    6:15 lighting the candle with all that gorgeous paint and glassy water ahead of you and all that engine behind you. Magical.

    The way V-Drives work puts the engine in backwards and close to the transom. I didn't see any boats setup like that? I'm confused..
    Those boats are awesome though!! Just hearing those engines I can smell the race fuel in my head!

    • @FastLoudPhotography
      @FastLoudPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, the engine is at the stern of the boat and a drive shaft goes to to the v-drive transmission which sits between the front seats. That v-drive transfers the power to the prob shaft which extends to the prop at the stern of the boat, running through the transom, held in place by a bearing housing which is water tight. If you draw a line from the engine down the drive shaft to the transmission and back down the prop shat, it makes a “V” shape, hence the name.

    I'm no boat expert, but, I know HP when I hear it! I think an old PT Boat with modern power and all the extra weight off, would be cool. The PT-73! LOL

    • @stuntflyr
      @stuntflyr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a PT boat with three Allison V-1710's is enough power, it's the venue needed being the Pacific! They are 80 feet long!

    Not once did I see the butterfly’s open 100%.......

    • @mboyer68
      @mboyer68 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      At 14:10 you can see them open fully, but ours in the shade, then again at 14:46 you can clearly see them disappear as they go flat...in the sunlight. Kind of an unusual comment because you can clearly hear every boat go wot..wide open throttle..on their runs. And every time at wot, those butterflies will be fully open. So you don't have to see them, you can hear them. I don't understand who would thumbs up this comment either..must be more newbs who are unaware that they're fully open when at wot.

    • @FastLoudPhotography
      @FastLoudPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of these are blown alcohol engines. They burn super clean and super cool. In fact, the air intake freezes over from condensation after running for a few minutes.

    • @jbaker8871
      @jbaker8871 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @rsmith3033
      @rsmith3033 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      on my flat the water intake is made into tha prop shaft strut @ tha prop so for tha most part its at least at tha surface or below , otherwise like tha comment above it will burn up an impeller quickly 😎

    Why are the seats set so high in this class of boats?

    • @FastLoudPhotography
      @FastLoudPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! One is just by the nature of the boats design with the very low freeboard area (side height). But also because these boats were designed for drag racing so they are made to let the driver get ejected away from the hull without getting caught up in the wreckage at over 100mph. If you do a search for drag boat crashes, you should be able to find images of these boats flying in the air while the driver is skimming across the water. When they land back in the water they usually disintegrate, and you definitely don’t want to be in it when that happens. Crazy, huh? That’s why I remain “just the photographer”. 😉
