    I just bought my first pair of skates at 51 years old. They are the candi girl carlins!!! I haven't skates in 20+ years. I've skated in them several times now- first on the street and a couple times at the rink. They are very comfortable except I've gotten blisters on my big toe "nuckle". It may be how I'm lacing them. The trucks do feel a little wobbly at the rink. Thank you for these tips!!!

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Are you lacing them so they’re snug? Also if a skate is a little bit you can get rubbing. Maybe try an extra pair of socks?

      @@SkatieI'm going to tighten up the laces and see if that helps and wear an extra pair of socks. Thank you!!

      I am about to turn 40 and the last time I roller skated, OJ Simpsons white Bronco was on TV. Everyone at the skating rink was watching and enthralled!😂

    I just turned 71 last week. I haven't roller skated in 43 years. I want to get back into skating again.. I love the new skates that your showing and the information you have given. I will be getting these skates and start in my living room so I can gain the confidence and my balance before I go to any rink. I live in the mountains so I would have to drive to the valley to a rink and that's over an hour away but wroth the drive. Thank you so much for teaching me what to look for .. God Bless you..

    I love your channel and I love learning new tricks. I just started skating again in my 50s. The last time I was on my skates before that I think I was a preteen😂 my daughter wanted skates for Christmas so I decided to get back on them and relearn. I bought the candy girl Carlin's and I absolutely love them. They are so comfortable and I have never had foot pain issues and I skate for hours at a time. The only thing I didn't like about them at first are the wheels seem to be a little wide and I felt like I was skating on training wheels but now I have gotten used to them and I like the grippiness of them because I feel more comfortable pushing out on my edges. I bring my tools with me every time I skate to make adjustments if needed. Thank you for teaching me all tips and tricks because my daughter and I are having a blast❤

    To get the fixed toestops lower I've bought a new pair of screws (originals were too short) and placed a cheap hard skateboard cushion through the screw, between the toestop and the plate. I haven't skated much since then, but I think it's good enough!!! And lighter weight than placing metal washers or nuts instead (as I had seen people doing)

    Experienced skater. ooOOoooo. This was so informative and I'm not even in the market for new skates?? How did you cut down the backs of your boots? I use a dance boot indoors but quite a stiff, higher cut vintage set outdoors. I would really like to shave some off the back for ankle mobility and comfort x

      I give my poor dad the task of cutting them down. He separates the individual layers and make sure to keep length for finishing off and tucking back etc so they still look smart. The hardest bit is cutting down the inner strength layers and smoothing everything out so nothing hurts my foot. He’s incredibly patient.

      The wheels on these are monster truck wheels for outside so you may find a smaller wheel better. Something like a sure grip fame or any wheel around 90a and 55-60mm would work or inside.

    Are quad boots are made with smooth leather too? Coming from figures what would be the easiest most maneuverable wheels? Smaller or larger? I remember you said hard were more so. From this video a figure dance type boot is what I would need. Overall I guess I'm looking for a "forgiving " type outfit. Please forgive if my questions seem dumb.

    • @luablau
      @luablau 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Figures you mean ice? Top level quad skates often use the very same boots used on ice, like Edea and Risport. About wheels size, I'm confused too. I hear small wheels are more agile, but I've seen that dance and figure wheels are on the larger side (what I mean with figure here is rolling slowly-ish and precisely over circles drawn on the floor)

    Well I'm not thrilled with Riedell. They only included a wrench for the truck adjustment and an Allen type for what I don't know. The truck adjustment is a click type so you are stuck with whatever incremental adjustment setting it is. No fine tuning. They did not include a the tool for adjusting spin on the wheels. I don't have the type offset wrench to do it. So trying them out today is nixed. The wheels need adjustment because one spins freely. The others spin at varying rates. Shame on you Riedell. I'm not crazy about the fit but I knew that they weren't going to be like my Harlicks. I had to add arch supports because there is virtually little in the boot. No big deal. So I would recommend trying other makes if you can and compare. You might very well do better for the price. $600. US,/565. Euros/£ 497.

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me a lot of the time I end up using “proper” tools as the supplied tools are small and don’t offer enough torque. A lot of the high end roll-line plates have this click action truck adjustment. I really like it as it allows me to count my turns so I can keep the trucks even.

      @@Skatie Indeed. I'll take one the boots to the hardware store tomorrow and do just that. So today I'm just sitting with the boots on letting them get used to my feet.

      @@Skatie I had to but an entire tool set to get what I needed. Low and behold, however before I could open the set I my spied a lawn mower tool. It works perfect for the trucks and the wheels! I returned the set.

    I’m so mad that I paid $100+ for Impala skates and they suck. I should’ve bought from Moxi

    They're not real suede

      I definitely agree, for the price it’s more likely a synthetic suede but it’s definitely a much nicer material than the hard brittle vinyl of many entry level skates. I found they moulded to my feet really nicely even on my first skate in them. For the ££ they’re great. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Are they a true size?

      I’d definitely recommend measuring your foot as skate size and shoe size don’t always correlate. I am a street size 5 and I bought the Candi girls in a 5. I could have done with a 4.5 as they do feel a bit roomy. But they don’t do half sizes.
