Multi-instrumentalist for band here! Made me so happy watching this! Never really paid attention to Sora as a talent (I'm new to Hololive so there are a lot of talents I don't know) but I'm for sure going to watch her more now.
I really love it whenever Sora-Chan shares her deep knowledge about classical music and its instruments! And poor Polka... Being absolutely mind broken by the deceptive difficulty of the humble trumpet...
I looked up tuba's, and I see that Polka is thinking of either the helicon or sousaphone. Both horns are members of the tuba family. Other tuba's don't wrap around the tubist. I learned something today!! And now you did too!! :D
I'm pretty sure Polka was referring to the Sousaphone. There's just no Japanese word for it,so it's why the girls just call it a Tuba. There is a *romanized* word for it,which is "suzafon",but that's it.
To play trombone, trumpet, tuba, etc., your just buzzing your lips in a certain way. The mouthpiece just directs, shapes, and condenses the air coming out of your mouth as it flows into the instrument. Anyway, fun clip, thanks!
Sora says had a hard time with the clarinet as she couldn't handle the breath yet the trumpet.... no problem. yet that one is much harder to learn. Flute is easier, but clarinet and sax are pretty easy as you don't make sounds the reed does that for you.
I hate how the first thing I though of hearing "euphonium" was "oh hey, it's that anime I keep hearing about" and not "wait, that's an instrument name?"
5:47 I was part of a marching band at school before. Don't know how to follow notes, so, I just went with the rhythm, and it surprisingly works. lol. I use the 4 drums back then. IIRC. we call it "quadro".
As a woodwind player back then, I'd say the opposite that clarinets and sax are easier to play because the shape of your mouth is more straightforward when you blow air. You don't have to worry about the mouth shape as much when doing higher and lower notes.

But the more I watch her clips like when she is in gta or when she banter with Polka, the more charming she becomes! Now I wonder whether she has played an instrument on stream before.
Isnt that called a sousaphone? The marching band version of a tuba? Like isnt it suppose to project sound more than a regular tuba or something? I dont know anything about band as I was a stings kid in school.
