I read that it is painted rust brown on the inside so that when the exterior green paint gets scratched the underlying color shows as if it was primered. Also, the tires are licensed Interco SS-M16 tires (they actually have tiny bullet cartridges molded in between the side lugs). My thinking is that it would look a LOT better with the interior painted matte black, and the driver also detailed with some paint - and as a final touch I would try to find some way to make the front turn signals and rear taillights look more realistic - the stickers don't cut it. Otherwise, it's a pretty sweet truck, nice Jeepster-esque styling! (props for getting your first manufacturer tie-in, as well, John!)
I recently viewed another video of the original Gen 8 motor being replaced with a Holmes motor & man I’m telling you it was such a good fix for the brake issue and also other benefits as well. Didn’t even have to change the esc. Nice.
I recently bought one. I bought mine because it looks exactly like a Jeepster/Comando. RedKat changed the grill from 7 slot to 5 slot I’m guessing so they didn’t have to pay licensing fees. I’m really impressed with mine. I personally think the tires tread is a little hard for where crawling at. But for general trail running and general crawling they work fine. There are videos on how to mod the tires. Over very happy with the rig. I really like the 550 motor.
Looks like a really good setup, I'm interested to hear your opinion on the steering, RC review said it was pretty poor and would be difficult to improve.
Unfortunately there is No improving it, his opinion or not, you either live with 10 foot steering radious or get stuck putting another $200 Hundred plus in Ar60 axles & the time to try & make them fit!! Huge let down on a truck that looks pretty sweet, blows my mind how these companies like Redcat can even possibly think anybody wants that!! I mean who works at these places 👍🏼
@@ConditionZero76 well I guess the chassis / axle's were developed for a basher / bouncer and it's a consequence of that, they are beefy all round so movement is limited due to the thickness. Maybe some high clearance knuckles/hubs or something like that could be made.

It seems extremely capable!!! Definitely probably going to join the fleet. Maga truck built with gen 7cas, & windingo axels & though so this MarksMen would be no exception.
I've burned a couple of cheap chinese motors on my gmade buffalo this summer. After switching to crawlmaster 550 13t it stays almost ice cold no matter how I drive it. Before I could barely use second gear on my gmade before overheating motor.
I was a bit surprised to see you having your motor in a vehicle with a 1080 esc but I guess that goes to prove that you actually mean what you've said about it earlier. I really like Redcat and would love to have this but I have my sight set on a Vanquish for my coming 40th birthday so guess I just have to enjoy seeing them here and there :)
Cool looking truck. This thing is AU$809 here in Australia about AU$200 less than Axial’s latest bronco offering. So yeah compared to that not bad value. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Awesome that you collaborated with RCR! Do you know if the axles come with the steel tube inserts? I bought Wendigo axles months ago, to build a tube chassis bouncer with; haven't finished it yet.
@RC CRAWL I actually took the rear aluminum option truss, mounted it on the front Redcat axle, then you can use a universal servo mount and have offset servo on axle and 4 link. Need to finish my cage and run the beast.
Played with one at local hobby store. How do you fix the turning radius? It’s really, really bad. Other than that and the cowboy inside I dig it. Had actually gone to the shop with intent to purchase but didn’t.
I seen a video on rc reviews channel about this rig and I really like it the only fault I seen in it was the turning radius is completely awful a trx4 with about the same wheel base turned in like half the radius of the redcat but I’m sure there’s ways to modify it for better steering. But I absolutely love the fact it comes with a HH motor and 1080 esc.
Turning radius is the one area it's not fantastic on. Long wheel base and lack of Ackerman hurts it. Someone could come out with an Ackerman knuckle set and improve it.
@@HolmesHobbies yeah it looked like it needs something done. If nothing else maybe you could shave a little here or there with a dremel and get a little better steering radius

People talk down to on RedCat. But I think they’re only being brand snobs. The phanboiz are blinded by their unwillingness to look beyond their preferred brand. Look at what Red Cat has done in the crawler/scaler world in a short time. They have stepped up their quality, they are providing much better RTR electronics with brand name components! Holmes Hobbies, Reefs, Hobbywing Axe, etc… even their standard HexFly 25KG servo is better that most Traxxas, Axial, etc… RTR offerings. I applause RedCat working with crawler pioneers like you Johnrob. It’s shows an attention to the market that many of the mega corp crawler companies ignore. 👍🏼
I was very excited when I first saw the truck and esc motor combo it comes with. Decided to have one but once I found out the steering radius issue and that it’s not fixable with the stock setup it totally put me off. Not sure what they were thinking designing this. If redcat come up with a solution for this problem I would definitely buy a one. I love HH motors.
I went on the website to find specs on the tires size, and nothing. I understand they are 2.2 but what size in mm? I did place my order anyways and I would want to go faster, so would that be a Trailmaster 27T and 13 t?
Just sucks that the marksman makes a mockery of those electronics because the chassis itself is so terrible. It’s got a huge huge turning radius. Might be able to save the truck with some different axels that have actual steering

You can also see his honest review and run of the wendigo. It was certainly better than the last axial ryft release. 5 years ago I wouldn’t of touched a redcat but today is a different story.
