I adore Mia Kirshner. She is so deep and a very intelligent actress. I thought she was the perfect Sarah. They approached this project with respect to the original. I loved the comics, and, of course, no one will ever be able to fit Brandon Lee's shoes. R.I.P Brandon Lee, you're still so iconic, and so missed.
there is a lot of pain in o'barrs voice in this interview. i've seen and heard a number of interviews with him but this one he sounds absolutely shattered.
My dad took me as well, not sure if it was opening day but, I was only 6……I was in awe of every moment, a memory I’m thankful my dad blessed me with, he took me to EVERYTHING with him.
I wish we could get the directors cut. This movie was edited to hell but you can see and feel how different it wanted to be. The visuals, the music are so haunting. The father son dynamic is so beautifully tragic.
Yep, I’ve seen a video that shows a lot of the cut scenes, it was pretty different than what we got, had more of a supernatural element especially to the villain
@@4G63Txthe ending was bitter sweet too he gives up the afterlife with his son to be with Sarah who dies and he’s forced to roam the earth never to die
This is the only thing in the franchise that struck the same chord almost as hard as the first film. It just understood the tragedy and emotion of a dark hero fantasy.
That’s heavy hearted how the creator James OBar couldn’t write after being affected by Brandon’s death. He lost a lot from this character. His girlfriend’s death, his lost friendship with Brandon. Both significantly influenced for the crow and by the crow. This character is supernatural.
I'll be honest. I hated City of Angels as a teen. I recently rewatched it as a father, and it "speaks" to me so much more than the first. The original is obviously better, but the 2nd means more to me as a father. I love this film now. When he buried his son I broke down crying. I could never imagine burying my son.
The movie had potential, it was never going to match the first, and more to the point it didn't try. It seems similar thanks to very dodgy editing and losing up to 40 minutes of footage. Its a bit late now but i would love a re edit if the scenes were dug out.
They imitated it in virtually every way they could. Each character is a direct rip off of the characters from the original. Even bringing back Sarah when it made zero sense why she would somehow be involved. It was blatent and desperate writing to try and keep it as safe and close to the original as possible. But, you know, points for leaving out the rain, I guess?😂
Is it me, or is there a trembling in James O'Barr's voice when he speaks? I mean, the poor guy has his girlfriend's life snuffed by a drunk driver, he befriends Brandon Lee during the making of the first movie - and we know what happened there...the man's gone on record as saying he wished he never wrote the thing in the first place.
Okay but whoever came up with the design for Ash forgot that the makeup Eric wears is specific to HIM. He puts that make up on because of memories, not because of the crow.
The acting was a bit...harsh in this, or the script suxed. Im not into David's writing anyway...so. if they hired a different writerbi bet it would have been great. But it's an alright movie...it had cool moments. They really should have done a female crow instead. "Iris Shaw"
@@Maximus1DecimusI know I have the comic about Iris shaw. Great art by my ex- mentor Alex maleev that scumbagg😅 anyway...yeah the crow is a great take.👍🏻💯
Tim popes and david goyers vision was ruined by scumbag harvey weinstein and the released film was a disjointed mess.such a shame.maybe one day we'l get the directors cut.
It was always going to be crap. Vincent Perez was an odd choice given his thick accent and gave a very questionable performance. Iggy Pop is terrible. Every character is just a (slightly) modified version of the characters in the first film. Unnecessary film. All the sequels were. Brandon's film should have been left alone.
@@SomethingThatSCREAMS ROFL!! Eric Draven is one of 30 different people who took on the mantle of the Crow. xD! The man speaks the truth, this movie only bombed because it was incomplete. Stop trying to force your opinion on other people man. Iggy Pop was originally going to be Funboy in the first film, so sit on that one. Vincent Perez added a different and fresh approach to this Crow, and what the hell do you mean 'slightly modified'. Judah was in no way like the antagonist from the first film, he took on the power of the crow and became a much greater threat to Ashe. Harvey Weinstein is a piece of shit, and had he not interfered this movie would have been pretty damn good. Who knows...maybe better..many sequels have surpassed the original, believe it or not.
@@Maximus1Decimus Not many, lol. Very few. And this one doesn't come anywhere close to the original. This is a mostly forgotten flop. Enjoy fantasy land where this movie is some underrated gem🤣🤣🤣
@@SomethingThatSCREAMS you aren't hearing me! Lol! Eric Draven is one of many who had taken on the mantle of the Crow. Better way to think of it is you have Spawn, Medieval Spawn, and so forth. In the comic line of the crow yes that many, and many more who were wronged in their life and returned to kill those who wronged them. Secondly! Iggy Pop is talented af sounds like you're just trying to make up excuses to hate this movie.
Whoever cast that guy in the lead made a big Mistake! It could have been a great movie but he was just awful. The dialogue from him was just off damn Shame! Why does he speak more clearer in this interview then the whole movie.
"In a sense, improve." WOW... By imitating every detail of the original in a far less captivating or interesting way? 😂 Sorry, but you missed the mark by a few hundred thousand country miles. The Crow is truly untouchable. City of Angels is borderline unwatchable😂😂😂
The second movie was edited to hell and back because of studio interference. Nothing of that is the fault of the actual filmmakers. the original concept for the movie was quite different from what we got in the end and would have been a much better watch. And, far more important, not like a second hand copy of the first movie.
@@TartarossInc Editing the movie can't be blamed for everything. The villains are completely bland and undistinguished (especially the lead villain), and Vincent Perez is terrible as the lead.
@@Dizzy1980 And that, my friend, is just your opinion. I really liked Vincents take on the Crow. True, not all the villains were as good as the in the first movie, but I really liked Curve and Nemo. this movie was so trash, it was embarrassing to watch, i had to leave the theatre half way through actors overacting like at their first school show, writers not able to write, soundtrack not even close to the first one.

RIP Brandon Lee.
OG Crow.
0:54 it's a crying shame the creators of the horrible 2024 reboot didn't have the same sentiment as this guy

The sequels are much better than the new crow
It's very awkward and (dare I say it) "out-of-place" to hear that beautiful crow music played for City of Angels
Johnny Depp in the 90s would make a great crow

They were thinking of him and River Phoenix for the first Crow.
i think he would've been too physically unimposing, to put it nicely...

Yeah but Sarah had memories of Eric and therefore his makeup, so it makes sense that she would apply it to Ash to look the same
Sarah used her memories of Eric for the look except she used the paints of his son for Ashes face.. so it still is part of his narrative
