    GREAT IDEA - A watchmaker & certified jeweler along for the unboxing! Ali gives a great perspective. Even with quips like 'these were designed by people who don't create watches,' he manages to recognize the impressive virtues of the 'product.' Maybe it shouldn't be called a watch - maybe a 'wrist wear device' instead?

  • @JunshuLiu

    4:57 he predicted. The watchOS 5 2018 update dropped the support for the 2015 Apple watches.

    Interesting, I've had my stainless steel watch for a bit now and have enjoyed it, but I haven't actually thought about the perspective of a seasoned watchmaker on their thoughts of the build and finish on a smartwatch. But the more I look at it, the more I love the look of the Apple Watch, and it really IS interesting to hear a seasoned opinion.
    Many thanks for this video.

    That watch guy is so cool. He's part of a Dying Breed. Hopefully guys like this will always be around. The Apple watch is cool but it's certainly a joke when it comes to people that really enjoy watches or timepieces. I'm currently wearing a series 3 Apple watch but I understand that it's a piece of tech that it will be outdated in two to three years tops

  • @coulson_sama

  • @andre77ification

    I’m agree that Apple watches are a blip in the road for people like Ali who work with genuine watches like Rolex’s, citizen watches, jaeger lecoultres, etc. Every year Apple comes out with some new feature that makes people go out and buy the newer version. From series 1 to 2 it was water resistance. Series 3 to 4 it was the increase in the screen size and EKG tracking. People are saying series 6 will be for blood oxygen, but the sensors on the back potentially already have that tech so it would probably be just a software update to activate it in older apps. I foresee series 6 and 7 being potentially the same as series 5 with maybe new watch bands and new watch faces (which will be available on series 5 in a software update). I don’t foresee a major change to Apple Watch coming until/unless they change to what Samsung does and makes a circular watch. I mean even sleep tracking is coming with something as simple as a OS update. I’m interested to see the new features for Apple Watch series 6 but I highly doubt I’ll be buying one.

    I feel like for people with the Apple Watch Edition Apple will make a program for Edition owners to send in their watch and have them upgrade to internals every year for like $3000-4000

    • @RobinsM
      @RobinsM 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Presignify If you watched their tear down it was impossible too remove most of the main internals without destroying the watch. They said a upgrade program like that is less then likely.

    • @docubentary
      @docubentary 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did, but maybe Apple would switch out all the internals so damaging them wouldn't matter

    • @liljay300000
      @liljay300000 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ruben or it could be something more like an upgrade program were you send them your watch you get a specific amount of credit towards the new version then they recycle the parts they can and so on.

    I'd rather buy a $6k Rolex and then a stainless steel apple watch. Best of both worlds and still save a couple thousand dollars. Then again, the people buying the edition probably don't care at all about money.

  • @andre77ification
    @andre77ification 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m late I know but I’m with Ali. Apple should have done an upgrading thing for the Apple Watch Edition to series 2 or 3 for the ceramic watch edition. I hate apples trade in watch policy. You pay $350 for an Apple Watch but when you trade it in they only give you up to $150. I mean that’s awful. They need to make it like the iPhone where they at least give you $200-$250 back and if you have an hermes, give you $500-$600.

    Nice to hear what a true watchmaker thinks about these "smart" watches and I totally agree with him. You can pass a high quality and precise Rolex (or other brand) watch to your children, grandchildren... but "smart" watches are going to end up in trash cans. It is the same with touch phones which are released every year with almost no design change.

    I definitely agree on his point regarding something like this versus the longevity of, say, a Rolex. I just don't get the point of this video; seems like it's just to shit on Apple here.
    The audience for this version - and the celebrities you've seen wearing them - only drive next year's model cars, and live in multi-million dollar homes. Too many Average Joes commenting on a product that's not aimed at them or their finances.

    "high end product" the single difference from the stainless and the edition is the case material... the gold its self is worth nowhere near 10k... you wasted a LOT of money on a useless product.

    • @tylerwalker2
      @tylerwalker2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SnorkFlirt why would you ask me to tell you something you already know?

    • @tylerwalker2
      @tylerwalker2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SnorkFlirt ignorant? how is it ignorant if i know there are almost no watches worth their weight in gold? most people pay 10k 20k, 500k, for a watch because its exclusive, this its a mass produced version of an already mass produced 400 dollar watch.

    • @catc296
      @catc296 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tyler Walker it's 18k composite gold, is it pure 18k gold? NO. It has ceramics and other components to make it harder and stronger, does that increase the value and the cost? yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely NO (unless you are climbing the everest with it). like he said a gold watch should be a jewelry item to be irreplaceable and to las for decades especially a gold watch. This watch is an utter utter waste of money!

    • @catc296
      @catc296 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SnorkFlirt it should last for decades or at least they should service it for a lifetime, most of the wearables that claim luxury prices do, even if rolex or choppard never advertise that their jewelry should last for decades they do. what apple did do was to advertise it as a piece of personal and wearable jewelry which fits it right with the above mentioned.

    • @catc296
      @catc296 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SnorkFlirt on the video they were impressed with he quality more than anything else. on the other side they shouldn't have made it of gold they have some many luxurious materials that do not cost as much and do no prompt the company to be on the mouth of the world for the wrong reasons. If someone wants it they can buy it no one says they shouldn't, everybody is allowed to do as they like mate.

  • @JesusvonNazaret
    @JesusvonNazaret 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    If money doesn't matter because you are rich as sh!t, ok. There is still the gold that will be worth something, but probably much less than you paid for.
    If you spend 10k$ for a proper mechanical watch by a well known brand it's value is much more stable. Depending on the model it's value may increase over time.

    Apple are not exactly environmentally friendly, because they make their products hard to repair and hard to replace batteries.

    • @SalmiakAlert
      @SalmiakAlert 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the point that I'm making. If you can't replace the battery without using a heat gun on glue, buying obscure tools and using above average skill for a user, then it is harder to keep the product going. It is also harder to pass/sell it on to others for them to use, after the original owner buys something newer, faster and shinier.
