Shout out to Mark! It's Albert, Big Al passed away last year and till his last days we talked about the time we came up to run in your TUFF21. You sure have come a long way since then. I still drool over the Skater!!!
I have been in a tuff boat over 100mph. It is a terrifying quick ride, instant throttle response. I hope to eventually get a tuff 16 to boot around the lake with.
Looks like your no longer a boat racer at speed but a pilot. Some of those shots the boat hull was barely touching any water, just the lower unit. Amazingly smooth design! The boat has a clean but very aggressive stance in the water. Love it!!
Put simply, they don't handle rough water. And certainly not in the top half of the speed range. Build this boat to handle rougher water and it loses, intentionally, mph.
The qc4v is my favorite engine, i'd love to see one in a drag car tuned to a inch of its life, being a marine engine I know they've got it way turned way down to make it last.
Interesting: Mark with Helmet. Drew no helmet. Friggin fast boats! I'd like to see one pulling world-class skiers in the Catalina ski race! A little open ocean action trimmed flatter.
Well there's a 28ft from the USA 🇺🇸 Running either 122mph or 125mph & this was about 15 /20 yrs ago from one on the main manufacturers over there . A bit 2 go .
Australia must no be part of “the world” we run those speeds with skiers, and at one point we’re hitting 140mph with skiers under race conditions. The sport has since been speed capped at 125mph for safety. But you go have your world record mate 👍
Tuff Marine boats are fast because they're very light. According to Crouch and Keith number we really have the world's fastest single-engine monohull. Cashmere Powerboats
Lol. Many complex and technical decisions go into this. Certainly not saying I understand them all but you should study the topic, boats and engines, more before you make such a comment. If those thing were feasible they would have done it. They didn't, so, put simply, it's not. :)
@@Bubbles99718 The only mistake I made was the 1350 engine; that's what they put in it(actually it was the new dual HP Merc 1100/1350.). And they certainly could have put at least one step in the hull. Steps can be put on any hull, Vbottom or multihull. YOU need to study b/c you don't know f**kall about boats.
High power motors for drag racing wont last long in a boat because of the extended time at full power. You reach top speed in a car in a matter of seconds and can let off the throttle. These boats need full power for at least several minutes with reliability.
Not sure where you get your World Record numbers from but in Australia we have Force 23 skirace boats that are pulling 2 skiers at over 135mph and they are single engine v bottom boats. Check out Hellrazor skirace boat at Robinvale on TH-cam
That blue 28 Tuff with a merc 860 ran 137mph wide open from I understand.... the 125mph was a 3/4 mile race where that record stood. I think the 34 is projected to go 160+ all said and done.
@@joshuareid3221 Aust Ski Race boats are really never run WOT without Skiers I am sure that Hellrazor or Mercforce would exceed those numbers without skiers. Before you blow them off maybe check them out they are a master of engineering and boat build also you have Nordic Boats in the US there 21 is super quick with a 1350/1550 twin drive boat as well.
So to go the quoted 160mph the boat on the numbers on the dash in the test and some assumptions (1.24 ratio drive, 5% slip (very optimistic)), will require a 35" Prop and a run to the limiter! I am not sure that they will see 160mph. All calculations are based on Mercury's prop calculator which in my 30+ years of being involved with fast big engine Monohulls is pretty accurate.
@@HP1050 Good to know, I wasn't blowing them off (no doubt they are impressive) I was simply just filling in the holes of the gentleman's comments about where the world record stood. Hellrazor isn't factory power from Mercury so I'm not going to compare them to Tuff's Merc powered boats but you have to think that the 34 boat is not nearly close to being setup. The 34 is still in 1100hp mode and hit 112mph on the limiter... there is plenty more on the table and from what I know about Tuff hulls is that it hadn't completely set on the pad in those runs. Lots of MPH still to come.
Here's a link to single engine Vee bottom boats doing 135mph, towing two water skiers in 2016. th-cam.com/video/hV1erFxkcN4/w-d-xo.html We build 60mph sail boats also.
I had a 16ft Jolly Rodger that did 35 with a 90 Johnson on it when I got it. I built a ride plate-motor set back bracket and milled the heads 20 thou, and got it to run 58 mph. By far the fastest 90 horse on Lake Washington at the time.
Choices have to made: pure top end or more sea worthy. Each goes against the other. In the 70's Magnum boats went offshore racing. They went heavy. They weren't the fastest but they were the fastest when the seas picked up. Interesting stuff
Thats not good. The monohull, single engine guys here in Australia are running nearly140mph while towing two skiers. Just do a search for "Hellrazor Robinvale Blitz 2014" on youtube. They've been doing these speeds for years.
@Kyle Rhein yeah well no shit they go that fast, look at the size of them, I’m talking a ski boat can do 120mph, not a huge boat, and they can’t tow skiers
Speed on water it's not just the number of mph, it's matter of power-to-weight-to-length ratio: Keith and Crouch formulas. If you're serious you'll talk about them... At Cashmere Powerboats we have the world's fastest single engine monohull!
Hmmm worlds fastest Mono??? th-cam.com/video/HZ5sLPcWsDY/w-d-xo.html thats towing 2 skiers notice it tops out at 137mph in the first straight and thats backing off the throttle!
That's incredible, thanks for sharing! I can't imagine standing on a plank of wood going that fast. Crazy stuff. The Tuff team is just getting started with the Tuff 34. Mark's confident in his design target of 160mph and even more so after initial test runs with the wrong propeller and without calibrating the 1350 to its full potential. We're hoping to follow up when they've got it running at its top speed (if they'll have us back out!). I'm pretty sure it'll be the world's fastest single-engine Vee bottom, but I'm absolutely certain you won't catch me behind it on a waterski!
How is this the fastest vbottom boat? In Australia we have single engine v bottom boats pulling two skiers down a narrow river at 130mph plus th-cam.com/video/HZ5sLPcWsDY/w-d-xo.html and this is an old video, this record has since been broken many times.
Agreed, I don't get it either. IMHO, maybe it is a production boat thing?? I'm sure there's pretty strict class rules for it. There's definitely waaay faster v bottoms around.

That motor alone is how much. 200k. 250k. ?
You don't wear a hat during the national anthem and you don't play background music during a V8 rip.

Great job! 🇨🇦 such amazing boats!
How do they handle rough water, on the bay or any ocean inlets. Will we see on the offshore circuit?
A flat smooth lake run is one thing... now go into 2 to 3 foot rollers in the sea. Joe Sgro and Aldo RIP.
Put simply, they don't handle rough water. And certainly not in the top half of the speed range.

137 mph, ski boat with 2 x skiers in tow...
It would disintegrate in chop!!!
At 9 glass looks thin. Is that a non glass cover?

I’ve done 145mile skiing on a single motor V bottom boat
Your gauges showed 112mph @ 5899 rpm. Max rpm for your motor is no more than 6500 rpm. How much for speed do you think to pick up?
They'll use a different prop...
Going to look for a recent run. That motor actually goes to 2500 hp in a burst so with a different propeller, who knows?
Is the top speed over a standing mile like bonneville? I don't know anything about boat racing.
It's not official. Going by speed on a gauge.

You should be aware speed on water is “relative”. In order to say “the fastest” you must mention Crouch and Keith number!

Ozarks.
I just don’t like how far it comes out the water
Lol, that's what real performance boats do. Some boats, only the prop shaft, half the prop is in the water.
The Razors Edge.
And yep, dangerous as hell
So outta curiosity, when the 34 starts to be on a full production level. One would be able to go offshore with this? Or is it strictly a lake boat?
Looking at that hull, it is really shallow for a 34. I think this is truly designed for calmer waters and for all out speed.
