I start everyday off with some strong coffee and some Ray Price. If he's not the best country singer of all time, he's easily top five. So many big hits and great songs, from honky-tonk to Nashville crooner, Ray was the best.
These are the country stars they I got to see when stationed at FT Campbell in the early 1950s and spent many Saturday night at the Ryman. After the main show that was on the radio from 8 to 9, they let us military peoples in free and any time in Nashville it was a treat at least for me I loved country music.
They use that "junk" now so they can hear. Stage volume is much higher now. It doesnt take anything away from modern performers. Style of music and taste, now that's a different story.
I think Ray Price had the best Versatel voice . He could change his style of singing at any time and had a beautiful voice and if possible improved with age. We rarely hear his style with this new country today. It's just not the same.i appreciate having the choice of listening to good country music from all these videos so thank you again , Singing Cowboy for sharing along with the others that share their great videos of real country music..

As a radio listener, just a high school kid, I never heard much of Ray Price. If he was popular around Nashville I had no way of knowing because he got no play on Los Angeles country stations. Then Crazy Arms hit and Ray Price became king of the mountain in country music. The rest is history. Now that these old performances are available on You Tube I've been pigging out on Ray Price. And one of the things I see for the first time is how he dressed. It adds an element of excitement that's been lost or maybe thrown away since then. I wonder what happened to the country music I learned to love. It's almost as if it became ashamed of what it was. I only wish the sound quality of some of these old videos was up to snuff.
'll tell you ONE thing!........... this is absolutely amazing and historically over the top!!!!!.......Pete Charles ....he signed a T-shirt for me in Reno....went to see him with Al Quaid...Al was in tears most off the performance.....
Pat Coleman , according to my late wife’s notes, you are very correct. She goes on to say Gordon Terry was an electric lead guitar player as good as there was. He played bass, lead, fiddle, just about wherever they needed him. He went on to tour with Merle Haggard later.
Steel players seen are Jimmy Day, Jack Evins, and I think that is the rarely seen Jimmy Biggar at 11'00. Probably from 1955? Biggar had previously recorded with George Jones, but then faded back into the woodwork. Don't know what ever happened to his career, but he was a fine player. Passed away in 2001 in Etoile TX.
My Dad loved Ray Price and sang a lot of his songs in his little band. Crazy Arms was his favorite. Brings back great memories ❤️🎶🎶❤️ Thanks for posting

Yes indeed Crazy Arms recorded by Ray 1956 was huge. Classic today. Artists still performing it in 2024.
