I spent six years in prison full of negativism people. When I came home and saw a dead and company show my gf said she never seen me so happy. She understands now that they are more than just a band. The people are the best people. We are so much more than just fans. She understands the history I have had with the dead for the last 25 years. I love all of you.
Welcome home
Keith Smerek thank you. Bye my girl love the dead now.
good job brother making the world a happier place. yeah I can feel it in your comment. thanks
keep fighting the good fight my man!!! welcome home
I'm truly glad your out of that madness and among the Dead again! Peace bro!
Jerry's solos are helping me get the weeds pulled.
when I'm working in my garden all my neighbors are listening to the dead lol
Phil Lesh really doesn't get enough credit as a premier bass player. He has such a heavy sound, but not overpowering. Fantastic
The nice thing though is that Phil doesn't give a shit bout any of that
But Im with you nevertheless
Phil turned my head Inside out several times i⁹ 🎉🎉❤❤😮😊
Been listening rock n roll 50 yrs no one plays bass even closely to how phil plays ,up down thru around music !!
he kinda does tho. His contemporaries give him his due credit- I donno where this weird idea comes from lol. Phils the boss
Remember a stranger at a dead show is just a best friend you have not met yet.
stranger althea 81 msg
none of my mates know the dead :(
By far, hands down, THE BEST words I ever read describing a GRATEFUL DEAD concert, BAR NONE!
NOTHING in the world is like a Grateful Dead concert!
That is fucking profound. And so true.
The best comment ever on a Grateful Dead concert. There were shows I went to and "those" guys said,
"Where were you? We saved a seat for you. " . SO COOL
Oh my God they were on top of their game right there and the next two years would bring the best ever of the grateful Dead in my opinion
Deer Creek '90 ... crackling w energy.
69
Best years of my life right here 🥳😎☝️☝️🎶☝️🍑🍑💃🕺🎶🎶
1987 JFK was my first show and made me a head forever. I made '89 at JFK and a 2 Spectrum shows before Jerry passed. I've since seen 20 shows with the variations of The Dead, Further, Phil & Friends, Weir, etc... Dead & Co as well. IMO, you can't compare the 80's era to 1973-1977. That was the peak of the Dead. Peace Brother 😎✌
@@miked2623 I’ve been a huge dead and company fan for a year and a half because u didn’t like Jerry’s voice but recently it has grown on me and when I watched him play fire on the mountain at JFK 89 I cried it’s so awesome you were there
My favorite era of the Dead! I loved what Brent added to the band with his playing, harmonizing and singing.
we had a cat named Brent named after him as a kid
Brent for the win!
The Brent shows are my favorite!
@@Stella_Blue1972 The Brent days were the best times I ever had.
Brent’s beard game was strong
How blessed we’ve all been to have experienced these beautiful, joyful shows! For me it was 9/78, Giants Stadium. They opened with St. Stephen/Jack Straw. There was no turning back. I was blessed, anointed, indoctrinated, whatever it is. My boyfriend took me to that show. I married that guy. We’ve been going to shows since then. Looking forward to whatever comes next for us all. God Bless!
Love the GRATEFUL DEAD🎸🎤❣️
Best band I have ever heard and I am 67 years old and have heard a hell of a lot of bands. The Grateful Dead is a band that sends a message to you know matter what mood you are in good or bad Happy or sad after listening to the Dead you are so relaxed and revived in whatever come your way. THANK YOU GRATEFUL DEAD LOVE YOU All Miss YOU JERRY GARCIA BUT I KNOW YOU ARE IN HEAVEN LOOKING DOWN SINGING YOUR HEART OUT, YOU KNOW THERE ARE TIMES I CAN Almost HEAR YOU SINGING FROM ABOVE. LOVE AND MISS YOU JERRY ❤️❤ LOVE A # ONE FAN CINDY BELL ❣️
These guys made beautiful music together The goat of music .I was lucky enough to see the Dead live twice in 1978 Boston garden, and Hartford, Conn.Awsome, tripping balls!!!! Those were the days!!!
You can't escape this band, Dead live forever🌈😎
Iko opening is a banger. Sending chills. Brent is King
Brent
I was born in a desert and raised in a lion's den too...now I'm a librarian 😊
😊
Also... Okay there's music. And then there's good music. And then there's really good music. And then there's live music... and then there's the Grateful Dead 👍✌️😎
Probably my fav show..I loved hot summer shows and the boys loved playing to our crazy Philly fans....as I remember it the doses were super electric too on this tour..hey now
Man perfection!!!!!!! It is a special place the bus takes you. The sun is gonna shine in my back door someday! Jerry and Bob are the best combo ever and Brent wow play that thang man!!!!!!
I truly miss the old days.. Dead shows back then were crazy experiences... I melted my face numerous times, loving every bit of it
If I had known our time was so limited, I would have seen twice as many shows.
I got into the dead when I was 21, but I remembered recently that I had clicked on this video many years ago when I was maybe not even a teen yet. The pic of Jerry in the thumbnail reminded me of my grandpa and I was so curious about the man that one day I finally clicked. Watched probably the first couple numbers on my PS Vita and totally forgot about it for years- but the dead have been after me since day one I guess so it was only matter of time til I was shown the light
Same here, frigging weird?!?!?
Was one of my best shows ever
This concert took place my third day on the earth. My parents tell me it was a hot summer that year
This concert took place roughly one month before I was born... it took me about 20 years to come across Hunter S. Thompson whom introduced me (indirectly, that is) (haha) to the Grateful Dead. I was reading some of his work and was mentioning this band quite a bit and with a great affection. Luckily, I was curious enough then, to look up what the mysterious GD was. Who were they? What do they sound like? Bang! And today, in this day and age, I am sitting here with my sleeveless old rugged GD T shirt listening to this concert. If I ask anyone in my age if they know GD, all I get is blank stares. But hey! Who cares? :)
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them
Which one?
21:50 ❤️🔥✌️summer tour 87 melted my mind
Jerry on 'Sugaree' -- hot damn! Might be the best I've seen him dig into that one and what a flow.
Agree!
His best lead playing ever, IMHO.
I work in a job where we are drowned in negativity and have a psycho neighbour who constantly melts down..listening to the dead gives much needed peace
And we love you too. The Grateful Dead broke down barriers that would typically keep us from loving strangers. In fact, the GD taught us without actually saying the words, there are no strangers.
Brent is amazing!!!!!
Many of the GD's songs are more complex than first observed or heard. Some are downright challenging, and I speak as a
musician of 35 years doing it
Living in Bali at 68. Been listening to this band since 1967, they will come with me when my time is up.
Peace up u all.
🌴✌🏄🏄🏄🏄✌🌴
It has to be magic. It’s got to be. How else could one explain what’s happening here. The way this gets you. I really believe the music does play the band. The Grateful Dead are as good as it can be. And then they give you more. Unbelievable. A rocken Minglewood then a beautiful Althea. Again. Beautiful.
Jerry said it myself. "What we do is magic. How we do it is music.
My 1st show. I saw Jerry as a Buddha. Weird?!?!
Quintessential. From beginning to the Suite… and the peter.. it’s majesty. It’s the perfect set.
I Remember how Humid it was.. it was an afternoon show. They was as many people who didn't get in or chose to stay out side the arena that there was inside....the temp was well over a Hundred deg there was a fire hose they were spraying around for a short time... Still one of the best Dead shows ever
Yes! 96+ that afternoon. We were just out of reach of spray from fire hoses in front of Jerry. Loved the shows with Dylan.
I was there for this show and one with Dylan as well! Nothing can ever compare
I was there for this too. Hot as F that day. But a smoking concert
I carried my girlfriend out after the show, lots of people had heat stroke. 89 was the same.
The shows were so good.
@@chazbickel4518
... the space was definitely hot🌡🎶🎸
My first show! Just celebrated my last at the Philly Dead and Co. What an honor to witness and I looking forward to being Dead forever.
This show was a tripping blast w an iko opener..was insane...named my husky pup iko after this opener...turned my older bro on to his first show this day...he ain't never been the same...lol🤪
Man whoever that was said whoever tried to psychedelic it up and screwed up us seeing them in utter glory does actually need to do a stretch in prison man damn!! With no soap just raw dog style...i love the dude with the cameras and the perma-grin over there by Jerry I totally hate you man Lol. What a great great beautiful Grateful Dead show y'all. WOW
Alright...I was born just a little bit too late to really get my feathers ruffled by em since I got delivered upon the world 3/16/1972.. turns out that's a great year for the Dead too 😉 but seriously here.. I'm not sure if my 15yr old ass when this show went off coulda handled it. Holy freaking moly Batman 👍✌️😎
Love listening to the old concert recordings! It brings me back in time.
Bobby sang this song special for my niece who was with him for about 13 years or so ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹🎼🕊️🪽💀☠️⚡️💦💧💥🌟✨☄️☀️💫🔥🎼👽🪐🛸🚀🌈the Aliens have been to our world 🌎 before man was ever here ! I saw their ship !
After all these years Jerry still watches Bobby do his thing in amazement of how does he do that ? ,!
I learned so much in guitar from Bobby's rhythms.
I always thought it was like the head master making sure he liked what he did. Bless his heart Bobby never looked angry ever
Bobby was forever pleading with the mixing board to pot up his sound, poor guy.
I listened to Bob's isolated track the other day, and discovered why they did that!!!😁@@RedWhiteNBluPitBulls
You do not know wtf Jerry is thinking but that ain't it, I'd swear on it! I've hung around both Jerry & Bob on stage!!
1981-1985.
My 1st show, Dead n Dylan, hot day, just turned 21, incredible energy. Hooked foreva.
JFK would of been trippin, the last good pres only if he was around now to turn things around. Jerry's guardian angel was just around the corner at this point to give us a few more incredible years, thanks mom!
Oh my god the Gratefuldead ! How I love them all of the time especially Jerry , he is my soul mate ! I love him forever & we have been together !
Man! Saw this just before I left for work just couldn't wait til I got home so sod it took my headphones to work fone in my pocket hid my earplugs under my ear defenders & listened to it while I worked!! Cool!!!!
The guitar at 37:52.... This space is getting hot!
This brings so much Joy and also tears ,Some of the most soulful and meaningful music on Earth....The DEAD where like no other bands on stage. There music is Timeless,...always Love em...Love em today now lm older ,but to watch this now l was in my 20s or just 20....Holy Crap they where On their GAME is a understatement, keep shaking them bones.

Hey now! I was there. What can I say...priceless

I was there, too! 💀⚡️
BRENT on FIRE for Aiko Aiko! 😍
I Was There For This, JFK is a Great Stadium for a Show, Especially in the 80's i was Captain America with my Star Cape Dancing through the Crowd? Lol 😂Maybe You Remember Me... Did Make there Local News Channel though, they wanted to know How Captain America Was Enjoying the Show So Far... the Rest is History 😂🎉❤
Nobody could play the drums like Mickey Jesus how did he do so many sounds ? Me & my niece were behind the speakers got passed a joint , didn’t know what was in it but we had to get down from there we were to high for what he did with them drums ! Oh boy , wow !
🙃 this space is gettin hot
you know now I'm tryin to catch her
Just fyi, Billy is by far the better drummer of the two- Mickey might reach for and invent crazy sounds but there is No Way he could have ever played like Billy did in 73.. ever. Listen to the Dead without Mickey snd you’ll understand that Billy was as good as any jazz drummer ever was..
Two drummers is powerful but limiting also. They were never better than they were without Mickey. 🤷🏻Not a Mickey hater, at all. I believe he would be the first to admit it. He understands , i’m sure, what a great drummer is, and that he’s been very fortunate to play w somebody of Billy’s caliber. That’s my truth, you can take it or leave it..
Agreed Mickey is a rudimentary drummer. Billy was a hummingbird he could play anything!! @@adamcrary1602
U r rite on about Billy being the best at the drums plus Micky knew how lucky he was to be with them because his father had ripped the band off ! They had no idea for a long time y they didn’t have as much money as they should have ? 🥲😢😤😡🤬🤯😰😥
Best “Looks Like Rain” ever 🔥

amazing how much things changed from 1977 to 1987
Good vibes🎉
On septa bus tonight 2 people were talking loud on their phones. So I played on my phone a very incredibly loud and long Samson & Delilah as a cure for all. Lol
Well done, friend. I grew up in Philadelphia but I left town decades ago. The bay area is just like heaven for an old head.
I love this one plus I think I was there ? No matter because I love all of it so much forever as long as I’m alive ! 😍🥰😘🪭🌹💧😢

Me too! Don't remember much from that show for some reason...🤪
Gahhhhh 💗
Peace and love to you and your family
Cronkite went to a show w his wife and loved it!
BORN IN THE DESERT IS SMOKIN' ! Garcias' playing is off the hook!!! The entire show is so high energy and everybody is off on it. Another show I get to listen to, over and over. LOVE that the "entire" shows are uploaded! For awhile there they were uploading the one hit wonder tunes, they made me CRAzy. The entire show is where it's at. Thank you for the upload.
Brent was such a great fit for them. God damn was he good!
Can't you just feel something special in this show? Such an energy.
I was at his show; I had no ticket, and climbed over a concrete wall and dropped into a pit where there were rows of tractor trailers and found my way out in front of the stage ,,A very hot day
was it too expensive ?
U stole from the band?
Cool. 👍At one show the crowd dropped, well, did the best they could to lower a fat dude down to the field. About half way down it was a free fall. No tractor trailors so that wasn't you.
Another show the Hells Angels wire cut open a chain link fence. They all drove in, put the fence back rightly and all was cool. I love the "rogue" nature.
@@laurentdubois2268
I would've done it in a heartbeat
I would love it if everyone took note of the studio sound quality recorded at a live concert over 30 years ago. And for those of us who got to experience it live, I'm sure you'll agree no sound will ever be the same.
Only Pink Floyd has had such a comparable crisp clear sound as the Dead.
Thank you Bear for your tireless commitment to the sound and the innovations you and the band brought to quality concert sound.
Excluding the 80’s synth 🎹 tone it is 🔥
Bobby gave a interview about that sound , he said the albums were the best that could put out that sound & that they r working on making it perfect ! 😅😛😵💫🥳✌️🫶🏼☮️🥲😢😥🌹❤️❤️👻💀👽🪐
I also loved PinkFyod but I couldn’t pry my body from the Gratefuldead !
my girlfriend and I just tried acid (both for the first time) and after a while of being overwhelmed I was kind of scared what direction it was going to go in. After finding comfort in realizing what "shine on you my crazy diamond" by pink floyd actually means, I decided to see what musical wisdom the greatful dead could offer. Without ever hearing a dead song before I put this video on and it has made this experience a million times better.
They loved playing east coast_ Philly, new York, Hampton, Boston and it shows. Thanks 4 the share of this spectacular pro shot. East coast dead shows are ROCKERS!!! This is peeeeerfecyt example. Thanks !
And it,had EVERYTHING to do with the crowd energy. They fed off it.
Been to cali shows and me & my friends got yelled at 4 being "too loud". The -Dead were basically a rock band who loved it loud & rowdy
Love that Apple computer above Brent's head. Really dates the show....
Spotted a Dead shirt cradled in a canadian tuxedo at this taco place I frequent. I said, "Hey, I dig that shirt man." His face lit up. I've never seen a random stranger's face get so soft and familiar. Different people and different generations, same bad music. Love
I went to this show. I was in the first few rows center stage.I took some great pictures at this show. Great to relive it. THANKS FOR POSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
