Hi Hot Tub Lady! I have very small black particals and very small brown circles that looks like rust in my hot tub? My tub is salt water hot springs only 2 months old. I keep the water balanced perfectly and check it often. Please help!

Great video! I see that my manual says to give about 30 minutes for the ph decreaser to mix in and you mentioned it taking days. Is there a limit of how much decreaser I should add at once?

It depends on what you are lowering. If it is pH. Go for it. If it is alkalinity you need to slow it down. I wouldn’t ever do more than 4TBS at a time. Wait at least 12 hours between dosages

Hi! I just found and subbed your channel. After watching a number of episodes I find you focus primarily on salt and chlorine or bromine tubs. I just purchased our third tub and had it installed 4 days ago! Woo hoo! Anyway, it’s a Sundance spa and it uses ozone and UV for sanitizing. What are your thoughts on these? Have had Sundance spas for the last 24 years. Our last one lasted 16 years and we had no issues whatsoever. I keep my tubs maintained regularly. I enjoy your channel. Thanks! From Colorado

Ozone is a great option. Make sure that you change the ozone every year or two as they burn out. You do still have to use another sanitizer. I actually talked about ozone and UV quite a bit in my new book coming out Hot Tub Clarity. I used ozone for years. I know use salt. :-) Thanks for watching.

How do I lower my pH w/out lowering my Alk? I had a yo-yo issue of this 2 weeks ago and I emptied it, shop vacuumed the water out of the jets. I have new water in my 300 gallon spa. Chem readings are Alk=70, pH=>8.4. I added Alk Increaser; new reading Alk=120, pH=still=>8.4. So I added pH decreaser, this brought my Alk down to 100 and pH is about 8.2. Help - I'm ready to throw a sledge hammer to this brand new spa.

How are you testing? This doesn’t make sense…. eBay are you using for all your chemicals

Hi, I'm having issues lowering my PH, I put 2 Tbsp (SpaGuard ph decreaser) every day for over a week and about to finish a new bottle, but no change with PH, please help.
    PH is at 8.0
    ALK is at 180
    Chlorine PPM is at 1
    Total Hardness 0

Where is the alakalintiy? that is really what you are working on. When I had my dealership in Nebraka It would take two full bottles to get there. Anything over 240 would probaly take 2TBS every day for 16 days or so.

I am still not understanding hot tub chemicals!!!! about ready to drain it and just stop using it. I took a sample in yesterday to the store I bought my hot tub from. They said my Total Chlorine is (7.7) Ideal: 3- 5 and my Free Chlorine (0) Ideal: 3- 5 So what is causing my Chlorine to be high, I am using the Frog@ease and have it set on a 1? What is strange is on the report is says Add 3.5 oz(s) of Chlorinating Concentrate? Why would I add Chlorinating Concentrate to my hot tub if it is 7.7 Total Chlorine? They act like they don't even want to talk chemicals. They offer a free WET ORIENTATION and I said can they explain the chemicals and they said no just how to use your hot tub. Should I just drain it and start over... because I have two different kinds of strips and when I measure the chlorine it shows very light pink... but they are saying I am at 7.7? Do I need better strips? Can you recommend any that show Total Chlorine? Thanks

I’m sorry. That is frustrating. Just so you understand. There is total chlorine that is chlorine that is combined with a bad molecule and is no longer effective. Free chlorine is a good chlorine that is actually sanitizing. When you have a lot of total chlorine that’s when your hot tub is going to smell like chlorine and it’s going to make your eyes burn. I will find a video that I talk about all of this, it is important that your free chlorine is within two points of your total chlorine. If not, you need to shock your hot tub so when they were asking you to add more chlorine they’re asking you to hit break point chlorine which is 10.0 part per million of free chlorine.
So what we’re really talking about here is shocking the hot tub and not your chlorine level. The test strips you should be using on a spa frog system or the spa frog test strips . i’ll have a video on the next comment and you can always contact me via the website and I’m happy to help you.

@@TheHotTubLady So what would drivs up the Total Chlorine number to 7.7? My Free Chlorine is 0? And what is crazy is I had just drained and refilled my hot tub about a week ago?

@@TheHotTubLady Another Frustrating thing about hot tubs... The test strips that I use and I bought are from the frog@east Spa Frog but those do "NOT" give a reading if your Total CHLORINE is too high.... it only says if lighter than this color increase the frog floater.... Why can't it be easier to understand.... WHY DO they Say SHOCK when talking NON CHLORINE and CHLORINE .... they should call them something else.... honestly... if they are different. I am thinking about going to Bromine Tablets and Chlorine shock and some test strips that measure what I need to have the safest water for me and my family because this seems like a crap shoot... with the frog system. Had I not taken my water to the hot tub place that is pretty much useless when it comes to chemicals... and once they got their sell doesn't even want to see me in the store... but when it was time to buy they were blowing up my phone.. now all I get is a text to call a number and leave a voice mail. anyway sorry for the rant but I guess I just want to know what the easiest way to run a plug and play hot tub. I am so frustrated I drained it today.... and I am going to start over once I figure out the safest and easiest way to set it up and run it and TEST it... Thanks for any videos on that... as well...

I’m really sorry that you are having such a hard time and you aren’t getting more help from your dealership. Every type of sanitizer has its ups and downs. I do feel spa fro is the easiest. If you go bromine be careful as it is incredibly acidic and will bottom out your ph and alkalinity very quickly. It is very easy to get to high on your bromine. You are over thinking the spa frog honestly if you just shocked it you would be right back to normal. You can shock with chlorine or shock. Shock which is actually mono per-sulfate will go away quicker then shocking with chlorine. If you shocked once a month you would be fine. Did you by chance download my spa frog cheat sheets. Or read or listen to my book. Hot Tub Clarity? I would love to help you out. Maybe point you to another dealer what city are you in? I’ll send you another video
