WELSH language spoken in Patagonia, Argentina but WHY?
'Y Wladfa' means 'the Welsh Colony' and it was NOT what I expected....
In October 2023 I had the pleasure of visiting Y Gaiman and Trelew in Patagonia. As a Welsh speaker (and proud Welshman) this was a once in a lifetime experience for me. Not only was it incredible to hear my native language over 7500 miles away from Wales but I was also blown away by how much of a warm welcome I had with the lovely people of 'Y Wladfa'. This area of Argentina is often taught in Welsh schools and growing up learning about it made future 'travel Steff' even more intrigued to visit. It was an amazing and somewhat emotional visit and I appreciate anyone who has watched this video, this was a special one. I just summited Rinjani two days ago. Let me emphasise that Rinjani is NOT for beginners. You need to have an above average fitness level and a strong determination to summit. For reference, i do 3 strength training exercises and run 50km per week in preparation and yet i still struggle. It is also very dangerous when you are tired because there are no fences around to prevent you from falling sideways if you slip, fyi.

Its NOT for beginners. I run half marathons and have a decent fitness, and this hike was HARD, like very hard. The first day is 1500m elevation gain in like 4 km's. The paths uphill are just mud/sand paths, so not great. The sleeping (for me) was awful with a lot of noise, and not that great of camping material. The morning to the top was even more difficult, in combination with the ash/sand/whatever you would go back 1 step for every two forward. It was a great hike nonetheless but its REALLY hard. Our guide also said only 20% make it to the top.

The trek lasts several days. If I take only 3-4 shirts, they will eventually get sweaty and might start to smell. I don't think there's an opportunity to do laundry there. Does that mean I'll have to wear smelly clothes the whole time?
