1:08 You wouldn't believe that 60 years ago, that both sides of that Palisades block had some of the fanciest clothing shops in the city.

I would believe it Toby. I was born in Yonkers in 1958, back when the city was beautiful and had style. Now it's just a degraded slum.

Nice video, but you literally missed like 90% of Yonkers' hoods lol. More than half of the video was in the same 4 block radius. As a suggestion (if you do a part 2), try school street, van cortland, Riverdale, Hawthorne ave, nepperhan, Warburton, buena Vista, South Broadway, cliff st, Carol, valentine, post st... Those are some hood streets

I grew up in Yonkers when it was a beautiful place to live. All the factions that moved in after just dragged it down. Hoods are not great, they are and always will be just slums. so sad for a once vibrant and productive city.

I lived in Yonkers for 15 years. I could tell you stories. I now live 80 miles north in ulster county. Cant pay me a million to move back to Yonkers . My apartment got robbed, my next door neighbor did that. Gates on the, window and apartment insurance. Parked car in street and home boys ripped off my passenget side mirror. People would come at 1 in the morning and blare the horn. I almost got my pocketbook taken my ftiend next to me say the robber sneaking up to me and called the robber out. He ran into the auto parts store . I got mode for you...saw outside a big drug bust going on in the middle of the afternoon. Undercover car

Bunch of cops jump out with rifles car door hanging open, surround house round em up and off to jail. Activity going on at all hours of night at that house . Local news said drug dealing house and dealer had a special compartment made in the car to stash drugs but the cops found the hidden compartment

  • @TonyMoze

I lived in (south) Yonkers in the 80s and 90s.
It was rough and I could not fathom anyone who was on the Honor Roll getting through schools like John Burroughs junior high, Saunders High School, Gorton High, etc. and passing. I still could not even understand how w hites were able to live there, though only a few w hites. One had to be moved to the front of the bus for fear she was going to get jumped by a group of kids in the back. I had trouble sitting in a seat, my whole year going to John Burroughs junior high, because no kids wanted me to sit with them, and the kids in the back wanted to find a reason to beat me up.
I could not sit in a class without a kid smacking my head, neck, pushing me, bothering me to listen to them, getting tripped or pushed in the halls, etc. Knives and guns going into school. Kids coming up to you with a gun pressed up to your gut, in school saying calmly, "i want your bubble jacket" or "I want your Nike sneakers."
Also walking through the PJs near Getty Square, Warburton, Buena Vista avenue, etc. - I was always running from neighborhoods because kids would chase after me in groups or get dogs to bite me.
Just like Jadakiss said, him and I both are from Hawthorne/Pier Street area, and I could not leave anything for a few seconds without it getting stolen. I lived next to that Domino Sugar factory.
My pops moved to White Plains because it was too rough to live there, always being on edge.
But? I guess things have changed, huh? Well good then!

I'm from Upstate NY I lived in Yonkers for 2 years , I liked it there. The views are sweet , the mountains ⛰ water , diversity was Kool. Had to get use to the hills on almost every street , Especially in the winter 😩 l.o.l people there were Kool. Only knock is it was expensive with nothing included in our rent. But I like Westchester County , We were 5 minutes from the Bronx and 25 minutes from Manhattan. And yall winter's are not as harsh and upstate we don't get 100 degree weather. But here you get way more for you're buck , what's 1,000 rent here is 2,000 0r 3,000 there. I want to move again One day to Westchester County White plains or New Rochelle , Laid back spots close to all action 🎬.

Having grown up in Yonkers 60's - 70's, Nodine Hill & Getty Square were never "good" neighborhoods even back then. But they weren't as neglected, run down, and outright dirty as they are in this video. My mom would take me shopping with her at Grants, H.L. Greens, & pick up a treat at Fanny Farmers. I liked Getty Square back then, especially at Christmas time when all the decorations were up.
