All these people complaining that this was sexist is ridiculous. Everyone here deserved to be cut because they should never have gotten into acting. They put these people in the cockpit and gave them a fair shot - they blew it.

+Jeffrey Wallette Are you serious? They're basically redshirts with lines. What are you expecting, Shakespeare? The actual nameless pilots that made it into in the battle scenes in the movie weren't any better.
I'm pretty sure Lucas just picked the pilots and scene-takes to pick at random, and it only turned out to be mostly males because the proportion that auditioned was mostly male.

they would never have used the actual live vocal take anyway; there's too much background noise of the machinery of the cockpit prop. The actual delivery doesnt, and never, mattered.

It is a testament to George Lucas' vision that this black and white footage looks exactly like footage taken during WWII of fighter pilots. No wonder when people saw star wars in 1977 it looked so convincing to them. Never before had a science fiction film been created with such realism.

    • @BackyardPix

They supposedly did that because George Lucas wanted all of the Rebels to have "American" accents but all the Imperials to have British accents. But it was cheaper to shoot with local extras, and these scenes were shot in the UK, so they had a bunch of local British talent and crew fill in as extras. So once shots like these were filmed George Lucas had all the British Rebels redubbed with performances by actors with USA accents.

shame at 6:04 they didn`t put them scenes with the characters of Colonel Airen Cracken and Lieutenant Blount in the Gunners seats and but we did see them in cockpit with General Lando Calrissian and co-pilot navigator Sullustan, Nien Nunb, what I did see in them scenes they had few other rebel crew members aboard to help if the Millennium Falcon was damaged, shame they did add that into the movie that would have been great,

very poor direction from the guy on the loudspeaker. I know they had to quickfire those lines, but still they barely give the actors enough time to emote the feeling or situation for each one theyve set up such a fast pace for running through their list.

I was thinking more of those Soviet WW2 era snipers. Western women have been spoiled ever since they were allowed to vote, but it all started in the 18th century anyway. Right now, we have nothing but tumblrinas aging disgracefully into crazy cat ladies with dyed hair whose real comfort is seeing works of fiction depict women they way they wish they could really be. (Because it's easier, and you don't have to actually put your life on the line to feel good over make-believe.)

B-Wing pilots and Millenium Falcon's gunners could be easily introducen on a new edition with new CGI scenes of the battle of Endor. And so they could take advantage to correct the failures in the denominations of the pilots that take place throughout the battle.
