    This is the recipe I've been looking for ! Thank you! I stayed two weeks in Liberia at a Guest House close to the American Embassy, and we had this lady chef called Mama Jeryl...She fed us SO goooooD!
    I'm Nigerian and I'm back home, but I still remember thr taste of the pepper sauce and Corn Bread I had IN Liberia . Mama Jeryl had made me a jar of pepper sauce to take home with me and told me how to make some,but now my stash is all gone and I forgot the recipe. I saw many videos of Liberian Pepper Sauce online, but this one comes the closest to what that sweet lady taught me. Thank you so much!
    Im trying this ASAP. New subscription!

    If you want your pepper sauce without too much heat/hotness , you can mix your habanero pepper with bell pepper to reduce the heat. I like mine really hot that's why I used only habanero pepper.

    Our neighbors are from Liberia and bring us food often. Wende always gives us her Liberian hot pepper sauce, but besides chicken, shrimp, and fish, can you tell me what else to put her sauce on? I'm subscribing to your channel. Or maybe you already have recipes where you use this hot sauce, and I just need to play around on your channel. My husband LOVES her spicy food, but I sadly admit that she has to make a cry-baby version for me. LOL And I LOVE when she cooks on Sundays and has her windows open. The entire neighborhood smells amazing whenever she cooks.

    Congrats on your channel and all the success that awaits you. Your videos are awesome and am very happy for you and proud of you. To note this wonderful dish you made isn't Liberian Pepper Sauce. In Liberia we know this as Fried Pepper. We we Liberians speak of Pepper Sauce; it's an entirely different item prepared differently. When pepper is fried in oil it is fried pepper. When pepper is steamed or boiled down into a liquid with 👉🏿Vinegar👈🏿 added in; we Liberians call that Pepper Sauce. Fried Pepper is a rice condiment. Pepper Sauce is a fufu and soup (Pepper Soup) condiment.

      I don’t believe she meant it offensively. What she says is true. Many people in parts of Africa lack some of the little conveniences such as can openers, microwaves and such that America has. That’s a real statement. In some places food is cooked outdoors on coal. Having seasonings is different from having modern kitchen conveniences and gadgets. Most Haitians/Africans would understand that bcuz it’s the literal truth.

    • @CookingwithWinn

      I don’t have a pepper chicken video yet but, I’ll consider making one soon. You can make the pepper sauce and pour the sauce over the chicken and mix it together. If you don’t want the chicken too spicy, mix the habanero peppers with bell peppers and onions to reduce the hotness.

Just say your family didn’t have one.With that statement you are insinuating that there weren’t any can openers in the country. Some families did things the old fashion way and others couldn’t afford to buy a can opener so they didn’t have a choice but to use a knife.My family had a toaster a CanOpener,cake mixer etc.

      Just because your family had all those stuff that don’t mean it was available in store to everyone back then. Probably those that had it were people who have relatives abroad that send them those stuff. It wasn’t available in the market or store like the way all the other cooking material were available to everyone back then. Those stuff just started being available to everyone and I’m not saying everyone can afford it now but at least you can see it in store and market places a lot now than before but thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching.

    Fried pepper and pepper sauce are two different kinds of pepper I think you mean fried pepper, because pepper sauce is made with vinegar and lemon

      You really came to a Liberian woman’s post to tell her she doesn’t know what she was raised up cooking/eating? That’s like saying Koreans shouldn’t call it BBQ because where you’re from, BBQ involves and outdoor grill and BBQ sauce.
      You useless sheep have nothing better to do. Leave the people daughter alone before I get vex!

      @Harriette Harris and @Lovetee L; I'm Liberian. Harriet's is right. Sorry Winn you're wrong. Fried pepper is what you made; pepper fried in oil. Pepper Sauce In Liberia is peppered steamed or boiled not fried and vinegar is added to it. Fried Pepper and Pepper Sauce are two very different distinct things In Liberia.

      @@kplebonyebehnyine5195Well I don't know where you got your info, but this is exactly how my Liberian Chef (an old lady in her late sixties) made her pepper sauce, and it was the best thing! I've scoured the internet looking for true Liberian home cooking like Mama Jeryl (the Chef), and Winn's cooking is the only one that comes close. This is pepper sauce alright! Hats off to Winn! Thank you for representing the roots!

I’m never mad over carribean or African girls saying we’re spoiled because compared to them we ARE spoiled I’m mad when they say we can’t cook because American black women are the best cooks this world has to offer but really u mad that she said you’re spoiled? It’s spoiled of you that u even have time to get mad about something like that. Y’all must’ve gotten this pepper sauce in your eyes crying for no damn reason.

    Use a can opener when you want to open a can. Using the knife to open the can will damage the knife 🤦

    Winn, watch what you say. All Americans are not Spoiled. I'm from Mississippi and I grew up waking up early in the morning going to the bean and greens field to pick vegetables. We used a Knife to open cans, we fished everyday for food. My uncle hunted for deer and other meats. Yes the world has changed now and we have more technology. But nothing stays the same, everything changes. A baby go from a baby to an adult. A Caterpillar turns into a butterfly. With that being said. I just subscribed and now I'm unsubscribing.

      Of course I do watch what I say because I don’t want people getting offended, but it doesn’t matter what i say or how i say it, it seems like people still gonna find offense to it. I get that you do all those stuff in Mississippi but it’s a whole different experience farming here and hunting for your own food than it is in Liberia. But anyways, thanks for sharing ur feedback. Like i said before, my comment wasn’t meant to offend anyone. I was just joking around. And yes i do know that all Americans are not spoiled.

      Good to know I'm not the only one who felt a dig about Blacks in America being spoiled...because several people responded and @ me as well stating that it was only a joke... anyway, another Liberian gave me her recipe but I forgot an ingredient and didn't want to bother her...so I came to this site, there are others with pretty good recipes...

  • @kimberlywilson-lynch455

    Good recipe but please understand we Americans didn't always gave electric. Even to this day I still use a knife to open cans so don't generalize what you may not know.

  • @mississippikottonkandy8703
    @mississippikottonkandy8703 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    And by the way. You are using the wrong knife to open the can. A smaller sharper knife would work better

    • @CookingwithWinn
      @CookingwithWinn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think I’m using the wrong knife. I understand that some people prefer smaller knife because it works better but that doesn’t mean you can not use any knife. So what if someone do not have a smaller knife in their house, then what? They shouldn’t open their can with the knife they have because it’s not a smaller knife? As long as the knife is sharp and you feel comfortable using it, that’s all that matters. Like I said, back in Liberia, we didn’t look for a specific knife to open our can, we used whatever we have as long as it works.

    What's the difference between fried pepper and what you are making? Pepper sauce is different, used for futu and soup whereas this is referred to as fried Pepper. Yes, I know many people just say Pepper sauce to refer to all of them wrongly.

    Americans used to do the same thing we know how to open a can with a knife, the difference! We have improved or lives by not staying backwards. Africa has gold and diamonds, yet they Don know what to do with them, that's why the world can come in and take all you resources from you. We are not spoiled we just work darm hard, so when things make life easier we accept. Like you using a blender instead of chopping things by hand anymore. Just saying
