    It’s perhaps the laziest way they could have done any sort of retcon. It neither enhances the factions overall appeal and lore (like the necrons one did) nor fixes any major issues that had existed in the setting and needed a major overhaul.

      @@kid9893there is a rumour that they did it to add more diversity due to the Amazon TV show.
      Henry Cavill is the producer and star, in control of the new TV show on Amazon. He left witcher due to it not staying true to the books/lore.
      The rumour is that Cavills TV show will have custodes heavily involved as he is a custodes player/fan.
      Amazon TV shows have diversity quotas and do not want all male casts, or predominantly male casts.
      Games workshop may have just invented female custodes so that Cavill has to include them in his show.

    Idk how. But the way I came up.with was making a story on how the emperor found the first blank. Trying to turn her into a custodian. But maybe got an inch close. Though not quite. Then, have her start the sisters of silence. Have her have her own army, even of blanks and blank weapons. With even new powers.

    • @baddidea4863
      @baddidea4863 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats such a cool idea. The sisters of silence basically just being what happens when custodes are women, made in the emperors image but coming out blanks? That could actually be really deep and interesting. I love the concept of them being too close to the emperors image.

    I like the tzeentch idea. I would involve the thousand sons in 40k, and make it an attempt to alter the timeline in order to make the emperor vulnerable during the Horus Heresy. However, the attempt to remove the custodes from play failed, as in that altered timeline the emperor made up for the deficit of able bodied men with available pureblood noble women. In tzeentchian fashion, there was a longer period of vulnerability due to causing the creation of custodes to be slowed, but no such enemy was strong enough to exploit the opening.

    I personally would say they experimented on the pariah gene similar to how they experimented on the primarch genes resulting in primarius marines and did something to the pariah gene that gets rid of the blank effect and in turn makes them into a candidate to become custodians.
    It keeps them still as a very rare limited faction in terms they are still hard to produce it takes a already existing group tied to the custodians thus allows them to have more of a reason to intermingle and sounds plausible in the lore due to the sheer limitation they currently have of custodians that they needed to seek out optional candidates to fill the ranks.
    Also would expand on the current sisters of silence line of models we could get like sisters of silence on hover bikes or a elite sister of silence that there mastery over the pariah gene allows them to project said field onto psykers that cause them to shut down or go insane due to being disconnected from the warp it would be equal to shooting someone in the eyes and blinding them.
    The other reason for getting rid of the blank rather than keeping it is to give a dysmorphic path to the sisters of silence do they stay as a sister of silence being a blank or do they sacrifice it to become a custodian thus would give reason for both types to continue to exist.

    Something tells me this is testing the waters for female marines, which will go over FAR worse than this did. All of these super humans are tools for the whims of the god emperor.
    Females have plenty of roles to play, as guardsmen, Inquisitors, navigators, tech adepts. Basically everything in the universe! The differences between the sisters of battle and Astartes, Sisters of Silence and Custodes, and so on feels pretty substantial.

    My take on this: I don't really care about the whole politics part. Yeah, it is very cheap and hollow of them, but it's what you kind of expect from corporations like this. At the end of the day, it doesn't drastically mess with what most people want to do with the setting (which is have awesome buff guys kill aliens and evil buff guys), so I think it's fine. HOWEVER, I do agree that a lot of settings nowadays tend to overrely on retconning things in order to fit their new stuff in. DnD tried to do this with their Ardling stuff, but everyone was so angry with them that they cut the Ardlings out. If you want new things in the setting, just make them new. That's the best part of these ever-evolving settings like Warhammer and DnD, you CAN do new stuff.
    I really like that alternate plotline you mentioned with the whole Tzeentch stuff, that'd be cool. And if they REALLY want to do some girl power political thing to get an extra few bucks from their 20 total female fans, they could make the people that ultimately stop the Tzeentch influence in the Custodes *be* the real female Custodes, and then all the priests would be like "wow omg we should make more female custodes cuz they're so awesome" or whatever. It'd be at the very least better than just saying "nuh uh" like they are now. (Plus, they could literally do this right now. Like even with everything they've said. It's set up perfectly if they wanted to make everyone happy with an actually good story)

    First with the high republic i really didn´t like that setting as the jedi in the comics at least act more like Sith than Jedi.
    Diverting a swarm of flesh eating space bugs to a planet with sentient life to test their initiates.
    Saying that its okay to use the dark side of the force to a youngling.
    Or refusing to rescue some their own because it is the will of the force that they are where they are.
    Legends The old Republic where in my books much better written.
    As for female custodes... no that isn´t going down no matter how sweet they try to make it.
    I like whole Tzeentch demon infiltrating the custodes, which would show just how far the imperium has fallen and that even the Custodes are only a shadow of their former selves.
    However i would use the Sisters of Silence as a crucial component that took the Tzeentch demon down.
    Use that as their reintroduction.
    Maybe give their armor an upgrade, since it has become apparent that they are needed in an upgrade if they are to once more fight next to the Custodes.
    You could make it so that SOME of their units might look like Custodes at a distance.
    Here i am thinking maybe make a composite armor a bit like that of Khor Phaeron´s heresy armor.
    However as soon as you get up close you can tell they are Sisters of Silence.

    How does the inclusion of female custodians even come close to the worst retcons? The tau had their FTL drives removed from cannon making the Damocles crusade literally impossible from a timeline persepective. This is such a nothing change in comparison to the literal impossibility of the first open war between two major factions. The idea of guardsmen and sisters of battle being “promoted to custodians” is an an actual impossibility of the lore. The reason custodians are taken as infants is because they can be genetically rewritten to become custodians and grow into custodians. You can’t just take a 20 year old guardsmen, put a banana helmet on his head and he is now a custodian.
    “We don’t have any female imperial guardsmen units or heroes”
    We actually have one. They’re an epic hero infact. Lord Castellan Ursula creed who’s minature was released a year ago. We also have the exclusive female catachan minature from a few years back.
    “The current system doesn’t even have an updated sisters of battle rule book.”
    While yes we don’t, they have an index allowing you to play them in tenth while they release a rule book.
    Literally the only bad thing about this inclusion is that it could theoretically take writers away from fleshing out the lore of sisters of silence.

    • @kid9893
      @kid9893  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm not sure about the first thing you brought up with the crusade, I'm having my lore beard friend explain that to me and when he gets back to me I will answer that question. Based on what you said The way they handled that sounds pretty awful as well, did they say why they changed it? Was it to enhance the story or Was it some other nefarious reason?
      I agree that the promoted to custodians is a terrible idea but it is much better than "shut up stop asking me" which has been with the response has been so far.
      I heard about Creed from that same lore beard after I published the video and I would have pointed to her as a fantastic reason that we need more.
      I think not having a sisters of Battle book is a way bigger issue than you are letting on. I would actually even say specifically a sisters of silence book would be a worse sin to not have. The point of this is instead of updating their existing female factions to appeal to female players which is the state of reason for doing this, they're going to bastardize a factions lore. Sure on the surface this change is minor however the way they went about it is the rudest and laziest possible way they could have.
      The hubris and dismissive behavior is way worse than poorly written lore, that's what this video is pushing against. I say so in the video, Because this is not your buddy who is working 40 hours a week and then telling your D&D game it's story when he's off work for 3 hours every Saturday. This is a multimillion dollar company who's asking you to spend $50 on some plastic models. At the very least they could put in the effort to write the lore equivalent to how long it would take me to earn the money to buy the plastic.

    • @Notnotnotnotnotnotnotnot
      @Notnotnotnotnotnotnotnot 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kid9893 originally the tau would use “skim drives” to more or less temporarily slip into the warp like the imperial warp drives. Due to the tau having such an infinitesimally small presence in the warp they could essentially temporarily hop into the warp without attracting daemons and return to real space and reach FTL speeds while being safer in comparison again to warp drives the imperium uses. The skim drives made populating their areas of space possible in such a short timespan. I don’t necessarily remember WHY the tau had their skim drives retconned but more or less they invented a similar device at a later date past the Damocles crusade on the timeline, in the modern lore they more or less populated their entire solar system, fought a war with the imperium at sublight speeds, which is… I’ll generously say near impossible with how big space is. Putting it nicely warhammer lore is a finely woven tapestry, and then you get a closer look at the smaller strands that make up this tapestry and realize some of them are made out of silly string, especially when you look at xenos lore (and the lack there of in the case of Tyranids.)
      Anyways back to the topic at hand, I personally don’t think the inclusion of female custodians is a problem from a lore perspective. basically the only reason we DONT have them is because GW is terrified of making poorly designed female minatures because those don’t sell well (similar to the reason we don’t have female space marines besides the lore is that they don’t want to make non conventionally attractive female minatures because those don’t sell well. alongside the fact they would have to put effort into making good female heads for a faction meant to be easy to paint and allow new players to avoid the issue of badly painted faces on tabletop.)
      Realistically the fact we haven’t seen female custodians in lore (besides echoes of eternity where sanguinius sees golden men and women protecting the emperor in a vision, though at the time that could of implied sisters of silence) is that no one assumes the giant golden armored custodian is a woman. Not to mention most custodian names are more or less giant titles so that wouldn’t much help anyone identifying one.
      Oh I agree that it’s still a problem but that’s just how they’ve done codexes for awhile now and the fact there isn’t one now doesn’t mean there won’t be one in the future. I wanted to make sure it was noted in the comments because the way you said that sounded as if you were implying the sisters of battle just don’t exist on tabletop without a rulebook.
      Also do you mean sisters of silence book as in codex or lore novel? The main issues with lore novels with a sisters of silence focus is the fact that… sisters of silence have a vow of silence, not everyone in the black library staff can write a silent protagonist in a novel. To my knowledge there’s only Watcher of the throne and a short story called the voice are from there perspective because of the “silent protagonist / non verbal protagonist” problem.

      So for my limited research on the tau thing it's very clearly been handled better than this entire situation. I think you're arguing against the wrong point here, even though I personally disagree with it the video is not about should female custodes exist. My main issue is how lazy this retcon is. It is definitely a retcon because there are at least a dozen times in previous lore They referred to as the sons of Terra, men, a brotherhood, or similar male only identifiers. If they wanted to change the lore, They should earn it. I gave three suggestions in the video of things better than simply just saying "there have always been female custodies" which is insultingly lazy. This is a multi-million dollar company, the only reason that we play their game over other games is we enjoy their world and lore. It's not insane to demand better, Even if you agree with the base idea.

    You know that the ONLY reason they did not have female Custodes at inception was that the models were not ready... right? Lore follows models not the other way around. The hyperventilation over this addition is just embarrassing in the presence of so many other, larger retcons and additions. *waves to Leagues of Votan*

      So you're telling me the custodians who've been around in lore since like the '90s who've only been mentioned as men since the '90s definitely have females planned? We just got really unlucky that they only said male custodes and sons of Terra for 30 years?
      Don't pretend this is not a retcon. You can think it's a good retcon, that's fine. But don't pretend this is how it's always been.

      I never said it was not a retcon. I said it was not lore because they did not have models for them. A policy they had since Chapterhouse drank the everloving shit out of their milkshake. I also said it was interesting that THIS retcon is causing so much rage bait in the face of so many OTHER retcons that happened. Hey... remember when the Orcs weren't sporeboyz? It should also be pointed out that the only reason this seems to be an issue is because of culture war morons from outside the fandom lobbing a 'ooh woke DEI females pushed on man space' fragile ego grifting bullshit over 2 words in a short story about a group these idiots entire knowledge of comes from random wikis. Remember when the Necrons were ancient as hell mindless Terminators? This is 40k... with all these psykers running around... lore is only as static as the profits on models.
