As soon as they released the OLED I was very happy because it meant they dropped the price on the 64gb original which I bought pretty much straight away for around £300! Just finished arkham asylum on it which I bought for only £1!
Best review I have seen all night! I copped a refurbished 64gb from Gamestop for $250 The unit is practically brand new! The exhaust smells like new, I slapped in a spare 256gb sd card and tested a few games. I am wholly impressed by this big chungus handheld gaming PC!
Thanks man, I appreciate it! That’s a steal for this you saved $100 dollars and you get the same performance as any other Steam Deck including the OLED version. I’m glad you enjoy it and happy gaming!
You sold me on the LCD version. I wanted the OLED as I have a Switch OLED so I know the improvements OLED can bring but the OLED version was just too out of my price range. Cant wait for it to arrive.
Great review! Im a Steam heavy gamer, and looking ot grab a 64gb next week so this was exactly what i wanted to see. Xbox cloud seems to run quite nice too on it from what im told, plus easy access to upgrade internal ssd(if i do down the road) so im sold. Subbed!
$350 dollars for a 64gb SD from Valve ($50 dollars less with my Christmas money) along with a 512 ssd upgrade for only $50 is a still compared to the price of the OLED. While I would love to have the upgraded benefits like the higher refresh rate and better battery life, you can't beat the price of $375 vs $592 buckaroos. Just have to wait for it to arrive now.
This is the the best conservative review that I’ve seen. As a woman who enjoys casual gaming, mainly cozy games, I just don’t know that spending basically $600 on the OLED steam deck is worth it for me. Every other video review makes it seem like it’s an absolute MUST to get the OLED. But is the LCD really THAT bad? I don’t game hardcore, but would like a handheld PC to play some steam games like Coral Island that aren’t available on my Nintendo Switch. Thanks for not bashing the LCD 😂
Thanks! The LCD is not that bad, sure the color accuracy isn’t the best when compared to other handhelds like the ROG ALLY, Legion Go, and OLED Deck. But as someone who’s used other handhelds with better screens I don’t really find myself complaining about the screen on the LCD Deck, I think it’s fine. Also the main advantages of the OLED Deck are the better battery life and screen, there is no performance boost or anything like that. Hope this helps!
I love my LCD version's screen. I think it's more than good enough. I love OLED so I'd love to have that but honestly I play games for the fun and not the color accuracy of the display.
Add a pair of xreal glasses. I have the nreal the first before they became xreal. Its a huge oled screen and it extends steam deck battery life due to low battery consumption.
Just got the Asus Rog Ally and already have the Deck. Love the more console like experience of the Deck. Windows already acting a little quirky sometimes. Still like it but the Deck just has the better user experience. I’ll keep both of them anyways.
This is a great buy, my only advice is to do the SD drive switch as soon as you get it. I waited around a year and ended up losing some game saved data from my emulated library. The SD Drive switch and OS install is extremely simple so no reason to wait, it's a no brainer to upgrade it to at least 500 gb
im currently using an sd card until i upgrade it to a ssd. i dont care about losing data when formatting it personally, i really have nothing important on it also cryoutilities lets you move the shader cache
@@randomgamingin144p shader cache wasn't the issue for me. Tried using the emudeck cloud saves feature and it didn't work so lost my game saved data for FFVi (around 20 hours) Ocarina of Time 3D and Metroid Prime remaster. Another annoyance was constantly having to clear shader cache and compact data because the 64gb internal would be always getting full.
I brought the LCD 512 gb today. The Oled looks nice but its on a small res. and have to play on med. If I want better graphics i'll just play on my PC's OLED UW. This seems perfect for those indie games I don't want to play at my computer.
I agree with pretty much everything but the Lenovo Legion go runs everything and I mean everything like any game you throw at it the steam deck on the other hand I had to mess with my frame buffer in the BIOS and switch around from one to 4 to 3 back to 4GB VRAM to find a sweet spot for games to not crash but once I did it was amazing Like I literally went from not being able to run generation zero for more than two minutes at like 20FPS to 60FPS at high settings running fluidly for a long amount of time on the steam deck
Completely agree, for more demanding games I go to my Legion Go or ROG Ally. But for small indie games or less demanding games, the Steam Deck really shines! Glad you’re able to enjoy it now, happy gaming!
Love your review i just ordered my steam deck 64gb and im so excited i wanted to know how do you manage space for saved game data or shader cache is it as simple as uninstalling a game and by doing that it removes all components too as well as saved game data and shaders?
I have one myself but would never recommend the 64GB SteamDeck to others. The internal shadercache is a burden to manage for power users and casual users will find themselves stumped as to why the internal drive has no more space.
i sorry i use the ally rog instead off the steam deck majority of my games need launchers i dont want too do loop arounds too make them work sorry but i like the rog ally and legion go because plug and play and download everything i use is compatible i am happy with my ally rog i had a sd card issuse but i send it in for 1 month then it was fixed
Glad you enjoy the Ally, I do as well. It’s a little beast of a machine same with the Legion Go. If you prefer power it’s probably best to stick with those lol. Happy Gaming!

Awesome to hear, it’s a really great bargain now! Glad you’re enjoying it.
I did the same. I bought it yesterday for $349. Can't wait to get it.
but lcd version would have ips glow and backlight bleed its Really annoyed me
Best review I have seen all night!

Hi, is your Steam Deck still working good today? Because I'm planning to get a refurbished for long term use.
You sold me on the LCD version. I wanted the OLED as I have a Switch OLED so I know the improvements OLED can bring but the OLED version was just too out of my price range. Cant wait for it to arrive.
This thing looks so cool!
I'm gonna get one!
Especially for the Arkham series!😊

As someone who was skeptical about the deck and a first time buyer this really helped me make up my mind! Can't wait for it go arrive!

@@faristriesgamingtechif I’ve never had a pc and only played ps currently have a ps5 Will the lcd run better when it comes to graphics and games
For me the short answear is yes. Long answear is yeeeeeeeeeees. But there is even longer one you won't guess
lol, yup the only answer is yes! 😂
Just got the Asus Rog Ally and already have the Deck. Love the more console like experience of the Deck. Windows already acting a little quirky sometimes. Still like it but the Deck just has the better user experience. I’ll keep both of them anyways.
Agreed, I love the Steam Deck experience but I also love the ROG Ally for its power and ability to play more games because of windows!

Is there issue with shader cache with latest update
use cryoutilities to move the shader cache to a sd card
will it work if I use a 3.5mm jack for voice chat?
