Great Video! Keep it up. Just small Tipp - on Before Boss 2 you dont need to go fully into the stun to start the event . Just go up the stairs and go back down :)
I really appreciate these videos, regardless of if they are gameplay with text notes, live commentary, or commentary over a previously recorded run. Obviously the final type is the best but it's also probably the most labor intensive to make. Also for the second boss you can trigger the RP without getting stunned if you just run up and right back down without waiting. Doesn't really matter too much in the grand scheme of a run but it's convenient.
I think it depends on the content. For a mythic raid boss I 100% think a reflectional commentary over a recorded run makes the most sense as in the moment I am hyper focused, especially if it is a progress takedown, and then in post I can edit the video explaining everything I do and what could have been better or improved. With mythic plus I do like the idea of talking through the dungeon as I run them as it feels more natural and as a dungeon, in my opinion, can vary so greatly compared to a raid boss it almost makes sense to take through thoughts and ideas as I go through the run. I do need to get better at on the spot commentary though I won't deny that. With that said, labour intensively does play a slight role at the moment in video approach as I also work full time! Thanks for the tip haha, I feel like a little bit of a fool now and I totally haven't been skipping the RP in that way since all the way back in Shadowlands 😂
Defensives are your best friend! Just getting use to liberally using them on big pulls or when you’re targeted by mechanics will help bring the avoidable damage (and hopefully deaths) right down :)
This is what I'm talking about… love this commentary video. I'm sure you'll find ways to improve the commentary overtime but this is miles better for sure to understand
Hey, your guide inspired me to give a try on WW monk. I instantly fall in love with this spec because of you. Thanks for content Kudos for video with commenting 🙏
Great video! Cool to hear your thoughts in the moment. The only thing I would add is the stats in the character window - please ignore me if I missed it.
Oh that's a cool idea. I wish I saw this comment before publishing my latest video! I'll make sure to slip that in on the gear and items section at the start of each video :) thanks!
Hey man just wanted to say that there isn't that much Windwalker-focused content out here, and your work is genuinely great! I know commentary videos were requested and that's your first so I'm gonna try to give feedback :) I think personally what I would like to see is the reasoning behind some of your decision making/the highlights of each dungeon section/ the dangerous mobs you're looking out for/ moments you had to adapt to a situation/ specific tips about where you think you could shine as a WW. And what I mean by that is you don't necessarily have to show the full uncut dungeon, but you can jump quickly between the interesting parts I mentioned above, and remove parts where the mobs are the same etc. Also if at some point you're focusing on explaining a specific part of the rotation/an opener/etc. it would be cool to highlight abilities with freeze frames/a bigger icon for said ability/etc. I know it's definitely more work and what you're doing is already very appreciated, just wanted to give my two cents! Keep up the great work, looking forward to your WA/addons video :)
Hey there! First off thank you for taking the time to write out this comment, I really appreciate the insight and ideas :) I see where you are coming from and I do like that idea of a proper in-depth mythic plus video. In my mind that would almost be a different video entirely and maybe I have mistitled this video as this is more of a commentary playthrough rather than a commentary guide. I think I am going to keep doing these commentary playthroughs as they are a cool way of getting across my decision making in the moment as well as just discussing thoughts and ideas in the moment. However, a commentary guide like you described would be a different video entirely and could be great as a guide for a dungeon for all classes but specifically Windwalkers (as that would be the perspective). I think that is something I will look into doing with the new season when all the dungeons are fresh and unexplored and may be something I could even do through the PBE so we can have a headstart on the competition 😂 . That way I could also increase the production value and spend a lot more time on them as they would be one off's for each of the 8 dungeons. It is totally more work but if it was something I made over time before the season dropped I reckon I could pull it off! Thank you again for the idea, it's definitely something I'll look into producing for season 2 :D
wwamazing ! thank you for the video, you inspire me to keep working on my monk, timed 2 12s but ahh things been slow on this side. i feel like i should be doing more dps looking at ya , then again im only 630 , im babeeh and will never have access to mythic raid. but will keep watching to learn :-)
Congrats on completing 2 12's! At the end of the day everyone is at different stages - I've been playing Windwalker for years and have been high end mythic raiding so I have access to a lot of high item level gear! I think the best way to look at things is to compare yourself to yourself from a week ago and if you've been improving then that's awesome! I always try to improve comparatively to how I did something in a previous key or previous boss fight. That's how I view things anyway :)
Yeah he did have a little bit of a mare 😂 honestly hit combo is the better talent on paper if you find yourself never breaking mastery. However, the two are so close that if you take into account human error then flurry can end up coming out stronger!
Why you have 120 energy but didn't skill it? Am I misunderstanding something? And I tried the talents you're having here... I guess I do something wrong, I lack energy lots of time and fail in the rotation... it's easier for me with the "old recommended M+ talents" ...do you have any help for "new rotation" with this focus on black-out-kick-talents?
So baseline Windwalker with no talents has 100 energy. However, if you take a talent in the second row called Ascension you will have 120 energy and increased energy regeneration (always take this). You can take a further talent called Inner Peace (7th row down and looks like a picture of a pot) that will take you all the way up to 150 energy! Without knowing anything about your character my best guess would be that you don't have as much haste as I do and as a result might be finding yourself in situations where you are energy-starved. This happened to me quite a lot when I was still gearing my monk up to its current gear level. If that is the case then I would totally recommend still using the old M+ talents! The talents I am currently running are the "best" for Windwalker but they 100% work better and are semi-reliant on you having a ton of haste. I currently have 20k haste as a reference (with pots, flasks, enchants etc.) In terms of rotation, the best way I can explain the changes is that pretty much nothing has changed other than a higher priority for blackout kick when you meet one of the following two conditions. 1) If you have 4 teaching on the monastery stacks for BoK then make sure you BoK before your next tiger palm so you don't over stack. 2) BoK gets a free cast and this can stack 2 times. If you reach 2 stacks then you want to make sure you use one reasonably soon after so you don't overstack these. Really, other than that the priority is still the same as it was before. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you have to black out kick all the time as this is not the case :) For a visual AOE guide you can watch this section of my Windwalker guide that might help you better understand our AoE opener and rotation: th-cam.com/video/QlHtS6q9PVw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5TK_HtrB3IFmEgn-&t=2903 Just keep in mind this video was made before the blackout kick changes so I don't reference those two conditions I wrote out above but you want to keep them in mind.
That's great to hear, I'm glad my videos help! The main weakaura I use, the one in the middle of my screen, is called Luthox - Monk Weakaura. It is by far my favourite Weakaura; it's clean, concise, and have tons of customisations. I personally haven't made many customisations to it but you can do pretty much anything you want with it! I am in the works of making an addon/weakaura video that will go over pretty much everything you see on the screen and a bit under the hood but I'm not quite sure when that will be out! In the meantime if there is a specific weakaura you like let me know and I'll hook you up, otherwise the link to the Luxthos one is: wago.io/LuxthosMonkWarWithin
Why is Fluren of xuen the better Choice if it just has an total impact of 3,7% if combo Strike is 5%? Im new to ww monk and love the spec and your vids. Keep up that Great Work :)
Hey there! Pretty much what @LouisCheung713 said. On paper combo strikes is the stronger of the two talents however, it is extremely less punishing. The damage output difference is marginal enough that if you ever find yourself breaking mastery you're better off running flurry whilst learning. However, if you find yourself never breaking mastery then go for hit combo's! It's been the staple for the past few years and is still the BIS talent of the two for raiding :)
I don't actually use plater. For my enemy health bars and plates I use an addon called Tidyplates. I really like the minimalist style and totally recommend it! If you want to give it a whirl you can download it here: www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/tidy-plates
Hey, sorry for the late response dude. So when it comes to BoK and SCK in AoE the best way I can explain it is: 1) Baseline SCK > Baseline BoK (No Buffs, No Stacks, No Nothing) 2) If SCK is glowing (Chi-Ji) and BoK is not glowing then SCK is higher Prio. 3) If BoK is glowing (TotM or Free Bok) and SCK is not glowing then BoK is higher Prio. 4) If both are glowing then SCK is higher prio. HOWEVER, the one caveat to this situation is if BoK has 2 stacks of the free Black Out Kick buff. Then BoK has higher priority as SCK with the new talents gives you a stack of this buff and you want to avoid overstacking. Hopefully that makes sense! 😅
It is an addon called GTFO! I have actually been using it since WoD and never looked back - especially as it seems like every new avoidable mechanic is getting harder and harder to see (or maybe that's just my eyes getting old)! Yeah I see what you mean, its difficult because it only brings up Brewmaster gear and talents! Generally speaking 2 1H's are better at the start of an expansion predominantly because of the added value of being able to use double weapon enhancements (i.e. Algari Mana Oil). I have had a look through recent discussions from other Windwalker's noticing sims suggesting a 2h is better but the consensus from the theorycrafters is that it's likely sim bait. I see that you have a crafted belt with an embellishment that is suited for tanking, if you are using this same belt for Windwalker then that could be where your issues lie. If you have the correct crafted weapon and armour embellishments then just ignore the rest of this paragraph! For Windwalker the best set up for crafted gear is a 1H haste/vers 636 weapon with the Darkmoon: Ascension embellishment. You could pair this with a belt, for example, with the embellishment Writhing Armor Band that basically just doubles the effectiveness of your Ascension embellishment. That's a fair comment. The damage in that dungeon was relatively low. However, there are a few factors at play that led to that damage number - predominantly the number of deaths in the run that led to slow pack takedown times which was super noticeable in the necropolis. That being said, Windwalker is still only middle of the pack in terms of damage output so if you're finding you do more damage on your Shaman and prefer Shaman then hey, play Shaman :)
