Not only is Richard an Oriental Orthodox Christian, but he’s also an Oriental Orthodox Priest. He’s one of the most humble men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I am honored to be able to call him a friend. I’m blessed to live a mere 16 miles from his shop.
He was a steppingstone for me on my way towards Orthodoxy, and eventually the Catholic Church. If you’re ever in the area, pay his shop a visit. You might just learn something.

      @@josephsarkis4443 Sure thing.
His parish is St. Elias out of Kodak, TN, and it belongs to the jurisdiction of the Antiochian Catholic Church in America (ACCA). Their canonical status is disputed, but the majority of them that do have valid holy order have garnered them through ether the Old Catholic bishopric or via one of the various monophysite Communions. According to the ACCA, their religious praxis and liturgy are predicated on the Syriac Orthodox and Indian Orthodox expressions of faith - this sort of makes the ACCA a bit unique amongst the Independent Catholic groups.
It's quite the rabbit-hole to go down, and I would advise one seeking a valid communion to simply become Catholic (or at least canonically Orthodox). However, it's good to get to know other communions in order to understand how they think and why. The ACCA is quite the anomaly to say the least.

What a wonderful conversation. “The mind refuses idleness. If it is not distracted by other things it will consider itself. At some point we have to set aside entertainments, even the listening of good music, the reading of good literature, and even of holy books. All of that has to be set aside, and that moment of stillness experienced, so that the mind can reflect on itself.”

I met Richard by chance, one fine day in 2022. I was on vacation and wandered into the Gatlinburlier store, thinking it was a cigar store. Well, I was wrong. I had a long and very fun conversation with Richard and because of him I began smoking a pipe as well. I would love to listen to you gentlemen for 2 hours or more and will definitely have plenty to discuss next time I see Richard.

Oh goodness! Lectio Divina is truly something! Not every time I read scripture but fairly regularly I read and feel like the Holy Spirit tells me to read slowly. When I do, a word or phrase jumps out at me, or I sense a deeper significance to what I'm reading that I have not noticed before. Then I stop and ponder, let my mind wander over it. And invariably epiphanies begin occurring to me and I come away with a deeper understanding or appreciation of what I'm reading.

I truly felt I've just got a glimps of his soul. It would be a real treat to see another video of you two together. In the meantime, I'll be going over to his channel to see what wisdom is on offer. I’ve visited the Gatlinburlier many times and conversed with Mr. Richard. Used to be an annual family tradition to visit Gatlinburg TN in the winter months, before COVID. COVID has thrown a wrench in that tradition, taking a very important, loved, and missed family member from us as well as a matriarch who used to join us is getting on up there in age now and is not as able, we haven’t made it back since. Look forward to getting back to the Gatlinburlier as soon as I can get the family together and go again.

It is good to hear and see the numerous intellectual and good spirited people that you are likely to come across in our travels on the journey with pipe-smoking.
