    Brilliant. Thank you. Tried two adaptors before this, but this one really does work. A friend gave me the screen. Was about to chuck it out, but so glad I didn't. Works really well! Amazing display.

    Hi. Thank you for this video! I have a 30 inch Cinema Display that I currently run off my Mac Pro using the mini display port to dual link DVI adapter. Coming out of the display is the DVI cable but there are 2 other cables one is usb and the other is thunderbolt, where are those plugged into in your set up if not to the MacBook Pro? Thank you again :)

    • @CodingWithAdam

      You’re welcome!
      I have the USB cable from the monitor going into a usb c hub that is connected to my laptop. I use to be able to control the the screen brightness of the 30 inch monitor on my older Macbook that was running catalina but when I upgraded to Monterey it stopped working. With the usb plugged in you can use the ports on the back of the monitor.
      As for the thunderbolt cable I don’t have that plugged in anywhere. Not 100% what that would be used for at this time.
      If everything is working great no need to plug in those cables. I hope this helps!

      @@CodingWithAdam It totally does! My Mac Pro is showing signs it might be giving up its will to live but my display is 100% so I was hoping to find a way to still use it when I upgrade. :) Thank you so much!

    What if you want to have 2 monitors and your lap top all showing a different screen ? Would it work to connect one display via HDMI port and another by the USB-C I wonder.

    • @CodingWithAdam

      I’m not sure if you need this cable. This cable is for dual dvi which the 30 inch has. You might be able to use a cheaper usb c to dvi cable for the 23 inch version of the monitor.

    Hey! So I have a mac thunderbolt monitor (model number A1316) and I want to connect it to a brand new macbook pro 2023 model. My monitor only has 3 cables at the back. 1 power charger, 1 USB-A, 1 thunderbolt cable. How can I do this? Thanks

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like the A1316 has a mini display port. This article might help.

    Hello ! I will receive tomorrow from a neighbor an Apple HD Cinema Display model A1082. Do you think that i can use this display trough a hdmi-dvi adaptor ? I have currently a laptop with win 10, i dont have a mackbook since i am a student with a low budget. What advice could you give me ?

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My advice is to try the adapter you have. Most likely it will not work as the Apple monitor uses something called dual link. I suggest the adapter I used in the video. I know it’s not cheap but it works. If you do have an issue Amazon has a really good return policy and you can return it for a refund. Before you order just make sure you can return it in case of any issues. I have had my adapter for over 1 year without any issue. It’s a fantastic display congrats on the new display!

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also the adapter is for usb c. If you don’t have that then you will have to find another solution. With the hdmi to dvi the resolution will be lower if I recall correctly.

  • @InjuryJunkies

    Looks like the part isn’t in stock on Amazon anymore, any alternate suggestions?

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s to bad. I did a little research and this one is similar www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08B7FSVTL/
      The Amazon reviews indicate that it has worked on the older monitors with dual link.
      Hope this helps.

    I've dusted off the monitor and brought it down from the attic. I has a 30 pin DVI instead of the 24 pin as in the video. Years ago I had to purchase a DVI to ADC adapter in order to use it with a new computer (which is now defunct). That adaptor has a DVI D single link cable and an old USB. Is there any way to use this with my Macbook Pro? I cannot find the 30 pin or the single link for a solution. Thanks!

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s really cool. According to this article it sounds like you could connect adc adapter with dvi single link to a normal adapter dvi adapter. For example you could get a dvi adapter to usc c or hdmi depending on what you have available on your computer. I also recommend purchasing an adapter from somewhere you can return if it does not work. Here is the article www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/using_older_apple_adc_displays_with_mac_pro
      Let me know how it goes 😀
      Also I was wondering which monitor you have?

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The monitors power plug will need to be plugged into an outlet.

  • @TravisLohmannMusic

    question- with an adapter like this though- it doesn't pass through any usb- so the ports in the back aren't functional- correct?

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the usb cable is separate on the monitor. I just plug it into my usb hub that I have connected to one of my usb c ports. The usb ports on the back of the monitor then work perfectly!

    • @TravisLohmannMusic
      @TravisLohmannMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CodingWithAdam i'm confused, The usb cable is separate on the monitor? So you're plugging this adapter from the DVI port on the Apple Cinema Display, then running this into a USB hub, and this in turn STILL powers the ports on the back of the ACD?

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TravisLohmannMusic Yes the monitor has multiple cables in the back and one of them is a USB cable. Correct this adapter is just for the dvi cable. I have a usb hub plugged into one of the other usb c ports on the laptop. I then plugged in the usb cable connected to the monitor into the usb hub and the ports on the back of the monitor then have power and are connected to the macbook :)

      @TravisLohmannMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CodingWithAdam OH my lord, so that's ANOTHER solution!!!!! ok, so I have a mac pro 2013- I could actually use a 3rd party adapter, plug in via DVI and then use the MONITOR'S usb cable and just do it THAT way. Thank you so much! (I'm actually using the apple official adapters though I hear they're quite uh.... finnicky)

    • @CodingWithAdam
      @CodingWithAdam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re welcome. Let me know if this works:
      How to solve low resolution issue:
      If you are not on the latest mac os version you might run into an issue where the resolution is low. All you have to do is open the display properties and select the monitor. You will see an option for scaled. Before you click scaled hold the option key on the keyboard then click scaled and you will have an option for 2560x1600.I

      Interesting that the resolution is not showing when you hold the option key and click scaled in the settings. Maybe something is wrong with the adapter. I would reach to the seller and perhaps maybe return it and try another adapter or the same. Hope you get it working.
