The craziest thing about TH-cam to me is that it's completely free to upload as many videos as you want and (so far) they delete none of it and it's stored forever. Even those videos with 3 views that you uploaded in 2009, it's all still there. The amount of storage you get access to for free is insane.
I've seen a couple of videos and articles that try to use youtube as bootleg cloud storage by uploading videos that contain whatever data they want to store.
I think storage costs are really low, but what actually costs them is people watching the stuff. So with the amt of money yt has, they dont ever have to delete the old vids
It's wild that we just went full circle - from having to pick between channel packages for your cable because different shows are on different channels, to companies wanting to put everything behind one service, to removing the ads business and going with subscriptions, to now having to pick between services to subscribe to because different shows are on different services, to the ad business being so back. Innovation I think.
I don't think I fully comprehended exactly how big Bluey is as a show. Edit: Like I'm a fan of Bluey and knew it was big, I just didn't think it was 30% of all views on Disney+ big.
I only learnt people overseas pay for disney+ when you get it free on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (the Australian equivalent to BBC and PBS) Iview. Which I dont think is region locked, if it is I rather just have a VPN and change regions to access it.
It's a good show. A prime example that kids WANT good shows with talented writers. And of course the parents are able to tolerate it, and even watch it with their kids. Sure you can throw on shitty cartoons so your kid stops bothering you and they'll kinda mindlessly watch that. But they'll get absolutely hooked when you show them quality shows meant for kids their age.
I read the book, it splits a character into 3 characters and it takes a more conceptual story into a character based one. It’s dense Chinese scifi that works for a book but to adapt it to the small screen, it needs more compelling characters and enough characters for b plots
They didn't split any characters at all, Cheng Jin is Cheng Xin from book 3 and Saul is Luo Ji from book 2. All the gender/race swaps were done at the author's suggestion. Nobody would argue that the focus of the books was on well written characters, everyone recommends it because of the mind-blowing scifi concepts. The show is a good watch, 8-8.5/10 imo.

I honestly think Apple TV is underrated. For all mankind, and constellation weren't mentioned but are both amazing shows on top of others like Severance, Silo, Foundation, etc. Personally I have Apple TV over Netflix right now.
The "entire series dump so people can binge" model is honestly the stupidest thing Netflix ever popularized and I cannot believe it took Disney of all people to finally buck that trend. It's so stupid for the most obvious of reasons from every conceivable level. It's stupid from a platform perspective because OBVIOUSLY people are just gonna sub for a month binge and then leave, why would they stay if they already watched the entirety of the show they subbed for and finished it in a weekend? It's stupid from a production standpoint because the show has to spend alllllll this money making four movies worth of content before it'll even start making a single dime and cannot react to fan discussion about it it just has to hope it's all good all at once. And it actually sucks from a consumer perspective, because people just devour all the content all at once and then move on, we have completely lost our ability to discuss a show as a community because there's not that weekly water cooler discussion about the new episode feeling anymore. Now it just becomes this stressful thing where you have to make or find time to watch an entire season all at once, and you feel like you can't discuss it with someone because you don't know if they're caught up or not. Binging ONLY EVER made sense when Netflix's catalogue was OLD SHOWS that everyone had already seen on cable ten years ago, and they could just put it on as a background comfort kind of thing. For original or new shows it NEVER made sense, Netflix is stupid for having done it and everyone else is stupid for following in their example. Disney Plus might have dropped the ball but at least they broke that trend and other services can look at how the mandalorian dominated culture during its time and re-learn the lesson that weekly episode releases is THE definitive way to produce television content.
I disagree for the consumer perspective. I much prefer binge model so that I can watch at my own convenience and pace. Waiting weekly is extremely annoying because usually when I have the time for a show I want to watch multiple episodes, and when I'm busy I end up not watching for far longer than a week or even lose hype for the show. Plus it doesn't entirely solve the whole "need to watch or else you are spoiled" problem because people watch the episode the millisecond it comes out and talk about it. The weekly discussion is not worth the sacrifice in convenience, mostly because I have friends I can talk to about the show regardless of the release model, and I don't really care what some random idiot on twitter thinks anyway.

8:03 I’m one of the 30 something’s that was among the early TH-cam addicts before recent generations really took it to the next level. Some of us are still horribly addicted 😂
Yeah, whenever it comes to Paramount plus. The only thing they really have going is just stuff like old sitcoms or things like young sheldon. And then just star trek which yes has a very loyal fan base "in my opinion the most loyal" but it's also fairly small and some of Paramount's more recent decisions with storytelling have alienated some of those fans and not really drawn in new ones.
Northernlion playing balatro for an hour cost no one any money to make and its just as entertaining as a 1 million dollar episode of tv. You cant compete with niche content to millions on millions of people.
i used to pirate music but it is so much more convenient using something like spotify or tidal and paying a couple dollars a month for me versus the whole process of downloading an album, unpacking it, transferring it to my phone, and repeating that process every time i want to listen to a new song/album there's no solution like that for tv shows/movies so i just download a series or a movie from wherever i need to whenever i want to watch something because you won't catch me subbed to all the streaming services

TH-cam has the most content at the best price. And the best part you are able to add your own content to the platform to share with friend, family, and the world.
US needs to be more aggresive towards monopolies. TH-cam shouldn't be owned by Google, Meta shouldn't own both Facebook and Instagram, Messenger and Whatsapp.
I wouldn't include TH-cam when comparing streaming services. With that logic we may as well include Tiktok. User based content generation is a completely different business. TH-cam TV fits though
the amount of hours viewers consume content, movies or vids, is the same. It should be compared. Tiktok doesnt fit since its short form, which has fundamentally different consumers and consumer hours
@gwop827 Aren't TH-cam shorts the main catalyst for their growth in recent years? Also in your logic we don't compare tiktok because of the fundamental difference in consumers and consumer hours, which can also be said about TH-cam when compared to the services in this video. I agree tiktok doesn't fit, but neither does TH-cam
@@slashgnr11 didn't think of it that way. TH-cam is hard to judge since there is a shorts and long form mix, but I guess the best way to compare platforms would be to add tiktok as well and just do it based on user hours? That accounts for all consumer hours. But side note, I don't think yt shorts can be that big since it loses them money by the bucketful. The cost to send each shorter video to so many people is insane, compared to longer videos with fewer views. Moderation is also more difficult, and advertisers r fewer. So if TH-cam was only growing in the shorts department, they would not be reporting higher profits. However, since growth in profits has reduced, maybe yt shorts are eating into those numbers. Tldr, shorts has probably grown a lot, but the growth in long form is probably pretty good
@gwop827 Good point on the profitability of shorts, didn't think about that. Looking at user hours for all video content platforms is probably the most fair comparison. I guess I like to look at the categories as user-based content generation and non-user-based content generation.
Sometimes I forget that Hulu is a seperate thing, because I believe Hulu content is included in Disney+ over here. I was so confused when Atrioc was saying Shogun, The Bear were Hulu etc because I have them on Disney 😂
TH-cam is always my go-to because I like watching "real" people. I obviously love movies, but I don't get attached to the characters ever because they are always fake. I understand content creators are fake, too, but it's so much more well hidden that I can forget about it. It's so much more exciting to follow a 100 subscriber content creator and watch them blow up to a 1mill channel (for example).
With how much social media platforms copy features back and forth from one another, you'd think the streaming services would just open up a slot for big TH-camrs to upload their stuff onto those platforms. Amazon paying for that MrBeast production instead of just giving him an ad-funded slot in their library doesn't make sense to me at all. Sure, not as many people would watch TH-camrs on other platforms, but it'd be a much more logical way to ease a migration of large audiences to other platforms. Or, IDK. I'm no businessman, so I could be dead wrong and this is 100% not going to work.
TH-cam is winning because its one of the only places I can watch Northernlion compilations

Because the content is better Big A, I watch you daily and not any tv show, you’re better
3 body problem is really good, bit weird but I'm hoping there's a second season
Every good show he named for Hulu is on Disney+ in Australia
After Primes new ad stunt it’s a D
I really wish some mainstream movie would sacrifice itself to TH-cam and upload a full fledge film to TH-cam and see if it can make money
Piracy is just so easy and only costs a VPN which you can get for very cheap.
3 body problem was actually insanely good
Someone just recommended me a Sci fi book about that, from a Chinese engineer today 🤔
Severance is the best first season of a show ive ever seen you gotta watch it
mr jimmy should make his own video website
Silo is the show to watch on Apple TV. Top tier dystopian mystery series.
Not sure if it's because im in Canada but all the shows that you said were on hulu I watch on Disney +
10:49 I wish they can hybrid I hate the week to week.
At least give us 3 episodes at a time.
TH-cam premium coming with yt music might be the only reason I'm subbed
People shouldn’t sleep on Barry on MAX. That show is incredible
TH-cam tv is goated for sports, I get basically every game in every major sport
Lmao the sat thing
TH-cam is always my go-to because I like watching "real" people. I obviously love movies, but I don't get attached to the characters ever because they are always fake. I understand content creators are fake, too, but it's so much more well hidden that I can forget about it. It's so much more exciting to follow a 100 subscriber content creator and watch them blow up to a 1mill channel (for example).
"Ima give it a B just for andor" yeah pretty much
With how much social media platforms copy features back and forth from one another, you'd think the streaming services would just open up a slot for big TH-camrs to upload their stuff onto those platforms.
