In the timeless town of Macondo, seven generations of the Buendía family navigate love, oblivion and the inescapability of their past - and their fate.
I spent 9 hours finishing this book, and when I turned off my pad, it felt as if the whole world had gone silent. A fear of forgetting and a pain of loneliness bloomed in my heart. I'm 81 & I read the book 30 years ago & again 8 years ao. My granddaughter's 23 & she read the book last year. We've been watching the series together an episode each week & it's been such a joy. I would have watched all 8 episodes in a day but I promised faithfully that I wouldn't & it took great willpower to stick to my promise. . What I'm shocked by is that it's not in the top 10 most viewed tv series & sorry to be such a snob but it shows how dim the average Netflix subscriber is when you look at the list. I think that we're incredibly fortunate that such a superb version was made of One Hundred Years ..... by Netflix

For those who are planning to watch this series, I would suggest to read the nove first. Other wise you are ruining one of the best aesthetic experience you can have. The craft and imagination of best 100 film makers of all time put together can't match with what Márquez has done with words in the novel.
Yes.. read it in snail pace in Spanish to capture the magic (the grammar was out of my league, a spanish-english translation book was in handy)… read it years later in English, equally mind blowing.. my impression was that the Marquez estate would not allow a movie/TV adaptation, what changed?
So true!!!!
Marquez waited 3 years to have this novel translated into English because he wanted Gregory Rabassa to be the one to do it and he didn’t have any availability for those 3 years due to other projects …it was definitely worth the wait.

Dumbest and most moronic book I have ever read. Pure trash. Get help, pal.
@@Luiii588 Well said. It's garbage. Morons repeat what others have said without assessing the book for themselves. Repeat something, no matter how false, enough times, and it becomes true, as the saying goes.
@zb5775 Aw, how cute, a contrarian. If one can read between the lines, one will appreciate the socio-political metaphors sprinkled throughout the book. There's a whole history of a nation in this book. The last thing it is is superficial.
Seems nice, but i think the reason the book is truly unadaptable has nothing to do with the events but the prose itself. As it is written in a way that is itself a summary of periods with highlights on certain events. Similar as to when a relative tells you a story from the family history.
It's not even the type of book that I think will work well in a single film; but maybe a series or multiple films. So many things will likely be left out. But I'm looking forward to how they tackle the adaptation and what they decide to emphasize. We'll see how it turns out, but it does look exciting!
Yes - very little actual dialog.
We better lower our expectation and just embrace the fact we are lucky enough to witness that this masterpiece is coming to screen
Yeah, theres no suspense, things that amount to nothing and just pass on. I might be pessimistic but with that trailer it looks like it's going to be all epic and spectacular

I am flattered for filmakers taking a time to make this movie. It is a classic piece of Literature written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Although, his las film also base in one of his novels and short stories has not acheive any popularity among many people nor literature lovers. I am hoping this movie really portrays the storie as it is written. It is understandable not many movies are able to be faithful to the original story, nor from the novels or any piece of literature. Few producers, directors and writers have been able to attain a film that captivates it audiences in theater as well in books. Very few and those movies are still popular to watch even in school. They have great actors just as the book describes. I am excited to watch the film since I will be very critical on how faithful they are to the story and its characters, hoping this great piece of literature not only survives in books but in film as well.

Better read(if possible) in Spanish, it is very hard to translate the argot and slang to another language, but still a fantastic book and probably one of the best in Latin American literature.
Many years ago, in an interview, Garcia Marquez humorously said that Gregory Rabassa, the translator of "One Hundred", improved upon the Spanish version.

I have been wondering whether this book was ever made into a movie and I have been thinking that it would have to be a series or a very long movie. I have been thinking about how difficult it would be to adapt well. After a failed attempt, I am reading it in Spanish right now. I am not a native speaker. I´m level B2, so it´s very difficult for me. I read 1 chapter per month. I am on chapter 16, so I have been reading it for 16 months now. I am in a book club with 3 other people and we discuss it. One has degrees in Latin American and Spanish literature (as do I), but he explains the book. I did my undergrad thesis on Chronicle of a Death Foretold (Crónica de una muerte anunciada) by Márquez. That´s when I fell in love with the author. My heard jumped with excitement when I saw the trailer. It almost brought me to tears! I can´t wait for it to debut. I will watch it in Spanish with Spanish subtitles to help me improve my language skills. This is an important book for everyone to read because it explores the human condition and the history of Latin America through the microcosm of the fictional Macondo.
Wow! impressive!
Another thing that makes the book more identifiable is that it feels like the stories that everyone's grandparents here in Latin America (which is where I am from and where I live) would tell their grandchildren, which is very identifiable.
At one point, Francis Coppola hoped to film it...

I read One Hundred Years of Solitude around 18/19 years ago. It stays with me. One of my favorite books of all time. Happy that it's adapted into a series.
Lets be honest. As a Latin person I've known of this novela almost all my life. I've never expected to see it on the screen, much less in subtitles for the English audiences. The answer is simple. Hollywood. That's why I'm so happy there are streaming services today. Today, thanks to Netflix and other platforms, there are no more gatekeepers who decide which story should be told. Now, all the doors are open to see whatever you want on the screen. I am happy for Latin America, for Colombia and for the Spanish world. We are finally being noticed and known. Latin culture is so incredible and profound and the only thing we have been known for are drugs, cartels, corruption, dictatorships, etc. But behind that dirty surface there is a incredible and vibrant culture full of magic that fascinates every foreigner that dares to visit. This is just another way to get into the deep. I hope this time we see something of the magic realism that Gabo intended in his works.

One of the best novels I have ever read , multiple times . The novel takes us into a long , difficult, yet fascinating journey of self discovery and family relationships . I read the novel in both English and Spanish languages . I hope Netflix does the author and the novel true justice .
One of the best series on Netflix!
What a book. Not getting hopes up given the depth and breath, but here's to doing it justice.
