  • Japan, a volcanic country, is known for its many hot springs. “Onsen”, hot spring in Japanese, have been a part of Japanese life since ancient times. And there are some attractive hot springs that are not well-known to many people.
First, we headed to Hakone, a hot spring resort located in Kanagawa Prefecture, near Tokyo. There, we found an “ashiyu café” where visitors can enjoy food and scenery while warming themselves in the footbath. In addition, there are private baths that can be enjoyed in the great outdoors. You can relax your body and mind while gazing at the bamboo grove and listening to the murmuring of the river.
In Kimitsu, Chiba Prefecture, we found a hot spring resort built on a cliff by a lake. The view from the open-air bath is of the lake spreading out all around. The hot spring water here is said to be effective in removing dead skin cells and is called "hot water for beautiful skin”.
Located in Yamanashi Prefecture, an hour and a half from Tokyo by express train, visitors can soak in the hot springs while enjoying the view of the symbol of Japan, Mt.Fuji. The best time to visit is at sunrise. Many visitors were waiting to see the contrast between the sunrise and Mt.Fuji.
Prices and other information are as of May 2023.
