If Nobel Prizes were awarded for Lightroom Technique videos I'd nominate Matt for making this video on the fine points of brush technique! Can't tell you how many times I've run into the "too many pins" problem but until today it never occurred to me to use density as a means of getting more mileage out of each pin. I'd been depending almost entirely upon the flow control and multiple passes. It works but it's fussy and inexact. Matt, thanks so much for making the invisible "obvious" visibly obvious to me! Great video!
Wow! Finally an excellent discussion of how and when to use the Brush feather, Flow, and Density settings. The Densitiy descussion was especially helpful. This will make a big difference in how I use the Brush tool!
I love you, Matt! I never used the brush tool until I bought your presets, and it is magical. You explain things so clearly, with demonstrations that show specifically what each step is accomplishing. I'll be spending a lot more time with you in the coming days. And I thank you for making my "social distancing" tolerable.
Thanks Mat. Watched this some time ago and just now, a refresher which, because of my ‘maturing’ with the software picked up a few important aspects I missed first time around. I appreciate you’re taking the time in assuming we know nothing regarding the choices you make and explaining in a bit more detail as to what ‘exactly’ you are doing. I’ll sometimes click on someone that I swear is on coke or speed-its impossible to work with them given I’m learning something new. If I was a cowboy as the saying used to be, fine, just tell me what I need to do. Otherwise, please take the time to incrementally walk me through the steps as one would expect from a ‘teacher-student’ relationship. Thanks again for what you bring to the table for those of us that never stop learning (I’m 81 and have been shooting since I was in my early teens.)
As a complete beginner, only got L & P in December, this has really explained things to me. It's the thinking behind the actual "doing" which nails it. Thanks.
Thanks for explaining the way the brush works in Lightroom. I thought I knew it pretty well, but after watching your video, I know it better. Really enjoy your videos -- there's always something new to learn.
Hey Matt, I’m an old ex subscriber from kelby training, and is very nice to see you here, thank you for this helpful tips. I know that this is what you do for living and I really appreciate you for sharing your knowledge with us. I would like to help you somehow so I thought, you should have like a PayPal account link where we can make a donation to help you, so you can support your self and keep making more videos like this. Again thank you very much man!!!
Thanks, your tips are very helpful. It's hard to find tutorials that are straight to the point. Most I find are more the person talking about themselves than the actual process.
Let me just say that it is really refreshing to see a video that doesn't start with: Hey what is up guys.... ✌🏼 As for your tutorials, I am thoroughly enjoying watching them twice 😎
You have excellent tutorial, explained so clearly, that I haven't seen before. You explain every step, how everything works, and what result can you expect! Thank you for your help. One thing, if I can, try adding intro after introducing yourself in the beginning.
I was watching this thinking, yeah, yeah, yep, do that, yep I do that... and then you got onto Density and I was like What??? I don't need a million different brushes for each rock??? This might have transformed my workflow! Thanks from a keen amateur 🙌😍
That was extremely helpful. I just recently found you and I'm really enjoying your brush packs, tutorials & your teaching style. Keep up the great work. Love the way you get to the point immediately and deliver short manageable blurbs of useful info. I'm in sponge mode with your content! Thx :D
Hi Matt Thanks for tips and insights. Have used LR for years and just kinda bumbled along with brushes in a trial and error way, never really understanding all the subtle controls. Had lots of brush pins, did a lot of regression and rework, sometimes even ending with a great improvement. Now I feel I know enough to direct my brush work with a real intent. I will spend some time consolidating my new insights to then be able apply the learning to my everyday workflow. This really helped me and will improve my images. In some ways it's even better than a new lens, albeit that's not a good analogy as they are totally different things.
Well presented and explained, Matt- thanks for showing exactly how you went from before to after so clearly. I use PSE 2018 but can apply your concepts to my software, as well- just not as easily.
Just discovered your videos and have already learned so much even though I am fairly good with LR. Your teaching style is easy to follow and understand. Thanks!
Hi Matt! Please do a video on the Wacom tablet pen settings and express keys you find handy. I am really struggling with the sensitivity of the pen. For instance when I place a brush or clone pin (lightroom), I sometimes barely tap the surface and it sets a pin where I don't want it, and when I pull up from a clone pen, it will move because the pen tip didn't come exactly straight up off the surface. These kind of things are really frustrating. Any tips would be very appreciated.
I think I have watched this video two or three times. I learn a little more each time. In the brush settings there is a drop down that has Dodge and Burn. Are these different than what you are doing in the video and do the Flow and Density work hand in hand with one another? Maybe I missed something. Time to go back and watch again.
Hi Matt, I love all the tutorials you have and I watch them many times over. What pen and pad model do you use and do you think you will do a video on them. I have been using LR and PS for a few years and hate the mouse.
Have replayed this, and several other videos by you Matt, and really glad I stumbled upon them! They are very informative and well explained - and I love that you don't talk a mile a minute! LOL BUT...I gotta ask - because I've been searching, but haven't really found - at least not yet - a video or article that explains the difference between LR and Adobe Camera Raw. I know they do similar things, but am wondering why Adobe offers two programs that appear to do the same thing. AND, more importantly, why would one pick one over the other?? Perhaps you could address that in a video! :-)) Thanks for helping me understand!
This is awesome. can you do a video on the pen/tablet that you use and how to use it with Photoshop/Lightroom.tips and trick/setting?? thanks for the videos.
I stoped the video...before move on further I subscribed the channel and like 👍 it..I believe this the stuff I am looking the way you started explaing thanks
Matt, you are a natural born teacher. I tend to remember the things you discuss. Those 25 must know features videos tend to leave me feeling a little dumb.
Rob Frey Great tutorial. My question is what OS are you using with LR and PS have you upgrade to High Sierra? I see and hear bad things after upgrading and I'm afraid to pull the trigger.

Best explanation I have heard on this topic. Bravo Matt.

Hey Matt - over two days I've watched two of your videos and all i can say is thank you. So much great info I can't wait to dive into some photos.

Superior method for using brushes. Big help for my workflow. Thanks Matt.

Thank you so much. Small trick with density slider can go a long long way. Awesome.
