    What’s your take on allergy labelling? Feels like it’s in everyone’s best interest to clearly label allergens?!

    • @Jay_one
      @Jay_one 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +150

      I am allergic to pineapple, kiwi and strawberry. I was ambushed by a Body Shop salesperson in some London train station once and she applied hand cream on me without first asking while telling me that it was all “natural ingredients” blablabla… it had strawberry in it. I had an instant allergic reaction. Especially when it was the scientific latin name for strawberry on the packaging! I had to Google it to figure out that this was the reason for my allergic reaction. I was so angry!!

    • @Jay_one
      @Jay_one 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +146

      That whole “it’s all natural!” argument drives me insane. Cobra venom is also natural. I don’t want it in my face cream… ugh…

      I think essential oils should be labeled clearly. No they aren’t “allergen free” because they’re “natural” - they’re some of the most allergenic of the fragrance categories.
      My skin is very fragrance sensitive and often I’ll find products that don’t disclose.

      I am not allergic to food items that I know of. But some humans can't even breath the same air as the oils. So IMO they probably should add "contains nuts". Why not? Be safe.

      yeah I feel like anything that has a name that might not be immediately identifiable as a common allergen (like nut oils) should have a common name included

    I have a peanut and treenut allergy, when I was diagnosed my doctor gave me a list of the chemical/latin names of nuts so I can check all my cosmetics first! It’s surprising how many products contain almond oil which is usually called Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis

      I was dating someone with a peanut/tree nut allergy and it's definitely shocking how many products have some form of tree nut in them.
      The scariest thing for them was a product they had used daily for years that helped their eczema suddenly changed their formula and added almond oil to it one day and they had a severe reaction. It was terrifying.

    Cat eye nails are a derivative from magnetic nails, it was a thing in 2010's fist and recently returned with magnetic gels. It is not an exclusive asian trend, it's just another case of new generation rediscovering old trend and giving it a new name.

    • @Michiiru
      @Michiiru 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's also referring to the technique, not the entirety of magnetic polish. Like the "velvet polish" is when the magnetic beads are spread out in a way that LOOKS like velvet, cat eye is when they're all focused into one line normally towards the center of the nail. Just a weird thing to get upset about when magnetic polish has been popular across the globe for decades, not specific to China. Russian nail techs are actually some of the most innovative and trend setting out of all places and they're almost never acknowledged.

    For the allergy issue with beauty products:
    I don't think companies need to put allergy warnings on their products. However, for common allergies (like peanuts/tree nuts, eggs, shell fish, etc.), I do think that when they list the ingredients, they should include the simplified name of the allergen in parentheses. So for the example in this video, after they listed the "Orbigyna Oleifera Seed Oil" on the producta ingredient list, it should be followed by "(tree nut oil)".

Especially since sweet almond oil has become so popular to put in skincare products recently. However, that seed oil would have caught me unawares. With regard to tree nut allegy thingy, since a LOTTT of countries do not need any allergen 'warning' in their products, particularly cosmetics, I think it becomes the consumer's responsibility to ensure that the product they are using is devoid of their allergey triggers.
    One significant way which could help is identifying the INCI names (standardized naming of ingredients in cosmetics; companies that manufacture cosmetics have to follow this naming when listing their ingredients) of the substance one is allergic to and ensuring that it is not present in the product.

    Common allergen disclosures on everything that gets applied to the body (or can reasonably be expected to come in contact with skin) sounds like it should be a regulation. If its a regulation when it comes to food because we all understand that you have to avoid it because you could have a life-threatening allergic reaction, people don't just suddenly stop being allergic simply because you'd like to not be regulated

    I have a TON of allergies, including tree nuts, and am always extremely diligent about checking ingredient lists on both foods and hair/skincare/makeup products, but I would not have thought to check on that babassu oil. I didn’t even know that the babassu tree was a thing until this video! I think that brands should be taking all the steps they can to protect their consumers, and I really don’t think it would be that expensive to slap a “Contains Tree Nuts” warning onto the label, especially when you’re using a tree nut that is not commonly known in the part of the world where your main consumer base is located. There’s just no excuse, honestly, especially when an anaphylactic reaction can literally kill someone.

    I was under the impression that “velvet nails” were a specific way of using the cat eye gels. The example photos she posted were not “velvet” nails as seen on Korean nail media. With velvet you want to gather the shimmer into the center of the nail so it looks like a patch of velvet (duh) from all angles and there is no visible line of gathered shimmer as typically seen done with cat eye gel polish.

    i've had to check products before for nuts because i have a nut allergy, but usually it is something pretty obvious! like it will explicitly say almonds, etc. but i have never heard of this ingredient and seeing something that says 'seed oil' would not prompt me to look up whether it has nuts in it. i should probably start keeping a list of ingredients i don't know off the top of my head with me so i can check. i do think it is on people with allergies to check products but i do think that if something does not have a commonly known nut name in the list, it would be difficult to know! i wouldn't have even thought to look up other names for nut ingredients before seeing this. and i do think that all products should be labeled with common allergens, nut allergies can be fatal and i think it makes more sense for companies to be on the safe side with labeling.

    I think maybe nut allergies and other types of allergies should be listed. Even if it's in Teeny tiny writing! I wouldn't want someone to use my product, stop breathing, and my company get sued because there's no allergies list.

    I have to give props to the beauty industry for continuing to convince people (children) that it's more important what you put on your face, rather than what you ingest.
    Wait until these tweens grow up and realize they could have eaten more vegetables and lean protein, and they would have nicer skin for it. They'll be tens of thousands of dollars in debt from skin care waste, and they'll be puffy and saggy from all the Ramen they're forced to eat.

    Where does that 16 year old get the money for all of that? And no one needs all that, but I see other influencers using 6 or 7 serums at a time.

    Can you buy that mask from the last clip? And nonchalantly wear it around robert to see what he says? 😂

    The kid on the video said she was worried about getting wrinkles but mixing the wrong products and using them incorrectly can actually cause premature ageing, not to mention a slew of other issues.
    She also shouldn't be sharing her routine with everyone if she doesn't actually know what she's doing. Other kids that look up to her for owning all these "skincare status symbols" will try to copy and ruin their beautiful skin as well.
    They also always have the comments switched off so you can't even attempt to inform them, but when you do try they get all butthurt and gaslight you saying that you're bullying them just because don't like the factual information even when provided in a friendly way.
    A form of cognitive dissonance.
    They also seem to not be able to cope with being told no or that something isn't for them.
    Most of them would be quite spoiled/rich though to be owning this quality and quantity of skincare items so I imagine that's where the majority of that entitlement comes from, never being told no or they can't have that.
    They can't even cognise or consider why they SHOULDN'T have something. They believe their entitled to everything.
    Where are the parents? Oh right, they just buy them what they want to shut them up.
    With that being said though, it is in so many adolescents nature to rebel, even if it hurts them. I was definitely guilty of that 😂 (smoking and drinking etc) 😂

    I have a friend who is allergic to chocolate (terrible, I know) and she knows to look for it in every single product she buys, food or not. Obviously in skincare its listed under its scientific name (theobroma) - she has a very limited range of products she can use because they put cocoa butter in everything apparently.

    Seems like a safe policy to adopt for my future kids is to teach them social media is for entertainment and listen to none of them about anything.

    The 16 year old's routine seems to be a kind of neurosis. I'm autistic and I've had similar problems- mental addictions/fixations- throughout my life.

    All the 16 year old needs is cleansing, toner, moisturiser and sunscreen.
    She could go expensive Sephora or go to reasonable Target.

    The face mask is going to dry if you're wearing it overnight. I like to throw the face mask package in the bath I'm running and wear the warm mask while I soak. Then wash off and wear some eyes patches after the bath. It feels really nice but probably not necessary

    16 year old using 16 products where at least 8 to 10 of those products contain alot of the same ingredients. She probably has that much glycerin on her face. "Now I'm using my goo goo gone facial serum with my Appalachia water dew glow serum along with my SPF Sunny side up Coo coo for coco puffs mask"

      Also I wish I could tag her to let her know that this is going to age her, not only from the amount she is using but from the friction of the application from rubbing it in instead of gentley patting it.
