  • If you're finding water ingress to the interior of your VW Golf convertible, this video might help you resolve the issue. Underneath the car, in line with the rear window, there is a rectangular seal which apparently prohibits draining of water from inside the car. We pierced this rubber seal to allow draining.

Brilliant. Had my car totally stripped out by VW to find the leak, because the amount of water held in the body resulted in wet footwells. They dried it out but couldn’t find it !! Two days ago I heard water splashing about again and remembered this video. Took it to VW and shown them the video and they pierced the seals and the water poured out. THANK YOU. Problem solved.

Been having water in my car for months now. I just did this and my car has been draining for about 25 minutes and still going! Thanks so much

Yeah, ditto. My VW dealer said about 2 litres came out of one side!

Congratulations guys in finding this. I took our 2013 Cab back to the VW dealer due to wet carpets and they had it stripped out for two weeks. Told us they had fixed it but no. Back to the dealer 2 months later for another week where they eventually found the problem with the same box section drain hole you have shown. Unfortunately this fix had not been published then.
Clearing this drain hole together with the roof drains should be published as part of regular maintenance IMO.
(Dont get me started on X5 sunroof drains, which if blocked can write off your car by destroying all the CCU's and electrical control gear in the boot well! - THE most stupid thing i have ever witnessed in car design)

Thanks a lot guys, I didn't notice there was 2 rows of those rubber seals. I've purged it and now I only ear the gasoline sloshing from the tank. Great video, the only one really showing what how to get rid of this issue. Have the best day !
