Honey is antibacterial, effects kefir That's why I clabber my milk. Personally I feel clabbered milk has better bacteria than kefir. I asked a professional fermentation company and this is what they said. "You're absolutely right that honey has natural antimicrobial properties, which can sometimes interfere with fermentation, especially with more delicate cultures like kefir. However, clabbering milk is a bit different! Clabber relies on naturally occurring bacteria in the milk itself (and your environment) to ferment, so it's typically more resilient than something like kefir, which depends on specific strains. If you've been adding honey and achieving consistent results without issues, it's a great sign that the natural balance in your milk is thriving despite the honey's properties. As with any fermentation experiment, it's always good to trust your senses-if the clabber smells or tastes off, that might be a signal to adjust. Otherwise, if it’s working and you love the flavor, it sounds like you’ve found a winning method! Keep enjoying your delicious, honey-sweetened clabber, and happy fermenting!"

Thanks. I was given kefir grains a few days ago and was wondering what will i do will the excess grains that grow. This has helped me understand what to do with them not only for my own use, but if I want to gift some. I might put mine in glass jars though as im trying to eliminate plastics from my life.

Worked: covered 1 tablespoon of kefir grains with 1 cup of 2% pasteurized milk (could have been less! / at least enough to submerge the kefir grains), placed in freezer, waited 5 months, moved from freezer to fridge, thawed for 24 hours, strained kefir for the grains, placed thawed kefir grains + milk combination in milk (which was also frozen at exactly the same time and underwent the same thawing process!), left kefir grains + new milk combination at room temperature for 24 hours, repeated previous 2 steps (strain; kefir grains + new milk) for 3 days, got over-fermented beautifully thick kefir: the grains are alive!!! And the kefir seems to be healing my autoimmune gut disease!? Thank you, Laurie; you are awesome!
I think you are doing it exactly right. I did the same following my own intuition and keeping it 3 years in the freezer. The only thing is that I washed the grains with water and dried the excess waters with paper towel. Also I made sure there is at least one third of free space in the glass jar. It was defrosted by thaw in the fridge over night and after changing milk every day for 3 days it started to make perfect kefir yogurt.
Can you consume the milk that you have been “waking” the grain up with? Or do you discard all that? 🤔I don’t want to throw away what doesn’t need to be thrown away…?

How long do your kefir grains last in your non-dairy milk when you add date paste? Also what non dairy milk do you use? Finally, do you buy kefir grains that were first grown in cow's milk? Thank you

Lol, you said unthaw, that means to freeze! Thaw means to unfreeze! I laugh because I said the same thing for years , until my husband broke me of it! Great video, just had to poke fun!

Isn’t there a ratio to how much milk and Kiefer ..do I still drink the milk even if runny.
It really depends on your grains 1tbsp of grains will work with 1Cup of milk and the more they are used the stronger they will get as long as your feeding them enough. That is up to you on drinking it the consistency of dairy kefir is like a yogurt drink and almond milk kefir doesn’t thicken at all. Hope this helps you thank you
How long can I keep them in the freezer, before thawing/using again? I used to make kefir a few years ago daily until someone dropped both my kefir jars on the floor and broke them. Since it was during covid time, I did not bother buying new kefir grains. But I want to start again now!

Actually Eric P the sauerkraut juice is good bacteria that will neutralize/kill the bad. So if you drink it you will be helping to get rid of the bad stuff!! Whats that saying don’t knock it till you try it?… wonder mom out!!!yasshole😎
We are talking about Bacteria and Yeast. The only way to kill them is to cook or burn them. You can leave them in the fridge or freezer, dry, with water or with milk, they will survive for years, and eventually come back to make fresh Kefir.

Which sauerkraut juice was used?
The brand is vlasic but you can use most any sauerkraut juice the jar is easier to get the juice out!!
Those the almond kefir have the same benefits and vitamins like regular milk kefir.

I think you mean to thaw it. Unthaw means you are re-freezing it
I'm now throwing up water. I can't stand up long before I need to lay back down.
My stomach was hurting at night like 8pm then I got the the bathroom to do the thing you normally do when you're stomach aches but then after that my stomach still hurts so I drank hot water ang massaged my stomach after that I tried to sleep which did work but then I worked up at 5am and I felt like I need to throw up and I did but my stomach did not hurt anymore , after I throw up few seconds ang my stomach is starting to hurt again but not as much like the night and now it's 8am and I'm still sick.🙂
