Thank you! The richest cities in the world (LA and NYC) have some of the worst hoods. There’s nice parts in Waterbury but obviously people like to show these parts only
For viewers not familiar with Waterbury, much of the first half of this video shows the Willow Street area northwest of downtown. While some parts of the city have been severely rundown for decades, Willow Street was a unglamourous but decent working class area until it began deteriorating around 20 years ago. Even today it's not completely bad; anyone would be safe walking down the street at any hour of the day or night, which is definitely not the case with some parts of the city. At around the 18-minute mark we see the brick buildings of Berkeley Heights, a 1950's city housing project located on the highest hill in Waterbury. For many years they were the absolutely worst and most dangerous part of the city with a crime rate as sky-high as the location. Fortunately, in the 1990's the city embarked on a massive improvement program. It replaced the crime-ridden interior hallways with exterior porches and long entrance stairways and (allegedly) booted out many of the known problem tenants. Berkeley is still rough, although I'm not easily intimidated I'd never walk around there, but it's not nearly as bad as it once way. At around 24 minutes the video shifts to the west side of the Naugatuck River. Specifically it's in Brooklyn, an area which used to have a substantial Lithuanian population. While Brooklyn is a bit tatterd, nothing too bad and certainly not unsafe, most of the areas west of the river are respectable and middle class, and there's even a quite upscale area.
Thank you for pointing this out. Although I lived in the Bridgeport to Stamford area for several years, I don't remember ever having been to Waterbury. While I was looking at the houses in the Willow Street area I was thinking that they were probably quite beautiful at one time.

The same goes for Poughkeepsie, NY. Academy Street is lined with large, beautiful multi-story homes like in Waterbury, but the majority of fatal shootings take place there.
Born in 94’ in the ville. I went to school on willow and later on downtown. I’d ride my bike all over town- from Cooke st to whatever the neighboring town is with black rock park; from bucks hill boyden st projects to wolcott. I’ve hooped on literally every blacktop in the city. And personally I can’t recall ever once feeling like my life was in danger except for the times I caused it to be such lmao. A lot of fiends the last time I was back home, but also a lot of loving individuals. I’ve been to about half the states and I can promise you there’s way more dangerous areas. Waterbury def looks a lot shittier than I remember, but I’m sure there’s still a ton of diverse and rich culture backgrounds mingling there. Growing up, Waterbury had a lot of very very hard working people living their who were family oriented and good people. It’s sad to see it like this video portrays it bc I have such fond memories. If you ever find yourself hungry in Waterbury , check out tequilas on Lakewood ave! I’ve been to half, if not more, of our countries states and I’ve yet to find better Mexican food than tequilas ( and that includes So Cal & Arizona). For breakfast check out Rich’s express on thomaston ave.. the value is insanely good, and if you’re lucky enough to go when rich is working, order extra home fries. 203 is beautiful under the surface, pain and suffering has the ability to diminish any city in any country. God bless! To the creator of the video.. if you have the ability to do so, I believe getting some interviews or talking to some heads would be an awesome experience for everyone. I walked Waterbury day n night from 2000-2015 and never had any issues. Some of the hoods I’ve been at in NY, CA, and MI I’d recommend to not leave your whip to approach strangers 😂 but I think it’s not a worry in wtby. God bless!

Both. Bridgeport has a better chance of bouncing back because it actually has a city feel. Waterbury is a bunch of hoods separated by woods and hills. Oh, and nice parts here and there.
There are some pretty nice areas in Waterbury. Waterbury is actually making a comeback. The pandemic drove people out of NY and into Waterbury because the houses are more affordable. So hopefully with the influx of new people and ideas, the city will start to start to come back to life a lot more.
There are still some perfectly decent and safe neighborhoods in Waterbury. High taxes and generally mediocre schools are a drawback, but on the plus side houses are more reasonably priced than in more suburban communities.

God bless!
Your lucky, kid, by '94,waterbury was alot better...and thank you for being positive, i hung out in waterville park, and park d'villle all thru the 1990's!! great spot....rich's is a 5 star restuarant inmy humble opinion.
Waterbury needs a better mayor like the one in New Britain. This city needs a revival!
Loved living off Baldwin it’s not for everyone 🤣
I grew up off of Baldwin .. I loved it haha but very true it isn't for everybody... I'm glad to have moved out of town recently. Not to a much better town just a less familiar one which I needed.
Place looks cool. I like it
What is worse S hole (in your opinion) Bridgeport or Waterbury?
Bridgeport is definitely worse. Waterbury depends on which area you choose to live. There are nice areas that are not shown in the video.
Bridgeport hands down
Both. Bridgeport has a better chance of bouncing back because it actually has a city feel.
Waterbury is a bunch of hoods separated by woods and hills. Oh, and nice parts here and there.
a lot of blight around Waterbury theses day
I just Moved to Bristol N I passed by this place too
All city neighborhoods have old buildings & can look run down but doesnt mean good or bad, just a little tired looking.
That boy TD stay getting up @2:45
YEA he's up everywhere been seeing him all over lately !!!
It's not all of Waterbury stays or look like that
Dam now that's the North I never been pass Atlanta
That’s sacred heart church. That’s was a fine neighbourhood not too long ago
the place really looks like a wasteland in the winter haha
There are some pretty nice areas in Waterbury. Waterbury is actually making a comeback. The pandemic drove people out of NY and into Waterbury because the houses are more affordable. So hopefully with the influx of new people and ideas, the city will start to start to come back to life a lot more.
People left NY to come to CT and brought there failed politics with them !
Wake up
Unless they're starting businesses or working remotely or otherwise are bringing money into the city the revival isn't going to last IMO
Best food come from Waterbury
I don't even recognize this city anymore. I'm glad I left.
I find this funny having moved to Philadelphia. This isn't a hood this is upscale compared to there.
Born and raised in waterbury moved 7 years ago it looks horrible
Igh, North Walnut can ligma bawls
the whole town is bad
No, it is not. There are many nice places in Waterbury.
Wrong, but thanks for playing.
@@angiealexis3717 Most parts west of the Naugatuck River are quite decent, as is much of the East End.
Lovely place to rise a family.
There are still some perfectly decent and safe neighborhoods in Waterbury. High taxes and generally mediocre schools are a drawback, but on the plus side houses are more reasonably priced than in more suburban communities.
Yup agree! same thing up here in Springfield mass where I’m at .. the city always gets sh$$t on but there are still some fine areas..
@@R32R38 Thank you and I agree. This just shows you only a few neighborhoods. There are nice places in Waterbury as well.
Just drove right by my house lol
I take it you from or grew up in the Dirtty Dirtty.. As so did I....
I love the downtown area in Waterbury and the Hancock Brook blue blazed hiking trail!
The homies must b cold day not out
I am trying live in ct where the best place to raise a family
Suffield, Somers, Simsbury, West Harford,
West Hartford, Vernon, Manchester, Windsor, East Windsor, Glastonbury, Middletown, East Hartford. Do some research
Not CT
Why not ct?
About buying houses and renting them out my father law is doing that in ct .
A yo you were at my street in my old neighborhood
He went next to PAL 😂😂😂
I know it's the winter but the city looks dirty
discrimination the title to this alone shame on you instead of video why don't you make a difference in the community shaming others is not cool
Maybe now you can video all the nice neighborhoods we have.
What nice neighborhoods? U have Willow St or Pine St right around the corner?
@@BigSi-xw6wv theres more than that genius
@@abbysmommy220 I lived there for 8 years the city is drier than a damn dog bone they don't plow they even took the seats from the bus riders. The city is a crime ridden dump and the only good areas are minutes from ghetto literally.
@@BigSi-xw6wv and I am currently living here going on 11 years. Crime isnt as big of a problem as you seem to think it is. There are plenty of good law abiding people living here. Ive never been mugged, or assaulted in any way while living here. My house have never been broken in to,my car never stolen or vandalized. Also there are cities in CT that are worse than Waterbury-Bridgeport being one I can easily think of. Hell new haven is worse than Waterbury.
@@abbysmommy220 , at least new haven has things to do..
Look like they get plenty of snow
Bank st where my lives west porter st all trashed out by drug dealers and messy parents and disrespectful child the european ppl had nice
If you want more cities like this keep voting for the radical left! MAGA!
No stupid. No.
@@abbysmommy220 Yes stupid yes... Waterbury used to be a high middle class city with manufacturers and booming small business. Kind of coincidence that as CT became more Democrat and Liberal all these cities that were once the wealthiest in the country are now the most dangerous Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford.
@@The_yeffy1 except the worst cities and states in the country are Republican run. Dont open your mouth if you dont know what you're talking about. You clearly have no idea and just wanted to bitch to push your own wrong opinions and agenda. Trump lost, get over it. That orange ball sack isnt president anymore.

I’m trying not to judge being from New Haven, but we all know Waterbury is just ratchet & raggedy. I haven’t been to Brass Mill in ages.
