Skopje, North Macedonia: It's fun and funky here

- It’s easy to overlook North Macedonia, a small landlocked country nestled against Greece whose capital, Skopje, is its only real city.
But once you come here, you aren’t likely to forget it. Skopje is among the funkiest urban landscapes you’ll find anywhere, thanks to a years-long government-ordained renovation project that saw, among other things, scores of statues erected nearly everywhere you look.
The largest, in the city’s main square, is of Alexander the Great, although the North Macedonians refer to it these days as merely an “equestrian on horseback.” That’s after Greece took umbrage on behalf of its own region of Macedonia and threatened to block North Macedonia from NATO membership unless the statue was taken down.
It's still here, overlooking a bold, made-over downtown that stands in stark contrast to the venerable Old Town across the Vardar River that includes a centuries-old Ottoman bazaar and ancient hilltop fortress.
In short, it's a fun way to end my series of TH-cam videos from Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Skopje is the town of solidarity !
Made from the most famous architects and builders of the World .
This Square is not made without famous sponsors and supervisions !
It can be look as a miracle how is made modern urban town divided in several municipality full of cultural settlements .
And this Square didn't fail from the sky suddenly in the middle of nowhere !
The most important is that it is full of green parks which are giving characteristics like you are in the town of Paradise !
All what is put in Makedonia Main Square is in conformity with the surroundings and the town deserves it .
It is architectural miracle how it doesn't make you to close your eyes .
Bravo to the team of architects who did this miracle Square of 2014 !

Kitschy Square epithet was given by jealous political opponents who have promised that will move it up and make a new one , but they have enjoyed it for 10 years , and left it dirty !

@@user-it3to1xb5u So what? Slavs are not Macedonians?? Slavs have been living in Macedonia for centuries. Anyone living in the historical region Macedonia is Macedonian. Greece never owned Macedonia. Its territory doubled in 1913. Thousands of Slavic speaking Macedonians were expelled from the country. Names of villages and cities were changed from Macedonian to Greek. People's names were also changed. These are facts not an opinion.
