Everest Base Camp What to expect, how hard is it? Tips for trekking

  • Everest Base Camp 14 days Trekking.
    Although the elevation was lower than the MT Kilimanjaro, it was much longer and harder trekking experience for me but I am not regretting a single step that I took.
    One more of my bucketlist CHECKED !!
    Here is itinerary for this awesome trip.
    Day1: to Kathmandu ( 4,429ft)
    Day2: Flight to Lukla has cancelled due to bad weather
    Day3: to Lukla to Phakding (8,562ft)
    Day4: Phakding - Namche Bazar ( 11,286ft)
    Day5 : Namche Bazar to Deboche ( 12,139ft)
    Day6: Deboche to Dingboche ( 14,271ft)
    Day7: Zero day on Dingboche
    Day8: Dingboche to Thukla( 15,157ft) to Lobuche ( 16,174ft)
    Day9: Lobuche to Gorakshep (16,994ft) to EVEREST BASE CAMP ( 17,598ft)
    Day10: Gorakshep to Periche
    Day11: Periche to Dingboche to Namche Bazar
    Day12: Namche Bazar to Phakding to Lukla
    Day13: Likla to Kathmandu
    Day14: to Home

    Hi Jina and Jin, congratulations on that amazing trek. Those mountains were amazing. I was surprised to see birds flying around base camp. How long did it take to get back down to where you started your trek. I'm glad you finally posted this footage. I loved it. 😍

    Gorgeous video!! I have no plans to climb Everest but I love watching videos about it, and this is a great travel video! It actually makes me want to do the base camp trek (not the big climb) just to see the towns and scenery!

    Wow absolutely spectacular, I have watched several of your videos. I really want to do this Everest base camp journey, how many total days start to finish? By the way I also have also hiked the JMT and Loved your videos of your JMT journey.

    Suggestion about bringing 2 pillow cases is a good one - just might prevent getting head lice. LOL
    How effective were the solar panels that were attached to the back of your backpack?
    Very impressed with the clothing that you chose to make the trek.

      Solar panel worked great.
      Like I mentioned in video, there were outlets in the lodges but most of them didn't work.

    Another tip. Sit on left side of the plane to Lukla for best view of Himalayas

      We hired guides and porters.
      Our main guide took care of all the reservations including airport pick up and drop off , tickets to lukla and back.

      Actually, i didn't train for the hike since I climb often for high sierra mountains .
      You could probably do it if you have an experience over 13000ft

      My guide said that was the Everest but no that I am looking at the shape of the mountains, that might be wrong.

Is there anything you wish you knew before heading out on the trek? What did you find the most difficult part of the journey and one advice you’d give your followers?

      Thank you for your kind comments.
      You might say this sounds funny but buy enough toilet paper for the entire trekking in low elevation.
      ( or bring it from your own counrty) when u have to spend $5 for a very low quality small roll, you will understand what I mean ;)
      And try to avoid any unfiltered water or tea. I bought bottled water yet still got sick :(
      It wasn't a pleasant experience.
      Exchange money before traveling is a smart idea, too.
      If you exchange it through your guide or at hotel, your dollar looses its value about 20-30%
      And one last thing, walk slow. This schedule made to focus on getting used to the altitude. You don't need to rush. Just enjoy the scenery 😉

      If you could make a reservations in lodges and be able to get the permits of your own 😉

    heya, should you bring a hiking backpack or just a normal sized bag? any tips for shoes?

      Yes! Day pack ( around 30 litter ) should be fine.
      And for the shoes, my team wore alpine hiking shoes but not necessary. You won't step on that much snow during trekking.

      People usually go in groups guided by th local sherpas and porters.
      You need to book at least 3 month before your desired trip days.
      My sherpa said April to May is the best time to go but also the most crowded.

      Plan and prepare your trek, get permits.
      Fly to Lukla from Kathmandu.
      Start trekking, pass through villages and bridges.
      Take acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche.
      Reach Everest Base Camp and explore.
      Hike to Kala Patthar for stunning views.
      Descend back to Lukla.
      Fly back to Kathmandu.

      Go in Nov and take the longer/harder router via Gokyo Lakes and across Chola Pass back to Labouche. That significantly reduces the number of people.
