Your advice on carrying a battery pack is great, but cold does not drain batteries, cold simply slows or stops the chemical reaction inside the battery so no electricity reaches the equipment or the battery pack. The solution is to warm up all your batteries and the charge will return to where it was before it got too cold (just like keeping them warm in your sleeping bag all night). I don't mean to be "that guy," but it's really important that people do not jump inside s warm hut and immediately plug their cold "drained" phone battery or battery pack because they could quickly overcharge and be ruined.

I totally understand that many people aren’t comfortable sharing that kind of info, but it is SO helpful! Thank you so so much for sharing that. As always, you made this video super informative, and I always love a lighter pack list! Thanks again. So glad you had this amazing experience!
Thanks Candace! Glad you enjoyed this video. I kept getting the same questions over and over again so I figured a lot of people might find a video like this helpful. We didn't on or over snow on this trek so regular sunglasses were fine. I wore my regular sunglasses that I always wear for my hikes and backpacking trips and they were just fine.

Excellent Video! Ankle wrap is now in my first aid kit as I sprained my ankle walking back from Pheriche, leukotape got me to Tengboche. Did you have any concerns about altitude? It appears you didn't have acclimatization days but you indicated that you took a full dose of diamox twice per day vs the half dose that most use.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. Having an ankle brace in my first aid kit has saved me so many times, enough for me to keep the brace in my kit at all times. I didn't have any issues with the altitude. Our trek up there was aggressive without having any additional days to acclimate. This is why I started taking the Diamox the day before we started trekking - 1 in the morning and 1 at night, which I explained during the video. Some in my group even opted to take two pills in the morning and 2 at night, but I wanted to start slow and could always up the dose if I needed to. Turns out I didn't need to for this trip.
I only used my bigger pack to keep all my gear in when flying to and from Nepal. Once we started our trek, our trekking company provided duffle bags for us to keep the gear we wanted to use along the trek in.
Nope, we didn't have any acclimation days during our EBC trek. We knew coming into this that this trip would be quick. We all managed to stay fine, but I'd like to go back and spend more time in the area because its so beautiful.
Excellent series. How did you select Life Himalaya Trekking, Ltd as a guiding company? They look like a good trekking company. I would be trekking by myself, hoping to meet other similar adventurers.
You can do this trip way cheaper with just a guide. No porter but self-carry your own backpack keeping it under 9kg. Go as lightweight as possible to save cost.
There are LOTS of different ways you can do this trek. My way isn't the only way. I'm just sharing how I did my trek since I get so many questions about this trip.
How much you spend each day during the trek will really depend on you and the type of trip you want to have. I had a certain budget I set for myself that I could spend on extra food, drinks, souvenirs and sightseeing while in Kathmandu and along the trek. Do keep in mind, the higher you get up the trek, the more expensive things will be so make sure you plan for that. Overall, I think this trip was really inexpensive, even with all of the extra luxuries I added to my trip.
That's because once we left Kathmandu, we all went dark for our entire trip. I knew we'd only be doing our trek for 6-7 days and didn't want to waste any of my time on my phone, looking at stuff online while we were trekking. There are options to purchase WiFi in the teahouses as you make your way up the trek. The higher you get up the trail, the more expensive these options get. So make sure you keep that in mind. There are also options to purchase "power" in the teahouses as well if you have to charge any electronics. For this trip, I brought a power bank and extra batteries and didn't need to charge anything beyond using my power bank until we were back in Kathmandu.
@@TheHungryHiker LOL, I wasn't thinking of checking my twitter account. But I did think my wife might like a text every now and then to let her know I was alive.
@@paultruzzi911 That's EXACTLY why I brought my Garmin inReach. Instead of texting friends and family from my phone and worrying if I'd have service or not, I could send them a message from my Garmin AND they could follow us along our trek on the MapShare I have set up with my Garmin.
Not sure about the rules and regulations of tent camping along this trek. My guess is that people don't because I didn't see anyone tent camping along our way while we were there. There are a number of teahouses along the trek and there are a few trekkers who do this trek and handle their own accommodations. That can certainly add an element of stress to a trip like this if you're having to figure out accommodations on your own. This is a HUGE benefit to using a trekking service and doing this trek with a guide. Not only are you supporting the local economy (tourism is one of Nepal's biggest industries), but your guide and trekking company will figure out all of your accommodations for you and give you valuable information about the area that you're trekking through.
Yes, there are easier, more direct routes from Seattle, but I was meeting up with my friends in Chicago, which is why I flew to Chicago. Then we all flew together on the same flight(s).

I haven't done the three passes trek in Nepal, but if there were snow forecasted and out on trail, I'd probably use GoreTex hiking boots as opposed to trail runners. I tend to only use trail runners when the trail is dry (and warmer).
You were lucky because in the USA, you are known to lose bags...learn from experience, been traveling for the last 25 years all over the world 5 to 6 times a year. You should have a little pack for important gear on you like international electric adapter to charge your equipment, extra underwear, toothpaste pills (not tube), utensils (your own), you could also bring dry shampoo for you hair, and medications it fits in a small bag you can carry on you. You should also wear compression socks you legs and feet would not be swollen at night after a day of hiking. You look like you enjoyed your trip, good for you.
I would have no idea what the % is in general, but I can say that 100% of our crew was able to handle the altitude on our way up to EBC. This is even without having acclimation days built into our itinerary.
The trek lasts several days. If I take only 3-4 shirts, they will eventually get sweaty and might start to smell. I don't think there's an opportunity to do laundry there. Does that mean I'll have to wear smelly clothes the whole time?
For any of my trips, whether I'm trekking in Nepal for a week or backpacking along the Pacific Crest Trail for multiple weeks, I only pack two outfits for each trip: one outfit to hike in and one outfit to sleep in. Some teahouses might offer laundry services, but the higher in elevation you go, the less accommodations that will be available. You're going to get sweaty and dirty no matter what. Might as well save the weight and pack less clothes. I would pack extra socks and underwear though. After the trek, we had a chance to do our laundry in Kathmandu through the hotel we were staying at.
I didn't have any issues with ay of the food I ate locally while in Nepal thankfully. Before going on my trip, I did start taking a daily, shelf-stable probiotic at home and while I was I Nepal, I made sure to always drink bottled water. My body handled all of the delicious local cuisine perfectly. The food was oe of my favorite parts about Nepal. :)
A quick Google search told me that there's actually a difference between a baseball hat and a trucker hat. Check it out: A trucker hat will have a foam upper, with plastic mesh. A baseball cap, however, will usually be wool, or cotton. Additionally, a baseball cap will not have a breathable plastic mesh back (usually), and they will also not have a huge, billboard-like design on the front - like trucker hats do

That is so cool.
This was quite the cool trip. :)
I also like shorts WAY more than pants but sunburn like crazy. It's a pain to carry too much sunscreen
Wait… you flew from Seattle to Chicago and then to Doha? I think it’d have been easier from Seattle to Seoul or Singapore.
Yes, there are easier, more direct routes from Seattle, but I was meeting up with my friends in Chicago, which is why I flew to Chicago. Then we all flew together on the same flight(s).
Super like your video
Awesome!
Ok OR has the sun hoodie. Check. 👍
I love my OR Echo Sun Hoodie. Great piece of gear!
I don’t understand what fleece layer you wore?
Beautiful video
Thank you
THANKYOU SO MUCH!!

I will follow step by step 🚶♂️ 💯
Are you planning a trek to Everest Base Camp anytime soon?
Yes next year
What co.runs the base camp treking group
HI there! I mentioned this both in the video as well in the video description below. The trekking company our group used for our EBC trek was Life Himalaya Trekking: lifehimalayatrekking.com

@@TheHungryHiker Thanks a lot! 😊
How do you feel about altras as a shoe for three passes trek?
I haven't done the three passes trek in Nepal, but if there were snow forecasted and out on trail, I'd probably use GoreTex hiking boots as opposed to trail runners. I tend to only use trail runners when the trail is dry (and warmer).
you did lukla to namche in a day? wow!
Yup! It was a big day!
What insurance company did you use for the trek?
I used World Nomads, which I'm pretty sure I mentioned somewhere in this video.
Wait so you went from Lukla to Namche bazar in a day?!?!
We sure did. It was a BIG day!
i would overpack on underwears hahaha. I want to change undies every single day. i love this video! very detailed. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Good suggestions!
What % of hikers end up not being able to handle the altitude on the way up to EBC?
Where there any risks from eating local food that your body was not accustomed to? What is often referred to as “Spanish Tummy”?
I didn't have any issues with ay of the food I ate locally while in Nepal thankfully. Before going on my trip, I did start taking a daily, shelf-stable probiotic at home and while I was I Nepal, I made sure to always drink bottled water. My body handled all of the delicious local cuisine perfectly. The food was oe of my favorite parts about Nepal. :)
❤
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Damn, $5500 for all that? That's a heck of a good deal!
That's what I thought. I was pretty happy with the overall costs for this trip. Totally worth every penny.
What month did you go ?
September
Can anybody tell me exactly when a baseball. Cap became a truckers hat
A quick Google search told me that there's actually a difference between a baseball hat and a trucker hat. Check it out: A trucker hat will have a foam upper, with plastic mesh. A baseball cap, however, will usually be wool, or cotton. Additionally, a baseball cap will not have a breathable plastic mesh back (usually), and they will also not have a huge, billboard-like design on the front - like trucker hats do
No acclimatization day?
No, we didn't have an acclimatization day built into our trek. This was a pretty fast and aggressive itinerary.
@@TheHungryHiker I see. Sounds like you had limited time. I am surprised that you said your insurance was less than $100, everything I have checked is between 200 a $500. Was it basic for travel or did it included high altitude rescue ? Planning to go in 2025.
did you took any insurance?
Yup! I had travel insurance for this trip and mentioned it in my total expenses when I talked about how much my trip cost.
@@TheHungryHiker yes mam thank you for information, could you also help with insurance company? and did they cover helicopter rescue?
@@RichaChaurasia295 I used Travel Nomads for travel insurance and even the basic plan I got covered helicopter evacuation, if needed. Hope that helps!
@@TheHungryHiker is it world nomad? I will also look for that bz plan i am
Selecting it is not showing heli rescue
@@RichaChaurasia295 Here is the link to World Nomads, where I got my travel insurance from: www.worldnomads.com Keep in mind, what is covered in your policy will depend on where you're traveling to. Not all policies will be the same. Your best bet is to contact them directly with specific questions on what they cover. Good luck!

Thanks for watching!
Gosh, the Americans are spoiling the the rest of the world by tipping even to the pilot.
I don't think tipping a helicopter is a bad thing at all.
Also for those looking at Diamox, PLEASE talk to your physician about it. It has tons of interactions with even common over the counter drugs like tylenol/acetaminophen
