I am not a therapist but I am reminded of a conversation I had with a wise elderly gentleman who had studied psychology, I was getting quite worked up repeating my point over and over when he said "you might be right"... the comment instantly calmed me and took the conversation down several notches. I guess I just needed to feel like I was being heard and had something valid to say whether he agreed with me or not.

This is also very useful to me because I am a coach and I have two challenging clients who resist. Thank you.

"an increasing desire to push harry out the door, or the window" instantly subscribes haha. This was great, thank you!

Awesome material. I’m working in the SUD field and have resistance and denial all over. Practice MI tactics but this “use the resistance energy and guide it” is a very good tool I’ll be using. Thank you.

Just the video I needed, thank you so much; I needed to know how to pull when pushed, I knew that was a solution and now you've given ways to implement that principle, thank you so much!

I'm a client who can't open up, I have trust issues. My current therapist swears by cbt, but it doesn't work for me. Relaxation exercises make me so angry. I have seen so many therapists over the last 20 years. I can't relax or even stay long enough to build trust. All I'm doing in therapy is getting more frustrated with myself. I'm so angry and I can't handle it. I'm an introvert and I just need to be left alone. I feel like a bug that is being poked with a stick. I'm ready to give up on therapy once more.

Sorry to hear that - feeling trapped by an emotion is overwhelming. What I hear you say you want the therapy to help you but are frustrated with it being ineffective, and perhaps not meeting your needs as an individual. The therapist could work directly on your resistance to therapy, if they are skilled enough to meet you where you are rather than fit you into some protocol that they learnt and apply to every client, and then blame the client for not responding to the treatment. Once that layer of anger goes away, you could work on deeper layers of what actually makes you angry irl.

You might want to take a look at neurofeedback.

hello! i know your comment is old.. i hope you managed to get over your hurdle.
in my case, what helped ease my hunger pangs was replacing processed food with natural foods like veggies, nuts, eggs, low-fat cheese, meat.. good luck!

"Don't fight your clients.....work with what they give you".... and he's calling this a revelation!!
Harry resists everything in his life and he's giving you the gift of seeing this by doing it with you. "Don't take it personal" Holy cow! What kind of a therapist would take it personal when the client is showing you honestly what's happening with him
I hope there's a major shift in how therapists are trained because the whole approach I see from most is atrocious.
