck. And it would be your fault! 😉
The steam deck is for casual and indie gamers and the X is going to be for the hardcore gamer. It’s not for everyone.

I honestly dont think the Deck and the windows handhelds are even competitors tbh. The Deck is great but its the equivalent to what the Switch is to the PS5 in a way.
You cant play a great majority of popular games on it. I am playing The Final Shape on the Ally and even games that does play on the Deck I am playing at close to 60 FPS WITH VRR on the Ally.
Granted I do have to constantly be close to a wall outlet but still. Playing Erdtree on 900-1080p medium to high settings 50-60 fps is just a much better experience

I don't need to be spoon fed either, i studied engineering, of course i would love to tinker with everything and make sure it's at optimal state. I just can't make my mind about which one to get, the original ally or x.

yeah in your situation, maybe the base Z1e makes more sense. The X does give you somethings you wouldn't be able to tinker away, like the double battery capacity and better cooling. Giving purchase suggesstions on an indivudal level is really difficult, but I'd say it really depends on what you're comfortable spending and investing into it. Ultimatley both machines will serve you well.

Yeah I have the steam deck Oled had the og ally but after using the steam deck Oled I find myself missing out on a a lot of games because of gamepass and games that I have in other launchers that just don’t really work on thenSD Oled. And I’m not a huge fan of the 16:10 aspect ratio on the Oled because more often than not games don’t support it, not even Dave the dive or Haydes and quite a few others. It’s a great device and ease of use but my ally was easy as well. Literally just hook up to a monitor with kbm uninstall all the windows bloat ware and install your launchers and never have to use windows again because armory crate is quite good and makes it more console like. But we shall see. And I don’t use the track pads at all.

Why do people act like you don't have to tinker with the Steam Deck? He said "he wants to push a button and play the game" but if you don't get proton for the Deck a lot of games may not work. I've had one for over a year. You do have to tinker. Unless all you play is Verified games. And sometimes even Verified games need a little Tinkering.

I think it’s more so less system tinkering. You’re usually updating through one section of the interface. I have only had the SD since the OLED. And I haven’t played tons of games(about 40) . Most of them I just hop straight into it.
However I haven’t played anything that’s not “playable” or “verified”. So haven’t needed to play around with the proton stuff much.
I have gotten some emulation and done more on it that makes it way more confusing for me since I’m used to windows… but I think the big thing is windows in general needs more “maintenance tinkering” as opposed to per game tinkering. I’m gonna definitely grab the X though. The slight hints of performance in COD has sold me 😂

It's cheaper. That's it. Some might say the touchpads are great. Others justify their own purtchse by saying OLED makes THE difference. Spoiler alert, it does not. But the Ally X outperforms the Steam Decks in every way. Also Asus' customer support is 100% shit.
The real issue with all the new handhelds is than none seem to be as good as the Switch as far as battery life. I could handle a good 4 hour battery but right now my Ally at 720p and low settings gets about 45 minutes. At that point if I have the same game running on the Switch it has about 80 percent battery remaining. Double the Rog Ally battery life and its still not enough. I would guess the Ally X will have 1 hour 30 minutes tops. Less than half what I would want if I ever buy another handheld. My Switch oled always outlast my game play and I just charge it at night. Imagine a phone running down every 45 minutes. Thats the Rog Ally.

True, it's going to be some time before we can get sub-10w performance comparable with Rog Ally's 30w performance.
Only reason I'm thinking about upgrading from my LCD steamdeck to ally x is gamepass - Xbox is about to put out a ton of day 1 bangers (fable, Indiana Jones, avowed, gears, perfect dark, etc etc etc) on gamepass and I'd like to be able to play them handheld.
Question is whether the X can even handle those games at decent settings or if I'm better off waiting until ally 2...
Ally and Ally X are comparable in performance, so you can check any games performance that you are interested in and decide whether it's worth it or not.
@@izcondoralexander yeah but those games I mentioned are all unreleased so it's unclear at this point how well they'll perform on the Z1 extreme. Might be better off waiting for an ally 2 with a better APU than making a somewhat lateral move from LCD deck to ally x, if that makes sense.

Who wants to bet that the switch 2 is massively underwhelming. People need to seriously curb their expectations its gonna be good and fun like every Nintendont console but it will also be under powered overpriced with an all round bad build quality. This is why Nintendo are so karen about emulation because their consoles are always 8 years out of date hardware wise making their current generations easy to emulate. And most pcs and even android devices can run their software as wellnif not better than their original hw
Switch 2 is basically just going to be the bare minimum for Xbox series s ports to work on it. It's definitely better then what they launched with the og switch but the switch 2 it's definitely not a PS5.
Love the X, but it doesnt have Oled, that is the game changer for me, I'd rather have 60 hz forever and an Oled screen better than a 500 ips like the one this one has :/
