Hi Andrew, thank you so much for putting together your videos, that is helping a lot. It allowed me to get the max of the équipements I already owned. I’ve integrated an old console, patch panel and pre-wired all my guitar amps. Long story short, my amps are stored in the amp room, connections are this way : Amp room > 8-ports snake > Patch panel Now with 1-2 connections, I can send the signal from my guitar/bass to the amp of choice, without changing anything, the signal gets back from the mic > console > interface. Everything is managed in the patch panel. Also, as I’m connecting the guitar in the patch panel, I can take a copy of the signal and routing it to an interface input (with the half-normal feature). So easy !
Great video Andrew....great approach! The Ox Box sounds great....I feel any subtle difference between Ox Box and miked cab would be insignificant in a mix.
Great video Andy. Thanks for sharing. Great fan of your work. Quick question: how do you integrate the Ox with an External preamp? Heard you are using mono. Are you using just a cable to the DI input? Ts or TRS cable (manual says support both) Are you using and external DI from the Ox the the pre? I have a similar setup and struggling to get a nice tone from the Ox. Cheers from Uruguay!
Similar method for me. My only diff is that my amp cab is an IR loader on the PC rather than an OX (my main recording amp is a custom built amp with a dummy load switch and line out - cross between Deluxe and Matchless with variable biasing and power)...yes, I have to watch latency, but with TB3 and RME running at a buffer of 64 - no issues.
Great video, I am trying to do something similar in my home studio, so this is very inspirational! One question: how to you split the DI signal when traking so that one side goes to the pedalboard and the other side directly to the DAW? And before reaching the DAW is the DI going through some DI box? I am still not sure on how to do it properly and reduce noises...
Nice setup! If you have the cabs mic’d in a different room, what does the Ox give you? Do those cabs bleed a little even though they’re placed elsewhere? I’ve got an Ox too, and every guitarist friend I have comments on how good my guitar sounds. I’d love to use real cabs in another room, but I don’t have the space.
It's a great tool for writing, and multitracking to avoid cab bleed if you don't have isolation. It also can just sound rad on it's own. I've used it for years and sometimes the thing just works great as is. But anytime I've grabbed the guitar DI and re-amped cabs later.. it's always beat the original.
When you multi-mic guitar cabs do you always use two preamps? Have you ever tried a Radial Mix 2:1 or similar to passively sum mics or preamps to print a blend? Or do you record both mics individually and blend to taste later? Multi mic on single source workflows have always been a curiosity to me but it's a resource hog. What's your practice?
Yeah I am a preamp hoarder so I tent to separate them but I’ve used y cables before that combine the signal.. it’s been a while and I don’t personally own any but that is a good solution, as long as you love the blend exactly how it’s coming in.
@@itsstudiotime the radial mix 2:1 is a little passive mixer with mute switches and polarity flip so it's possible to get the desired blend of 2 mics or preamps compared to a Y cable. It's awesome to have tons of preamps and inputs but you could have even more multi mic options on hand using mic summing. One caveat is that phantom power won't work with a passive mixer in-line.
I have a similar setup but find I still have to manually switch the fx loops on the amps. Are you using fx loops or just all the pedals in front of the amp?
People joke a lot about GAS, but content like your video is literally ruining people financially. You have an ethical responsibility to your fans that is being colored by your arrangement with Sweetwater. th-cam.com/video/15HFDj4Eehg/w-d-xo.html
Dang, you hit me with an "ewww" lol My kind of guy. What are you talking about? Pickups? Studio gear is my shit not guitar gear - this video is about the system of the rig but if something sucks here i'd like to know.
The game changer there is really having the perfect cabinet to make all those heads and switcher look clean *chef's kiss*

Adopting this as I finish my final touches on the new space! I was also curious what amps you had likely used in our song. Really cool.
Yeah! that record had 3 different amps all with different mic setups. That was a fun weekend.
Sounds massive! @@itsstudiotime
New gold standard just dropped. Killer setup. I think the workflow is perfect. Awesome job, dude.
Appreciate you!
Love your videos! So many great ideas to apply in my workflow. Keep it up.

The ox certainly can work and is on tons of records.

Thank you this is great. Do you recommend the api channel strip or just the api mic pre’s? How about a tg2?
I think any of those would be fantastic

Nah all the pedals are up front.
Surferblood sound check!
It's pure nostalgia, takes me back to my LA days.
Love your studio and the videos, but I think you need a Marshall. 😁 It never ends, does it?
I knowwww
did we ever find out what happened with that big open basement build?
It was a fantastic build but the partnership didn’t work sadly.
@@itsstudiotime bummer! at least we get more studio setup content outta the situation👌🏼
So basically if you drop a lot of money on gear you can have your same setup...
I don’t think he said it was on a budget.
So question -- who is this video for? You are talking about tens of thousands of dollars of pro-level gear, but the info is super-remedial and basic.
Anyone who clicks on it and enjoys it.
Andrew, mission accomplished. Loved the video!
Thanks Daniel!

Probably people setting up a studio and wanting to know an example of someone’s workflow. This gear isn’t a requirement for any of this.
ewww.
you probs play the p770 don't ya? or the p790?
honestly... get a set of t100 and you can thanks me later.
peace.
