    Thanks so much for the video, Mike! I just successfully installed one! This video walked me through the whole thing. I did look up a precise bolt pattern for tightening the bolts which one can find a diagram via a search and I also found the the bolts should be tightened to 71 INCH LBS. One additional tidbit I did for anyone reading this, as I followed the bolt pattern and tightened to 71 inch lbs I used a sharpie marker to mark each bolt completed so I didn’t get confused about which ones I had already done. Many of your videos have helped me in the past, thanks again, Mike!

    I just wanted to say thanks for making an actual informative part replacement video. I usually watch these videos to remind myself of proper procedure when performing a part replacement and to cheat a little on what tools to bring along to the job. Too many times lately I have watched a video where they fail to mention the sizes of the tools they use or just do a cutaway and the part is removed. Thanks for showing clearly where the clips are located and how you made your job easier!

    If your PCV system fails you have to do more than just replace the valve cover. You also have to replace the intake manifold check valve. Or put in a pcv manifold fix kit. OR replace your manifold with Dorman intake manifold. Either way if you only replace your valve cover the pcv diaphragm will rupture again if you dont also fix the manifold. Because the manifold is what causes the problem

    • @calholli
      @calholli 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just plugged that little square hole on the PCV with contact glue and a plug. Then I drilled a hole on the other end of the cover, near the timing chain and put in a simple Honda PCV. You can get them on ebay for $5 and the come with a rubber grommet. Or you could get a Toyota PCV that is metal and threads in.. Neither of these should break like that flimsy GM diaphragm junk.

    Another great video Mike! I just did this repair today. My gasket started leaking a few weeks ago and my PCV valve went a couple days ago. Had some trouble finding this part and had trouble removing the existing valve cover. It was on there for over 100,000 miles but I used a razor blade and started cutting the old gasket. Probably not recommended but desperate times call for desperate measures. Thanks so much for the video and your help. I just hope my check engine light doesn't come back on.

    Thank you! 168,000 miles, and it finally did this to me. I thought it was the fuel injectors, since it threw a “lean fuel” code on me, but got this replaced and all the codes went away! I’m not sure what the car market is going to look like in the next year or two, but I’m taking care of this car as much as I can. I will be doing the V3 PCV valve bypass as mentioned in other video comments. We’ll see how it goes.
    P.S. I have a 2014 Manual Chevrolet Cruze that has mainly used highway miles. Oil change every 5K miles (done by myself) because of the turbo and me being paranoid about it. Anyway, we’ll see how long this car lasts me. My other vehicle is a 1998 Acura Integra with 240,000 miles still going strong- also take care of it religiously. Thanks for coming to my ted-talk.

    Good instructional video on replacing the valve/cam cover with the regulator. The video doesn’t address the root cause problem(air intake PCV valve failure).
    The valve cover regulator fails because of excess pressure is present. On these 1.4L engines the air intake has a PCV valve that fails. If this valve isn’t fixed, the valve cover regulator will fail again.

    Good tutorial bud. I've watched a few others and its amazing that they missed the gasket sealant application. Guess they'll be remaking their videos huh? LOL. The only thing I see that differs from what the Haynes manual says is applying oil to the new gasket. The manual says to "wipe off all residue and gasket material from the sealing surfaces". In my 59 years, the only time I applied oil to a gasket was when changing out an oil filter. And that was to make the gasket more flexible to the mating surface, per manufacturers recommendations. If you apply oil to this gasket, you may have a potential breech for an oil leak.

      Thanks for the reply. Regarding the application of oil onto the gasket...Some do some don’t. This helps properly seat gasket to mating surfaces.

      The only part of the valve cover that needs sealant is the gap from the block to the timing cover. Service recommends a clean dry surface for the gasket. There is a double line on that gasket that adds a sealing layer to the gasket. One huge problem I had at around 120k miles is the gasket became brittle and failed in several places.

    I just finished this part replacement today. This video was great and very helpful. I wanted to share a few difficulties I ran in to in case one of your viewers has a similar issue.
    #1 When I removed the coil pack, three of the four rubber boots stayed on the spark plugs. I was able to remove two of them but the third ripped. Fortunately, my local O'Reiley's sells individual coil boots.
    #2 I had difficulty removing the valve cover. I made sure all the bolts were loose and that everything clipped to it had been removed but it wouldn't budge. My car has 81K on it and this part replacement has never been done so I'm sure that was at least part of the reason. I tried tapping it lightly with a hammer, tugging on it from various sides, but nothing worked. Finally, I noticed that there is a small gap at the center end (driver's side) between the bottom of the valve cover and the top of the head - just enough to fit a medium size screwdriver in. I put the screwdriver in and used the gap point as leverage and the valve cover came off. The gasket was completely flat and hard as a rock so I"m sure it was stuck from age and many many heat cycles.
    I put everything back together and my Cruze is running great!

    GM sent me a notice that the PCV valve on my 2011 Cruze was defective and that if I had the valve cover, which has a new valve in it, replaced I was entitled to a refund. I sent them a copy of the invoice and have received a check for $188.61. That part that you pointed out on the valve cover is an idle air valve. My valve cover was also leaking oil, which I suspect was cause by the bad PCV valve.

    The valve cover is a temporary fix. It should last 10-20k miles. The actual valve is in the Intake manifold. If the hole is whistling on your valve cover you'll need to do further repairs. BTW that clicking noise after your fix is also an indication of a vacuum problem. Check out cruze kits. They have several versions of the actual fix. They also have several videos on youtube showing what and how to fix your 1.4l chevy turbo. I had to buy a new intake and turbo hose. The turbo hose has a check ball that will get stuck over time and also cause vacuum problems

      Thanks for watching, great question. You will want to abide by adhesive curing time which will be stated on back of the specific sealant used.
      Some require 1 hour cure time, while others require 24 hours. Running engine before adhesive cures can lead to premature failure of sealant.

    This is the vacuum regulator, not PCV valve. There are three (3) PCV valves. One in the intake manifold, and two in line from the intake manifold to inlet on the turbo. The one in the inlet manifold fails most of the time. They open and close according if there is the boost or not to keep the valves cover under vacuum al the time. 10"to 18" H2O. The line between the intake manifold and turbo is fragile and often causes air leak turning the check engine ON. Air leak and other problems similar to the vacuum regulator failure. So when you have vacuum regulator failed, replace all of them. Just in case.

    anyone have issues with the dorman valve cover & oil leaks? mechanic used the dorman part, but its been leaking all around the front ever since. another mechanic said the dorman valve cover didnt quite fit so he put sealant all around the gasket as a hack patch. that stopped it until the original mechanic removed the valve cover. he replaced the camshaft seal, just bc we said the oil cap was leaking... lol. in hindsight we figured the original oil cap didnt fit well with the dorman valve cover. mech did not reapply sealant all around the gasket and now its leaking all over especially around the camshaft seal on the left side. i used your other videos to replace the coolant system, so i'm gonna try this video myself with the oem valve cover not dorman. however, i'm wondering if it's just that the gasket degraded or wasn't applied correctly, not that the dorman valve cover didnt fit right?

    2014 Cruze 1.4 turbo
    Last year I started having a under boost message as well as 2 symptoms 1: extremely low and lagging power (rpm’s would go up but very very slow power response) not all the time but most of the time as the turbo seems to work sometimes 2: a oil smell occasionally mostly at rest. I figured it was the turbo so I replaced it and the message went away and my power restored but only for about 4 months now the message is back with the same exact symptoms. I recently learnt that my engine requires 4 liters and not the 4.5 I’ve been adding so I started to dive into that issue and found my PCV valve to be faulty and I’m wondering do these 2 issues directly relate ? Can I fix my valve cover and solve my problem or do you think extensive damage was caused ?
    Sorry for this being a bit long

      Thanks for the reply, in the above comment, there are troubleshooting videos that show you exactly how to check the Valve that is located underneath the plastic cover. Definitely check it out!

    Do you have to use a torque wrench for the E30 bolts?

      Thanks for watching & to obtain exact torque specs for your exact vehicle, you can contact your local Chevy dealership & provide them with the last 8 digits of your VIN #. They can get you your vehicles specs right away.

    What causes the valve cover to fail on the diaphragm and sucks in air is because on the intake manifold its a orange nipple in the pcv once that fails it causes a chain reaction to a bunch of stuff throws codes causes the diaphragm to fail and your crankshaft seal eventually, you cannot just replace the valve cover you have to fix the main source of the issue and thats intake issue, which you have 2 options replace the entire thing for 200 get 30-60k on it or purchase a bypass kit and install it..

    • @Blue.eyed.scorpi
      @Blue.eyed.scorpi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also people it's also another nipple that can fail at the turbocharge check them both out dont just replace the valve cover you will continue to waste money.. I highly recommend to buy the bypass kit and install it on the intake to bypass the pcv because even a new intake manifold will fail again and you'll repeat the cycle all over again.. Also crankshaft seal will fail and the vehicle will Squeal really loud sounding like a slipping belt or a failed water pump, fix any oil leaks as well why this engine leaks oil out most of its seals is because of the main issue on the intake..

      Thanks for watching, that will depend on who you talk too. Our recommendation is to get it fixed sooner rather than later to alleviate the faulty part causing additional damage to other portions of engine.

    Every Cruze owner will replace these 2 items and every cooling system component and pump. Fun cars but cooling system nightmare.
    FYI, save your turbo change the turbo oil feed line every 40k. It costs $30 and only requires 2 banjo bolts to replace. Easy but the exhaust and shield bake oil in little tube and reduce oil flow to turbo. Do it now if you haven't. Turbo will last a long time if you do.

    I did some research on this and found out that it is highly recommended to replace the intake manifold when replacing the valve cover. The issue could actually stem from the intake manifold
