You were right about the gundam base stock situation being affected by Covid. Most of the regular release gunpla are not readily available in stores and if they are available online they could fetch up to 3x the msrp. A new factory will start to operate next year and hopefuly it will ramp up production especially the rare kits. *source: I live here
I visited the Gundam Base shortly after its opening in Japan, and more recently, just three weeks ago. The transformation is striking, akin to a night-and-day difference. The store has picked through, resulting in a noticeable reduction in the variety of available kits, with approximately half as many options compared to my initial visit.
A lot of stock gone because people found out about it closing limited construction of kits so rare community gunpla play no games especially people who work there and knew ahead time scalping lol
my family and i went to japan last year. i wasnt even into gundam / gunpla that time, but after that trip and 15 months later. i got 51 kits now. LMFAO.
I am going to japan in december, and i am going to definitely going to check out that last place you featured, the amount of metal builds they have is insane
Yodobashi Camera is stupidly awesome. I went to the one in Kawasaki and then the one in Shinjuku. Also not plamo related, but I managed to get my hand on the old prize figures from the Federation girls from that one mobile card game. I couldn't find the Zeon girls though. I think the Turn-A has not been reprinted in a while so its pretty rare to find. Also something interesting that blew my mind was that the regular RE 1/100 Jagd Doga was 17,000 yen and the Quess PBandai Version (which to us in the US is rare as hell) was going for 9,500 yen which is nearly half the price.
I agree, I went to Japan in 2017 and 2018, and the gundam base has pretty much everything. l went again april 2023 and they have so many repeats here and there, not to mention no witch of the mercury kits. one noticeable thing is the price. shops in japan don't offer as much discount as in 2018 anymore. I know it is 2023, more people got into hobby, andbandai cannot match the demand for kits, but I cannot stop feeling disappointed that I didn't get the bargain that I used to get in 2018. I am from Indonesia and if they ask me for full price for those kits, I would rather buy it in Indonesia because it costs the same. let me add few more stores into the list: Bic camera, yes both yodobashi and bic camera have model kit, and pretty complete too. I think yodobashi is better since they have more discount, but bic camera has kits that not in yodobashi, so it is definitely worth it for you to go there just to check what they have Surugaya model kit specialty store (they have other specialty store such as boys love, ask me how I know it lol). they are everywhere including akihabara. I got a lot of non gunpla kit here, it was like, super cheap too (40-60% off) Yamada denki (labi) ikebukuro, they specialize in gunpla. I went there and they have pretty big selections of gunpla (and I think metabi too). the last time I checked it out (april 2023) it was much smaller though, it used to be one whole floor for gunpla, but now only half Den-den town osaka just enter random shops and you can find cheap kits there. they usually cheaper than tokyo. I went there again in april 2023, sadly a lot of model kits shop closed. and only few that opens. my recommendation is joshin super kids land Mandarake definitely not akihabara one, that one is picked up clean. try in different city such as osaka or nakano broadway. got some good p bandai at reasonable price.

I went to Mandrake in akihabara and Nakano Broadway. I just didn't film there. Both didn't have as much stuff as they did the last time I went in 2018.
@@CZEN2 just went there last month, and both shibuya and complex had a decent amount of p-bandais. though suru is the better alternative if you're p-bandai hunting.
GB is going on tour again so that may be part of the reason for the decreased stock. It seems like they want to expand their business more into the US so they are hosting some popups to generate interest. If a decrease in new stock in Japan for a bit means GB getting popular and being able to open in the US then fine by me. It's also worth mentioning that since this came out there has been a huge increase in model kits released in the US. Just about every store I go to now has PGs on the shelf in mass number. Feels good man.
I was there not too long ago and at the register they said there's a shortage of materials to produce the model kits. Also Foreigners, especially Chinese export a ton of Gunpla which leave the stores barely stocked. You can also buy a max of 2 of the same products and only once a day at this shop (Gundam Base)
Great vlog, really appreciated hearing about the differences of inventory between regions and eras. I was JUST in Japan, mid-to-late October. Visited the Gundam Bases in Odaiba and Yokohama, plus many Akihabara department stores. As awesome as the bases were, another store with a staggering variety of kits was in Radio Kaikan, in the heart of Akihabara. The model kit floors (plural!) rival Yodobashi Camera. While I saw plenty of premium/uncommon kits on my trip, I was lucky enough to find MG Gundam F90 there - and didn't see it anywhere else for the rest of the trip. If anyone is looking for kits in Tokyo, Yodobashi and Radio Kaikan are crazy. Akihabara's massive stores hold some treasures for sure - explorers, go wild! がんばってください!
Cool video! Didnt realize metal robots were so small either… Do you have any recommendations on packing the model kits for the flight back? Was planning to loosely cut up the runners and put it on the carry on but idk if I’ll be fast enough to get through all of the kits in between traveling. Somewhat afraid to be any kits in the checked luggage and risk runner damage
I did not utilize any packaging materials for the return flight, as I had sufficient space in my luggage to accommodate additional items. Therefore, I did not require any packaging. In my opinion, plastic bags obtained from retail stores or t-shirts would likely be the most suitable option to give it some cushion. I can comprehend your concerns regarding the handling of luggage by airlines, particularly in the United States, where mishandling is more prevalent. For the Japanese leg of your flight, I don't think that will be an issue
There was one video where the person open up their boxes and put manual in between the runners and taped it. The boxes they flatten it and put on top of the runners in the suitcase. This will ensure the boxes doesnt get flatten and saves space
as someone who's in portugal, who's only store in the country has a pitiful selection of gunpla (i'm talking "we have a dilanza, the black ground type gundam and the chinaguy and hyper gyanko kits. have fun"), seeing these vlogs makes me so jealous. I’m a Japanese Gundam fan and I tell you the reason the Gundam base stopped stocking all the items on their actual shop. That’s professional scalpers teamed up by Chinese to collapse Bandai’s monopoly and provoked amateur scalpers ruined relationship between Bandai and Customers.
The main reason wasn’t Corona. Actually while in pandemic peak, locals didn’t even care making line or waiting outside for 5-6 hours to get new kits.
The Chinese scalpers spread pre-ordering app(which steals phone owner’s personal information) to take all of preorder materials and while customers with normal life is working.
Those Chinese scalpers comes all the actual shop around big cities with multiple van and took away.
Those items become double the price to sold in all over the world mostly US fans.
When you come to Akihabara, you see a person who is their camera on and speaking Chinese reporting all the shop stocks to “someone”.
I know scalping has definitely been a problem the last few years
Why is metal build strike freeom blue soul almost double price even 20th ani vers somewhere else is way cheaper huh at original price
The strike freedom has always been very sought after in the secondary market, so it's always gone for more than the original price
