I absolutely love my custom printed Dactyl Manuform keyboard that I printed out in carbon fiber pla and candy apple red. I use it every day for work and now I can't live without it. Super fun printing and electronics project and I even got some other friends of mine wanting to have me print them cases so they can make their own keyboards.
Today I learned that the guy who inspired me to build a Voron is the SAME GUY that inspired me to buy a DaVinci 1.0 in 2014! I didn't even realize until I saw that old clip in the beginning. Awesome dedication man!

My favorite functional part (I have built) is a boat throttle handle that I could not buy a replacement for. Tried PLA first..worked about a week before it melted (in sun) enough to not work. Then learned about PETG...bought roll of it and tried same print. Fantastic...has been on boat more than a year (outside) and still works.
Nice project! I too like practical prints. That's not just any clock from Mechanistic. It's a clock with a tourbillon mechanism (originally developed to counter the effects of gravity on a clock's timing). A tourbillon is one of the most complex bits of watch escapement ever. Tourbillon watches typically cost tens of thousands of dollars and the mechanisms are exposed to show off the skill of the watch maker (and the wealth of the buyer). There were a few people trying to make 3D printable tourbillon mechanisms for several years. I believe TheGoofy was the first to do it, but still it's a feat of engineering.
I like these style videos. As for my favorite project. I'd have to say either the Soldering Fume Extractor or the Resin Vat and Funnel Stand that I designed and put on my Cult3D page (same as my TH-cam name). I'm looking forward to seeing your other project you mentioned.
I have an Ender 3 Pro, slightly modded and would love to get more into the functional printing as well. A video showcasing some of the submitted functional prints would be a great follow on video to this one. I'm sure there are many different things that can be printed to assist in everyday living and would look forward to seeing what others have designed\printed.
Jeremy, I would have to agree with you. I like seeing other people's ideas for functional prints as well. I do all my own designs. But it is still cool to see how other solve a similar problem. I have several items on my Cults3D page under the same name as my TH-cam.
Lol I still have it and it’s just in its original box which isn’t the most fun to constantly open. I have been meaning to make a pegboard mount. I often tell my self “you have a screw driver for this” 😂. Some of the parts are a bit to much torque but generally it would be saving my hand/wrist.
I plan on using it primarily hardwired for streams but thats kind of a genius idea. Have that counterweight easier to open and through batteries equal the weight needed in there for a long wireless session.

My kids broke it😂 Could I take the direct drive hot end and put it on a Neptune 2s? Also I might print this jib for some TH-cam videos I am doing for Practical Machinist. Thanks for your help!
Also, I use my 3d printers for my machine shop. Mostly for different size bushings for my CNC lathe so I can hold different size bars. But also containers, tool jigs, vise jaws for plastic parts, ect. Love functional printing!
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. And yeah you totally good if you are willing to do some modding. They should both be 24v systems so the main thing you would have to do is remove the breakout board on the X1. If you extend the wires so they have enough distance to make it to the board it shouldnt be a terrible swap. The main things other than wiring would be mounting. The X1 has a 2040 for the x carriage while the 2s uses a 2020 extrusion. Once mounted and wired just updating e-steps for the extruder and you should be good to go. Totally dooable depending on how comfortable you feel with the modding!

I blame the creator of it haha. Also, there are a few parts that need very tight tolerances. He has a few options for parts and has small sample parts to print so that you can decide what is best for your printer.

I guess because it is going to be used for my stream my idea of it working is being able to set it a way and have it stay. If you do plan on using it for motion shots then I can see the interest. Perhaps I can try to incorporate some shots off of it in another video. It will be stationary for when I use it other than adjusting for a different angle.

Unfortunately, thingiverse won’t die because people refuse to use better websites/ services for some reason. I think Thangs is inadvertently helping Thingiverse by showing external models in their results. If you don’t turn off the “external”, a search on Thangs shows more Thingiverse models than ones actually posted on Thangs.
Yeah Thangs defaults to best search results even if it is not on their site. Thingiverse was such a candyland for me when I first started printing. It is sad to see what it has become.
for something that cost 1000$/hour to make in the first place you have to sell it much less more for 40$ that 10$. Its not some cheap gimmick people buy with take my money memes like nothing
This is stupid spent of time and money. Get an 1-3 meter rod made of aluminium, and make it faster cheaper and better. No need to print parts which can be replaced with more simple, cheaper and more solid materials.

Which fume extractor did you go with? Have you seen the themed ones? There is a super cool Kirby one.

That thing is pretty sweet. Wonder if you could make a slight mod for a V Mount battery as your counterweight. Record for days.

I stopped listening/watching when I learned this was an .stl that had to be purchased.
