Thank you!! Great information. I have a few questions re: almond milk kefir: 1) Does it matter if your glass jar is not filled to the top with almond milk? Will space at the top cause it to go bad sooner? 2) Is it bad if you don't use enough kefir grains (ie: less effective I mean)? 3) If you ferment in excess of 24 hours, say you do 48 hours...anything wrong with that? At what point will it go bad if you leave it unrefrigerated? 4) Do you have any resources you can share (books, podcasts, etc) with testimonials from people who have chronic health conditions that were cured drinking kefir?
You need space in the glass jar. 1. But no the space will not make it go bad. 2.if you dont have enough kefir grains fermentation could be a bit slower but not less effective. 3. I have left my kefir to ferment for 48hrs. I have never tried more then that. The best way is every 24hrs. If your leaving it longer the grains need more food (date paste) or they will die. 4 Donna Schwenk has all of that stuff she has been doing it way longer the I. If you google her You will find it. I have my testimony cures depression anxiety acne and cysta as well as gut problems. Eases pain. Makes you feel better all over. You will have to eat a healthy diet as well to get results!!
Hi! Thanks for this, I learned a lot! I'm currently making some Cannabis-infused Kefir!! Or I should say "trying" to make it. I'm using Kefir powder because I didn't know about the grains until you. Also, yours is the first vid to suggest simply straining it over your blender which is absolutely brilliant. I hate dishes so doing that gets rid of one chore AND it's more likely to encourage me to drink smoothies. I'm legal in Cda to grow my own plants and I just started using an organic fertilizer so I'll be including some leaves in that smoothie. Cheers!
Cannabis infused kefir....Omg my head just exploded! Sadly I don't live in a country where cannabis is legal (UK!!) But I am going to be on it when it is ;) What effects or benefits have you found or experienced with the cannabis infused kefir?
Hey! I really just wanted to prove that I could do it :) and in the end, it really held onto the herby taste! I know some people who love the taste of cannabis but I'm actually not one of them so I gave it to a friend. What I wondered is if the cannabis would deter the action of the kefir or encourage it. I dare say it encouraged it! I write about Cannabis for a living and there are so many studies going on already. For instance, stem cells are miraculous. In studies, when they add cannabinoids to the stem cells, they proliferate like they're on steroids. I also wonder if our gut bacteria have endocannabinoid systems the way we and all mammals do. The health benefits wouldn't likely be different in the kefir but it was one more way to get it in and get it workin' :) I think my friend added chives and used it like cream cheese! It had a real kick to it too he said. He uses cannabis for chronic pain and it did indeed relieve his pain and helped him sleep through the night as well. Bring on the worldwide legalization!

Inspired to get Kefir by your video so how does drinking kifir stop acne, do you change diet as well, my daughter suffers acne and has tried everything but keeps coming back
Kefir is a great place to start for acne. It will help get some good bacteria following in her gut. I'm not sure what your daughter is eating....but you have to make your gut healthy to get rid of acne and that usually means changing what you are eating. Your gut needs prebiotics(fruits and veggies)to feed the probiotics(the good bacteria).
I started with dairy kefir that took my acne away but it didnt do enough so I found out you could make almond milk kefir and bingo my face started clearing even more. I also stopped eating eggs. For me they were not good for my skin. And I ate a clean diet.
Get to the point comments are bazaar.why wouldn't they just hang up. I enjoyed the in depth explanation these are fact and information that makes us undetstand the benifits its very informative.
Thank you for your informative video. You are really a great person 🌹. However, I live in Saudi Arabia and I could not find Kefir anywhere. I am planning to buy Kefir online. Is it safe for Kefir to be delivered unrefrigerated to Saudi for 5 days. Thank you 🌹
I totally love your video's I went to sleep last evening watching you and when I woke up this morning, I turned my Ipad on and there you were again. I got my Kefir grain's this morning, and followed the directions, I ordered them from amazon, hopefuly they will work, directions said to check them in 8 hrs. so I'm a night owl anyway, I have them on my counter and the temp stay's at 72* ferinheight. hope that's enough, I have a plastic lid, but the directions said to use a coffee filter and rubber band. I may switch to the plastic lid. I did find some blueberry kefir milk at the store, I tried it, and it was a little tart, but I added some honey to it, if I had thought I would have made a smoothie with a banana in it. but I'm determined to get some grain's, if this don't work I will order from your suggestion's. thank's again for the great video and information. You need dates for nut milks because they do not have lactose. Lactose is the milk sugar that kefir grains eat so you need to put date paste or honey into the nut milk to give the grains something to eat. If they don’t have it they will not make probiotics and they will eventually die
I really enjoyed your video. I'm an only almond milk girl so this was interesting. Have to buy the almond paste. Can't wait to try to make my first batch ( jar) of kefir.
It definetly helped me with lactose intolerance. I forgot about my intolerance one day and ate some ice cream and thought oh no.... I am gonna bloat and be in so much pain for the next few hours.... but low and behold.... nothing. No bloating, no pain. Kefir really helps tolerate milk for who ever has lacrosse intolerance.
I'm already making milk kefir, (with Jersey and A2 milk). I'm thinking of buying some coconut water, then having a go with that. I might combine it with either Jersey or A2 milk. Then again, I may just use the coconut water on it's own ? Decisions, desicions
Robin Arden I have not tried any of those. Im not sure if the coconut water alone will work with the milk kefir grains. There is water kefir grains out there. If you try it let us know how it goes!! Its making me very curious!!
Do you use home made almond milk or purchase it? I usually make my own, and many times I don’t strain it because I use it mostly for smoothies. Would that create a problem? In other words, the almond milk might have some visible particles of almonds. I normally add maple syrup and vanilla, would that interfere with the production of kiefer? TIA
I purchase almond milk. I wouldnt strain it either. Almonds are good and it all just blends up so I think its fine!! As long as you are feeding the grains with dayes paste maple syrup or honey I think its fine. Im not sure about the vanilla its not really needed if you like it for the flavor then you could just add it to the smoothie and then it wont be in with your grains!!
Can I use sugar instead of date paste to make almond milk kefir? I just thought it is a lot of effort to make date paste every time. Or can the date paste last for a month or more in fridge?
Can you put almond milk kefir in refrigerator for awhile for when you need to take a break from it? I know you can refrigerate milk kefir for a time and bring out and start back up again. Do the grains multiply in almond milk kefir?
I made kefir from pasteurized milk and I got really bad brain fog and became tired. Any suggestions? I’ve struggled with IBS symptoms. Do you think almond milk kefir could be good?
What almond milk works for this? I mean I can make my homemade raw almond milk. I also have a nut milk maker. Or do I have to purchase almond milk from the store?
Hi, 1) instead of date paste, can l use organic brown sugar or molasses? 2) You mentioned kefir grains do not grow in almond milk but they will live for a while. Does that mean l always hv to get new grains from somewhere or how do l replenish the grains?
Hello! Im not sure. I have tired honey and that works! Never tired molasses but it seems like it would work. Kefir grains grow in dairy milk. Yes you would have to buy them or grow some of your own in dairy milk.
One more question how do u clean your jars and utensils I just started and have been using dish detergent to clean everything and rinse and rinse real well.Ty
Its possible that is may make them last longer. My grains stayed alive for almost a year before I have to switch them out. I never put them in dairy milk from time to time. If you do so let us know how that works out!!
Hi is the milk kifer good for people with high cholesterol and dose it make a person gain weight ?Is water kifer good for people with diabetics ? Thanks Martes
Kefirlady.com Or you can Google the kefir lady amd it will be the first thing that pops up. That's how I got my first ones. I think it was around $20 US
Hi I have a question where can I buy kefir I bought from Amazon and another person but whe I got them it wasn’t rubbery it was mushy and I really don’t like that please let me know where can I buy it thanks
Where can you buy kefir or kefir grains? You can find kefir in stores like Aldi and Walmart or health food stores! I have only purchased kefir grains from kefirlady.com
The use of data paste doesn’t that convert to alcohol when fermented? I thought all fermented fruits convert to alcohol. Why would anyone want to drink alcohol every day?
It is only 1 to 2 tsp of date paste. And the alcohol percent is very minimal when it comes to fermented fruits. Fermented foods are great for your body period.
I will make a video on that!! Take them out of the freezer set them on the counter when they are semi liquid dump everything in a cup of fresh milk cover and leavr for 24hrs. Then check and switch out the milk every 24 hrs until they start making kefir. Should take no more then a week for them to wake and start working.
Please do not try Ulta-pasturized milk or cream, it will not make Kefir. Please check with Donna before sharing, happy you are better and showing others how to start making Kefir. 💕
You can use them as long as they stay alive. I have had grains last as long as a year and then some only lasting 3 months. It just depends on the grains!!
I pour none homogenized organic milk in glass jar with previously washed kefir grains, And in about four hours my milk becomes stinky. The grains are in a nylon bag because they are small and I'm afraid I'll lose them. Do you have any suggestions what I'm doing wrong? Why my milk becomes stinky?
Юра Кориш Do you wash you kefir grains every time? If so I would stop washing they dont like being washed. Also as soon as they grow a little bit I would take them out the nylon bag. When you strain it put the nylon over the strainer so they wont go through.
I am not sure what that is exactly if it is a sugar that the grains can eat then I’m sure it will work. Not sure how long they will stay alive eating that sugar either.
I got my Kefir grains from amazon and started the Kefir Saturday at 5 pm , there wasn't much in the pk just looked like powder and a few small grains, looked like corn meal and powder. so I put them in 1 cup of milk, and put a coffee filter and secured it. I waited the 24 hrs like the directions said, so I strained it and there was only one grain, very small, so I put it in another cup of fresh milk, my temp is staying at 72* so now I am on my second day come Monday at 5pm. hopefully I will get more than one grain. I guess my question is will that one grain multiply into more??? if not then what should I do. I was sort of dissapointed when I opened the pk and saw more powder than grains, so will just take it one day at a time. should I have it at a higher temp? my house stay's at 72* unless I put it on top of the cabinet, any suggestion's.... thank's Nicky, if this doesn't work I will order from your lady friend.
When you are not making kefir you can store kefir grains in a refrigerator in sugar water for up to 2 weeks. For long-term storage, water kefir grains can be store in a freezer for up to 2 years. After freezing, kefir grain may take up to 4 batches before returning to original potency.
Vicky Ukrainets I have not heard of using powder goat milk before. But it wouldnt hurt to try it. If you do try it Let us know if it works!!!! Explore!
What makes my kefir watery? I have read where it will get creamy after 24 hours but mine is watery. Even after a second fermentation it is still watery.
@@DonECook-ob1hk I have never used goats milk. I know almond milk is watery. Cows milk is thicker like very thin yogurt. Has your goat milk kefir always been watery? Like since the beginning
@@LaurieEL I am relatively new at this but I started with organic cows milk as I couldn't find goats milk. I have watched many videos and goats milk seems to be the milk of choice. Next to sheeps milk it is most like human milk. I have second fermented almost every time but doesn't get creamy. Can't figure what's wrong.
Alex Ruiz-Vasquez you need the date paste for the nut milks. Kefir grains feed on the lactose (milk sugar) in dairy milk. So if you are using nut milk it does not have lactose so you need the date paste to feed the kefir grains so they can make the probiotics. The grains will die with nothing to eat.
Kombucha needs the air but kefir doesn't. You can use a coffee filter or cheese cloth if you wanted. I myself like the lids either way works just the same
@@LaurieEL I'm sorry for the confusion, just thought that because so many youtubes show the bottles being covered with a coffee filter instead of a lid, or some show a lid but say to not tighten completely.

Im not sure about videos on it in the future when I start making videos again I think I will be going in a different direction!! An over all wellness approach! We will see Thank you for watching
A wonderfully honest video, thank you! :D
Thank you 🌹
Love and Peace I am honestly not sure! I would think there has to be a way. But you would have to ask the person you are buying from!!🎀
You can buy Kefir here, they ship worldwide. Ask them any question you may have. www.nourishmeorganics.com.au/pages/contact-us
According to the story of Kefir , kefir is oringinally from arabian peninsula ; precisely , from a city called Al-Madina .
Nicky in Cold Michigan
Your very welcome Nicky! Let me know how your grains turn out! You will get used to the tart taste!!
@@LaurieEL I just want to be healthy, so the tart taste can be adjusted by fruit. smoothies will be my favorite, but I do intend to try to drink a little of the weigh, when I get started and make the Kefir cheese. great video on the almon milk. thakn's again
Great video but I have a? Why do you need to use dates
You need dates for nut milks because they do not have lactose. Lactose is the milk sugar that kefir grains eat so you need to put date paste or honey into the nut milk to give the grains something to eat. If they don’t have it they will not make probiotics and they will eventually die
I have the funniest looking thumbnails it cracks me up everytime!!!
How do make almond milk kefir pls
I really enjoyed your video. I'm an only almond milk girl so this was interesting. Have to buy the almond paste. Can't wait to try to make my first batch ( jar) of kefir.
Hello just a question I being using kefir grain with dairy milk and i was wondering if I can use the same kefir grain for almond milk . Thx
Marguerite Oliver yes you can it says so in the video!!
Can i mix two different milks ect almond and cows or goat and cows
Its making me very curious!!
bb, I won't be starting till Wednesday. (I'm out of bread man !) Get back to you after Wednesday. Over and out
Do you use home made almond milk or purchase it?
This was so helpful thank you! Where do you get your jars?
At Walmart ! They are Ball Mason jars they are in the canning section!
Yes you can put it in the refrigerator. And no they do not multiply in almond milk
@@LaurieEL thank you for your fast responses...love your video!
I made kefir from pasteurized milk and I got really bad brain fog and became tired. Any suggestions? I’ve struggled with IBS symptoms. Do you think almond milk kefir could be good?
Yes I think almond milk kefir is much better!!
I heard that if you use almond...or any.plant based milk that it would kill the grains...
What almond milk works for this? I mean I can make my homemade raw almond milk. I also have a nut milk maker. Or do I have to purchase almond milk from the store?
I just bought an unsweetened version from the store but Im sure what you make will work just fine its up to you!
@@LaurieEL Thank you. I will try with molasses later.
Btw, can l use full cream milk powder instead of fresh milk?
@@SeptLibra55 I am honestly not sure. About milk powder!! I have never used it.
@@LaurieEL Thanks anyway. Seems l would have to do my own experiment.
Why do you have to add the date past? Will it work without it?
Because it needs sugar to eat and almond doesnt have sugars like dairy milk does. So if you are using a nut milk you need date paste
One more question how do u clean your jars and utensils I just started and have been using dish detergent to clean everything and rinse and rinse real well.Ty
Regular dish soap is fine. Just rinse well like you are doing! You got it!
To much talk! It's a good tutorial but who has the time to hear to this loooong story, girl?!
Your personality is so adores! I kept cracking up.
After I make the cashew kefir should I put them in milk again so they don't die? How many time can you make nut milk kefir till the grains die?
I have used my grains in nut milk for a year maybe more before I changed them. Continue using the nut milk. It is not good to switch back and forth!!
Hi! When we make only almond Kefir must we put the Grains in a dairy milk from time to time or it's not nessesery?
Its possible that is may make them last longer. My grains stayed alive for almost a year before I have to switch them out. I never put them in dairy milk from time to time. If you do so let us know how that works out!!
Do you eat the keifer grains, like yogurt?
You dont eat the grains you use the grains to make the kefir! Only eat the kefir like yogurt and in a smoothie
Those the almond kefir have the same benefits and vitamins like regular milk kefir.
Just wondering if I can use the kefir grains I have normally used with dairy milk and now switching to almond milk instead to make kefir?
Yes you can thats what i did! They just need the date paste mixed in so they can eat to stay alive
Cut the time in half
Thank you for your tutorial
Hi is the milk kifer good for people with high cholesterol and dose it make a person gain weight ?Is water kifer good for people with diabetics ? Thanks Martes
Kefir is good for anyone and everyone!! Every gut needs probiotics!! Get them anyway you can!!
Also there has been no weight gain issues that I am aware of!
Are the milk Kefir grains eat the sugars from the date paste?
Peroooo las almendras no tienen muchos oxalatos ?
Have you ever tried mixing a little bit of dairy milk with almond milk just to keep the grains growing?
Nope… I didnt want to consume dairy. Mixing them defeats the purpose of making almond milk kefir!
Question for those who know notbing about kefir where do you get the kedir grains from?
Kefirlady.com
Or you can Google the kefir lady amd it will be the first thing that pops up. That's how I got my first ones. I think it was around $20 US
Can I use honey instead of date paste?
Yes!!
So do I have to feed the grains dairy milk after useing them in almond milk ?
I have never done that. I use them for about a year or so then I change them. I havent tried to feed them after changing there milk.
Awesome information thanx
Your welcome
You're welcome!!
Thank you!
How many batches of almond milk can you get out of the kefir grains?
I have used my kefir grains for up to a year it depends some don’t last as long!
awsome love it
Do you make your almond milk or is it store purchased in carton
Its from the store!
will this also work using oatmeal milk?
Im nit sure cause I haven’t tried it myself but I would think it would work!
@@LaurieEL Ive just used oat milk, So I'll report back to tell you how it went.
Thanks for the great video! You are great also!
Thank you so much!
Thank you!!
Great information
Can we use regular milk or should we find something better? Weird question.... Can it be made from buttermilk?
Im not sure on yhe buttermilk... i would have to research that. Cows milk goat milk and nut milks with added date paste or honey all work well!
the blu balloon Homogenized world work fine, right?
Almond milk starts at 19:40
Thankssss
Is it ok to buy the unsweetened brand then use the date paste ?
Yes that's what I do. And you would have to use date paste with sweetened as well. It's not as sweetened as it needs to be to feed the grains!
Can you use 2%milk for kefir
Yes! You can that is what I use in the video
how do you wake them up after freezing?
I will make a video on that!! Take them out of the freezer set them on the counter when they are semi liquid dump everything in a cup of fresh milk cover and leavr for 24hrs. Then check and switch out the milk every 24 hrs until they start making kefir. Should take no more then a week for them to wake and start working.
That's okay. You just explained it perfectly! Thank you! @@LaurieEL
great video
Please do not try Ulta-pasturized milk or cream, it will not make Kefir. Please check with Donna before sharing, happy you are better and showing others how to start making Kefir. 💕
Forgot to ask how many times I can use these milk grains in Almond milk?
You can use them as long as they stay alive. I have had grains last as long as a year and then some only lasting 3 months. It just depends on the grains!!
@@LaurieEL
Thank you
I pour none homogenized organic milk in glass jar with previously washed kefir grains, And in about four hours my milk becomes stinky.
Thank you very much:)
dairy milk processed or raw ?
Can I use sucanat instead of date paste?
I am not sure what that is exactly if it is a sugar that the grains can eat then I’m sure it will work. Not sure how long they will stay alive eating that sugar either.
Are these 1 gallon jars??
Yes not t sure about mason jars but there are gallon glass containers 😉
Did your grains end up multiplying properly?
Interesting info! Thanks
How do you freeze Kefir Grains?
I will be making that video shortly Keep an eye out for that!!!
When you are not making kefir you can store kefir grains in a refrigerator in sugar water for up to 2 weeks. For long-term storage, water kefir grains can be store in a freezer for up to 2 years. After
freezing, kefir grain may take up to 4 batches before returning to original potency.
Thanks
Can you use powder goat milk to make kefir
Vicky Ukrainets I have not heard of using powder goat milk before. But it wouldnt hurt to try it. If you do try it Let us know if it works!!!! Explore!
the blu balloon I really like your video :) so much good information. Thank you :)
Thank you for watching!!!
What makes my kefir watery? I have read where it will get creamy after 24 hours but mine is watery. Even after a second fermentation it is still watery.
What kind of milk do you use?
@@LaurieEL Pure unpasteurized goats milk.
Mine will thicken up after it is cooled
Do you really need the date paste? What does it do?
Alex Ruiz-Vasquez you need the date paste for the nut milks. Kefir grains feed on the lactose (milk sugar) in dairy milk. So if you are using nut milk it does not have lactose so you need the date paste to feed the kefir grains so they can make the probiotics. The grains will die with nothing to eat.
the blu balloon thank you for your response!
Just subscribed, thank you hun
What's the purpose of the date paste?
To feed the grains when using nut milk
If you dont use the date paste in the nut milk your grains will not get food and they will die
Can you use honey?
Very informative thank you ❤
How about kefir ice cream?
Sounds like it could be good! I have never explored it you will have to let me know!
Aren't you supposed to let air in and not tighten the plastic lid?
Kombucha needs the air but kefir doesn't. You can use a coffee filter or cheese cloth if you wanted. I myself like the lids either way works just the same
@@LaurieEL I'm sorry for the confusion, just thought that because so many youtubes show the bottles being covered with a coffee filter instead of a lid, or some show a lid but say to not tighten completely.
love it
