Fantastic vid Rob. This is how the vast majority of my cars are treated. I can't afford the new stuff and with a little work the old 80's and 90's cars are great. Well done.
I love how you show us guys how you chop up the chassis. You just make it look so nice and I love how you do the electronics also where you use plugs to hook everything up nice and neat
Excellent restoration, Rob. I wholeheartedly endorse your 'less is more' approach to restyling the bodywork. It makes a refreshing change from all the intricate and busy liveries we find with today's GT3s and allows us to focus more on the shape and lines of the model. I wouldn't have the focus or potential to see what you have seen in this project but I am nevertheless a huge fan of what you can do for this fun little hobby.
Whether or not the car is now a world beater is irrelevant. The improvement in handling, making it easier to drive is sufficient reason enough for doing the work that you did. Quite apart from that, you obviously enjoy the challenges involved in upgrading these older slotcars. A job well done.
Awesome! My all time favoritte slotcar. Have a bunch of them in all colours. This is brilliant. Thanx for the Great content & new ideas to improve this legendary Scalextric car. Regards from Norway 🇳🇴
Curious as to what time a bone stock lubed REVO Ferrari would be. Also, did you say you made the case? A vid on that would be awesome. Cases ive found for purchase arent cheap$$$. Nice build.
Hello Scott, if you'd like to send one over to me, I'd be glad to run it, post the run and return it to you 🙂 I bet it would be around 49sec. Sorry, words are difficult when recording for me, I meant I made a back card for a new case.
You’re welcome Swiss slots thank you so much for teaching us guys. You’re incredible really and you do great lathe work to also awesome machinist have a great weekend,Bro!
I enjoyed every minute of this video. One car I have which keeps hiding at the back of the job-list-pile is a Scaley XJ220 which would also benefit from the same process you've gone through with this F40.
Yes, I have an XJ220 waiting in the wings to have the same job, it came with the same challenge set as this F40, but a full paint job as well, coming very soon 🙂
@@modelracecar Don't hold it for too long, I have a 3 part series starting this Friday first. The JX was going to be next, but events have overtaken me.
That’s an awesome build, I still have my original F40 which is in perfect running order, I bought it in 88/89 I think from the model show in Olympia, this video makes me want to add a few more details and tweak it to run better. Excellent work. Do you ever sell any of your projects or take on custom work for other people?
I do not sell my TH-cam projects and I have been asked to take on projects, but sadly people don't understand time is money, and there is a lot of time in custom hand work. eg, this car took me 2 days to do, so that's two whole days of labour. People never ask them selfs 'how much do I earn in two days, would Rob want to work for me for less?' So I would be interested in doing small quick jobs, but it would have to be worth my time.
That car looks beautiful!!! Nice work! Thank you for sharing! I love how you modified the front light panel,I've tried this and failed miserably lol. Where did you find replacement mirrors? It's hard to find these on the other side of the pond? Your skills are impressive!!!!
Hi rob, amazing work. I might do the same with an old scaletrics Ferrari f40 but it doesn’t have a rally livery. I have lots of unboxed slot cars and I really want to get boxes for them but I can’t find anywhere where I can get them. Where do you get your and what do you use to make the background ??
I did put out a shout out on a slot forum, but got nothing back, so I now buy my boxes from a large slot car retailer. The back cards are simply what I find on Google images after punching in some related words to the project, then adjusted a little on a simple art program and printed out. Thanks man 😊
I find any car can be fast if tuned correctly with better parts. I have a Scx Mclaren F1 race tuned with a slot it motor. Lap times are identical to my NSR F1 on a large track .Scaletric fast motors are not fast.
Fantastic vid Rob. This is how the vast majority of my cars are treated. I can't afford the new stuff and with a little work the old 80's and 90's cars are great. Well done.
Yes, it's amazing how good the old stuff can be with a little work, sod paying £80-90 these days !! Thanks 🙂
Agree you don't need to do loads to make them go well, mainly decent running gear, tyres and a guide.

What a finish on that red plastic!!!!!! WOW. Great video as always Rob
I was amazed at the deep finish. Thanks.
You can tune a slotcar and you can tuuuuuuuuune a slotcar. Thank you for this.❤

Thank you very much 🥰
Excellent work.

Stunning finish 👍
Yes, it's hard to beat 2k, although once you get the hang of Mr Color 112, Mr Color is very close, but more work and not as hard.
This is awesome!

Mind blowing, how do you take your lathe and you use it as a press the press the shaft in that is so cool man you are the man

Thanks Man, the mirrors are all over Ebay and Pendle Slot sell them, they are 'type 5' mirrors :-)

Exactly, so if any car can be made much better, so why buy new £80 cars. I find it more fun to make old crusty cars go like hell 😀
