Just bought a falcon ute last weekend and noticed it is leaking at the green plug on this power steering line. Cheers for the video really cleared up what I need to do to fix this issue.
Excellent Vid, Very well explained. Thank you. My brother and I watched your other vid to fiix my leaking power steering which just needing tightening up and flushed,
@@FordMercGuy And as we know but rarely do... removal of items is easier when you have space, but something in our head says we are not going to knock out knuckles this time...
Took me way longer than it should to do this a few months ago, the proprietary ford fitting is quite weird. Good idea spinning that pulley to purge as much air as possible. Could you perhaps magiver a drill attachment (or attach a pulley on an extension) to spin the powersteering pulley a bit faster?
Especially that fitting under the reservoir. Pain in the ass position. Thinking about it, maybe using a pen or something rigid and using that to spin the pulley would work quicker.
You said to make sure it is a 2 or 3 bend hose how do you determine that when looking at what you had i saw more than 3 bends?? Also wouldn't it have been easier to remove the reservoir and attach the hose then while it is out?
Hi mate, google image search "2 Bend 3 bend hose ba falcon power steering" you'll see some pictures labelling rack end 2 Bend or 3 bend. Yes that's a great idea, would take a little more time but would certainly be easier.
i had to replace mine, followed your other video to replace the o ring but nothing would work 🤣 didn't need to drain any fluid cos everytime i started the car to check if it was leaking it just pissed everywhere 😂 bet that was good for the alternator haha
Sounds like you've been through the wars mate 😂😂 yeah I'm sure the alternator would have loved the oily treats 😜 Certainly a pain in the setup and design of the power steering location that's for sure
I generally do some without running engine, and then some more turns with engine running. But making sure wheels are fully off the ground. I'm not a mechanic. Consulting a Haynes manual or mechanic would be most ideal 👊
My dad's 2006 Rtv ute is still leaking taking to a different mechanic this time and i won't be wiping a way any excess power steering fluid. Because last time the mechanic blamed me for having the engine bay too clean and he couldn't see any leaks. SO we will see! 🤞
Get your VIN number to the spare parts system in one of these stores and see what's listed. Maybe a similar 2 or 3 bend for the fg. Count them/take reference photos for when you go in to compare to the listing's
Yep, same problem with our 2010 FG XT. I’m gonna be checking and re-checking on the phone + get actual photos verified with mechi friend, because apparently the hose for “FG2” after Jul 2011 is NOT the same as models produced up to June 2011! Not cheap either - $300 for aftermarket part. Good luck.
Thanks for your excellent videos. They’re detailed but easy enough for beginners like me. Anything FG related would be great. Even if part of a BA/BF video. Thanks again.
I got this one ordered in at Supercheap Auto mate. And remember you need to go under your car and have a look to see if your car has the 2 or 3 bend version fitted and order that same style. Cheers
Hi mate unfortunately I'm not sure however this hose wasn't an exact match to the original BA hose that I removed out of this car. So I wonder if this was actually meant for a BF

No dramas mate. Super glad the video could be of help
Thanks mate just what I was looking for
Perfect mate. Glad to hear it!

Many thanks!! Glad to hear the videos could be of help. Also great to hear of your success on the power steering leak.
As you take off the belt, you can also take off the power steering pump, and then you have better access to the reinstall.
That's it! All depending how patient you are for removal/re-install

When turning the wheel left to right to bleed was the engine running?

Good luck mate certainly can be difficult trying to remedy the leak in this area with many old and perishing O-rings
Where did you buy the replacement power steering hose from
From Supercheap Auto special order in. But any major auto parts store like Autobarn and Repco should be able to order it in as well
Thanks mate, I just looked at mine i have an fg and my hose is completely different. At.the power steering rack connection

Great vid! I was just quoted 1050$ to have it replaced. Is this reasonable?
Sounds quite pricey
Is the BA hose the same as a BF?
Hi mate unfortunately I'm not sure however this hose wasn't an exact match to the original BA hose that I removed out of this car. So I wonder if this was actually meant for a BF
Thanks, that was awesome!
Cheers mate. Much appreciated
