For the sake of letting you all know how my brain was working in the making of this rough cut, I wanted to include this from the IMDb page, but it didn't seem to fit with what I was reading from the script, so I decided to exclude this one sequence (even though I'm sure, from the picture of Ashe with Gabriel and Grace, that this takes place in/around Sarah's apartment): "Ashe takes Sarah's journal before destroying her apartment so that he does not remember her anymore and won't be tortured by the memory of failing to save her."
I’m actually disappointed that the original version exalted the love a man has for a woman over the love he has for his own child. That’s the one thing I’m glad was changed in the edited version. I was happy to see him reunited with Danny.
Even in its current form, I still consider City of Angels the 2nd best film in the franchise. The one aspect of it that I like better than its counterpart in the 1st film is the score. I know a lot of people hate on this movie simply for existing in the 1st place because of what happened to Brandon Lee but honestly I don't see him of all people having a problem with other Crow movies being made. And the reason I say that is I had the privilege a while back of seeing a video of Brandon being very supportive of his mother as she was getting remarried for the 1st time since his father Bruce passed away in 1973 and welcoming toward his stepfather Tom. After seeing that, I feel pretty confident in saying that Brandon would have had no problem with other Crow movies being made.
"I don't see him of all people having a problem with other Crow movies being made" I agree with this. The Crow: City of Angels would probably got made if he was alive. Eric's story was finished in the 1st film and there are other comics that focus on other characters. The Crow is a alias, it is it's own character that other characters take on where they are brought back to the living to deal with their own problems. Tim Pope and David S. Goyer had something unique that was planned has a sort-of sequel/spin-off. The Score is great, The City of Angels looks totally different from what Detroit look like in the 1st. I think casting is really good too. It's just the bastard editing of the film that ruins it for me.
You're welcome. I'd give just about anything to see the PPV Cut of this film again, so I'm happy to campaign for this film to get restored. It's probably gotta start with Miramax allowing Shout/Scream Factory to work on releasing this version to Blu-ray (as they're currently allowing them to restore Halloween 5, which is really exciting because that film came out a year before The Crow: City of Angels).
This is very interesting. I can’t say that I wouldn’t have SOME problems with this version (although it’s really hard to say without seeing it) but this undoubtedly would have been a better movie. At least more full. I want to see it!!
I believe the PPV Cut was the original 160-minute director's cut because there were scenes in it that weren't even in the script, such as Sarah getting attacked before Ashe's resurrection and Ashe taking out the twins while climbing Judah's tower. Really hope Miramax step up and deliver this PPV Cut because 25 years is a ridiculous time to wait to see your real movie (from Tim Pope and David S. Goyer's perspective, who both disowned the film after Weinstein's cuts, though I'm sure they'd be more than happy with the PPV Cut).
@@thejon93rd I really hope it gets released. I’ve been thinking about this movie a lot lately. Thank you for making this video. I wish there was more we could do to get this released.
Jesus Christ approves of this ppv cut of the Crow. It must be released so the World can see it. Someone had to record it off ppv. Please someone help us! Look through your daddy's collection of vhs! Hollywood doesn't care about us so I doubt they will come to the rescue.

Wow, this is beautiful. I want so much to see the try cut it of this film. Great work.
Scream Factory needs to get behind this.
AMEN!
Yes man.
Were all of these scenes filmed? So there is a possibility we could get the movie rereleased with them.

Yes release the Pope Cut..on HBOMax
Man Sarah is gorgeous in this movie. I never realised this movie would have been excellent If not for Harvey. Was the PPV cut really 160 min?

Man all those cut scenes would have been interesting to see.
Still looking for that trailer that had the music teething in the background. That was one hell of a trailer.

Hope the original cut is not lost like so many films (the exorcist 3 for example)...
