I wholeheartedly agree with Reason 7, being the short life. I owned/wore an Apple Watch Series 5 for years, until the battery started to crap out and barely got a day of use before having to recharge it. I initially preordered the Series 9 until I had a reality check and decided that spending $400 every 3 years on an item that does the same functions as my phone (which I carry with me everywhere) is a poor decision financially. For that reason, I purchased a Timex Expedition Scout for $50 at Target and haven’t looked back. I appreciate not being connected all of the time. The watch does everything I need it to do, and I can display some of my personality. One of the best financial/tech decisions I’ve made in recent years.

Why can’t you turn your wrists, do you have an elbow injury? I fractured and dislocated my right elbow and I can’t turn my hand from a neutral handshake position
The Apple Watch is a cool little toy, but it definitely has it cons As u stated, for me it was both having to charge it and the life span of the device I’m better off with a sub $30 Casio
I love my Apple Watch Ultra. When I’m shopping or out. Running errands as much easier to answer the watch than it is to try to pull out a big bone out of your pocket. We live in the modern technology today. Yes there’s always risk with everything. But I’m sure apples doing their best to keep the things secure. I love my ultra watch and would not want to get rid of it. It’s help me in so many ways. But everybody has their own opinion when it comes to that. You can walk out on the street and be hit by a car tomorrow. Any number of things can happen. You just have to use safety precautions whenever you deal with anything.
I agree with everything you said in this video. I remain skeptical about getting one, but if they get better in the future I will take a new look at it. I realize this video is 3 years old now, but from what I have seen nothing has changed so far. Battery life still sucks, they are expensive and all the issues you mentioned remains. I'm slightly optimistic about what Garmin might be able to pull off in 10 years from now, but we'll see.....
It's so hard to find one that just runs standalone, only connecting to the phone when I want it to for simple sync of time and fitness data.. The last one I had would lose over five minutes per day when it wasn't connected.
Yep. I wore my Apple Watch Ultra for one year. I got an automatic watch and sold my Ultra today. I paid $800 ( for the ultra) and the day the new one was announced, it dropped in value by half. I got $460 for it after fees and taxes. The main reason I got rid of it was because I thought it was a backup for my phone so if my phone ever died I could use it. My phone battery died. I tried to use the Apple Watch Ultra ( with $15/month data plan) and none of messages went through. It waited a while, they all turned red. When I contacted ATT they told me the phone has to be on and connected to the network for the messaging apps to work. 🤯 so it’s useless! Apple can try and sell that to someone else. If they fix that problem I might buy another one but I think I’m over it. I like my automatic watch a lot. It’s a micro brand but has a Swiss ETA 2824 movement which by itself is worth as much as I paid for the 300m dive watch with a sapphire crystal and an oyster bracelet.
I have been an Apple Watch user since 2017 and 95% agree. The thing is that I appreciate the aid in improving my health now that I have a chronic condition. The watch has for sure helped me, and that's invaluable. But, but... yes, the lack of uniqueness and character, the square shit, the battery oh the battery! the short span life (I've owned the series 2 and 5) ... because of the health compromise I am going to continue using smartwatches but no more Apple watch... looking forward to a Garmin Fenix 7 pro. it seems to be solid, the lack of petting with the battery at least guarantee that the battery won't die before 5 or more years, unlike the Apple Watch, after only 2 years it's at 80% of health and start to spontaneously die during workouts even at 100% of battery charge... there are many more advantages of Garmin over Apple for my use (topo maps, physiological parameters, battery life, training stats) and taste: not square, but round as a circular timepiece, measuring a cyclical parameter: time.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Watch3. I've got to say, it helped me get into calorie countig. I've lost 10kg because of it, but I feel like wearing my older Fossil watch. I've become more mature nad disciplined and I don't need that much tracking anymore. But I don't know how my parents will react to that, since they bought me that watch. What should I tell them?
Thanks Buddy for this Informative Video. I was about to purchase a Smartwatch from Amazon. But Dumped the idea & purchased a Analog Wrist Watch instead.
This popped up on my recommended feed and I was rather taken aback to hear "Greetings Earthlings!" In that familiar voice. The mic has branched out into watches now?
I have a Samsung Watch 7 and only charge it every other night. If I want just a basic watch it will last a month. I have a job where I have to record the time for activities. I also work around water so it is safer to check messages and alerts on my wrist vs pulling my phone out and making sure it clips correctly. I time food, track steps, speaker phone, weather, etc. It also has enough storage for about 500 songs so I don't need my phone while working out. On top of the other features I use here and there.
I have many watch’s and about two years ago I stopped wearing them. I hate that this small thing is always telling me what I did or am doing & how it matches up to others. Plus, I hate that it throws off my intuition. If I wear a watch, I prefer a small old school automatic watch.
Mine is the opposite.. I am selling my regular watches but will keep only maybe 3 to 4 pcs.. & will start to use my apple watch mostly & daily because I want a useful watch with lots of health features that will take care of me like a personal trainer & doctor.. I can tell time even in my phone so a regular watch is useless for me.. I need a watch that has health technology because I am a fit person & a gym goer.. I always keep track of my health so I need the apple watch a regular watch is useless for me & for me a regular watch is just for formal use when I am going to a formal event only.. but 6 days a week I am at the gym & I even keep track of my sleep.. So a regular watch for me is a dumb watch & useless.. People wearing traditional watches do not care about their health & maybe do not exercise & not a sporty person.. because I believe that if you are a sporty, gym goer & fit person then a smart watch is a must.. But for me I have quartz watches, solar watch, mechanical watches & an apple watch because for me all are good in their own different purposes.. but the most useful for me is the apple watch next is my casio digital watch & last option is my mechanical watch just for formal use..
Are you not concerned about the health risks these smart watches have, such as the bluetooth and radio frequency exposure against your skin? Furthermore, your iPhone does all the same things your Apple Watch does. If you use it mindfully then it could work out better than using your smart watch for gym use.
I quit using a cell phone for two years in the early part of when cell phones became a thing and you could do that. I would feel phantom buzzes in my pockets for months before it went away.
yes very Good reasons! I am about to stop wearing mine also for some of the same reasons plus, I have a Fitbit versa 4 and they now (July 2024) shut down their web dashboard and I absolutely HATE having to check on all my stats on a small cell phone screen, just another reason to give it up...
I had bad experience as one month of wearing Boat smart watch I had constant headache and back ache every day after i get up. I was wearing it continuously so please avoid it long time.I appreciate your feedback its absolutely correct.
I thought I was the only one,I’ve been wearing my garmin like 24/7 and been having headaches and upper backaches until I just saw a vid talking about this . I started taking it off at night and am my backaches are not that bad anymore.
I own so many watches. So many watches. I wear no watches. None. Every so often I'll take one out of a drawer, buy a batter for it and wear it for about two days before putting it back on the drawer.
All fitness devices will track data, and if you do not have to connect them via USB to your computer, it will have an antenna to broadcast that data to your phone/computer. I can’t recall if it was Fitbit or Garmin, but military bases were discovered because the running GPS data was published and they found that people would run around the perimeter of the bases. So I think all of them have some amount of risk.
I like using Garmin watches for training but I never have it connect to my phone for notifications it's just for my training data. I think smart watches are crazy and Garmin has the same issue but there is always a chance of a hack (like Garmin lol).
Yeah, that hack of Garmin is what I was thinking about while reading that. Wasn’t that hack used to locate a bunch of military bases because the enlisted people would run the perimeter of the base?
I loved the very 1st Galaxy Gear. It had a camera which was very useful to me, but it broke and i can't get it repaired & none of thr new watches have a camera. Which is the only reason I would wear a smartwatch so I am now out of the market until something returns with a camera.
If the Apple Watch works for you, that’s all that matters. I was just sharing why I stopped wearing one all day. I still wear one when I work out because it lets me listen to podcasts with my AirPods, track my work out, and have cell connectivity if I need it. It’s a very very functional device.
@@Watchcastage I have a samsung smart watch and I had these questions in my head before as well. That's what I'm looking for. There are some good-looking smartwatches but I really don't need all that crap. Trouble is, unless you use it with a phone app, it will not keep time properly.
I had one setup for a few months, and then unplugged it and threw it at the back of a closet. I have plugged it in twice to film bits with it, but other than that, it’s been unplugged for years.
I also remember Apple being very privacy advocate company, in which there was a time when they wouldn’t even allowed the US government to go into a criminals iPhone…
Battery is enough reason to not use smartwatches. I'll wait until it can hold a month of usage before the next charge. Sleep tracker is useless if you'd need to charge it at night. And kinda dumb to wear it while asleep and charge while you're awake.
Exactly. For a short time I was trying out a Garmin fitness tracker on my other wrist which had some basic sleep tracking and fitness tracking and it had a 7 day battery life, but that habit only lasted a month and a half.
I stopped, wearing wrist watches, and then bought a Apple Watch. After a year, I sold it. I have not worn a watch in three years. In fact, when I looked back most of my life, I did not wear a watch. Yeah, I almost always have to watch with me. when I was younger, I carried a wristwatch in my pocket and later on, I started caring real, honest to goodness, pocket watches. I started out with cheap courts, then went to more expensive courts and then finally to mechanicals. I’m 55 and all I now years is a pocket watch for my phone.
I now only wear my smartwatch when I go for walks and when I sleep and I have it permanently turned on theater mode so the screen never turns on unless I touch it. So I'm in the same boat now.
There should be a BLATANTLY easy to access agreement for the users to chose when they want corporations to fully and permanently delete all their data. It is possible, but you usually have to directly email or write the company to do that.
am a SAMSUNG guy i hate apple products but am with you these smart watches are for kids i rather have all day my OMEGA seamaster300m pro with sedna gold and my planet ocean brown ceramic with sedna gold by omega. ur rolex is beautiful just remember every 7yrs u gotta take it in for service. its not a joke about the nanobots the bilderberg and rockefeller family had a 8min video talking about how they see ppls privacy and tracking them with these devices these 2 families are pure evil that run our world and know everything about u specially by having these watches attached to ur life.
Smart watches = more environmental technology waste. Tradtional analogue watch all the way. The phone does everything. Charging the smart watch all the time is a nightmare.
You can set the Apple Watch to Auto update when it comes in contact with chosen WiFi, you can turn the haptics off, you can turn sleep tracking off, you can turn blue tooth off to stop it sending information to your phone if just GPS model, I like sleep tracking as proven one of the most reliable sleep tracers out there, I like the step counter as encourages me to exercise, yes charging it daily but if you drive just plug in then as does but take long, can be used as remote control for many camera to, there are also plenty of positives to owning one, If you don’t like it sell it or just don’t by one lol 😂
I loved this video!! I got a samsung frontier s3 and loved it for the few months it worked great, but then the GPS stopped working and the step counter wasn't nearly as reliable as my separate tracker, which I was trying to eliminate. I already disable all notifications except calls on my phone so I wasn't worried about double harassment on the watch. In the end I decided they're useless. I love my exercise tracker and I don't need it to do anything else. I'm really close to downgrading to a cell phone that just makes calls because my tablet provides access to all the fun stuff I want without the incessant annoying notifications from calls and texts. Tech should be only as invasive as you want. We do not need to be in abusive relationships with corporations as well as the people we're already hemmed at the hip to!!! Lol!!! I love my friends and family. Samsung, apple and Google, and their cousins do not warrant the same kind of devotion!!!
This is funny how Apple was trying reinvent things were invented centuries ago. And guess what? They advertise that you can change straps! Wow, so innovative. I do not have smart watch but I was planning to get some Garmin for pilots. It may be some useful tool in the air but the need for subscriptions for aviation apps bugs me. The true about smart watches is how to get more and more money out of your wallet.
100% agree on not wanting one more thing to charge. Charging items is double frustrating for me since I live entirely on solar power.

@@thebusinessfirm9862 I haven't gone down the road of fountain pens, so not yet. I don't know if I can afford another expensive hobby/interest.
The reason I’m thinking about getting one is to look at my phone less
Get a standalone unit like Garmin
Why can’t you turn your wrists, do you have an elbow injury? I fractured and dislocated my right elbow and I can’t turn my hand from a neutral handshake position
Lmfao
Man, that Explorer is such a good design.
Probably the best ever IMO.
The Apple Watch is a cool little toy, but it definitely has it cons
As u stated, for me it was both having to charge it and the life span of the device
I’m better off with a sub $30 Casio
I love my Apple Watch Ultra. When I’m shopping or out. Running errands as much easier to answer the watch than it is to try to pull out a big bone out of your pocket. We live in the modern technology today. Yes there’s always risk with everything. But I’m sure apples doing their best to keep the things secure. I love my ultra watch and would not want to get rid of it. It’s help me in so many ways. But everybody has their own opinion when it comes to that. You can walk out on the street and be hit by a car tomorrow. Any number of things can happen. You just have to use safety precautions whenever you deal with anything.
I KNEW IT! The nano bots are here! 😂 great video
The nano bots are everywhere! RUN AWAY!
Sold my smart watch and went back to a solar powered gshock!
I've admired your Tudor for a while now. Wear it in good health!
Thank you very much Sonny.
Turns out that the calorie counts on smartwatches are not accurate at all. It's basically a guess.
feels good to know, I am not alone.
I'm left handed in which hand should I wear my watch. I tried wearing on both but confused which hand I should continue
The mic has branched out into watches now?
haha. yessir.
The phantom buzzes is soo relatable man
I have a Samsung Watch 7 and only charge it every other night.
Welcome to the gshock world 👍
In fact that green light caused my skin problem, became itchy, leaved minor burns, then i have stopped using applewatch
They also emit a small amount of radiation. I used to get such a bad headaches since getting rid of my Apple Watch the headaches have gone away
glad I never got into this trend, prefer a functional watch not a monitor of my activities
@@nandikhumalo5975 That's true , also , avoid keeping cell phone or laptop such devices near you , you will have more sound sleep.
@@nandikhumalo5975 its very harmful, we should avoid keep Cell or laptop near us while sleeping.
I'm going to explore this channel to see, but have you found those watches that run off of stones instead batteries?
I don’t think I’ve heard of anything like that.
I own a Garmin sapphire solar Fenix 7s and just now became sceptical because of yet another device attached to you and another thing to charge...
are there smart/health watches that dont require charging, but use a simple battery ?
Casio GBD-200 is the closest.
I own so many watches. So many watches. I wear no watches. None. Every so often I'll take one out of a drawer, buy a batter for it and wear it for about two days before putting it back on the drawer.
Does all fitness watches track data? If not, I think i should just avoid the apple ones?
All fitness devices will track data, and if you do not have to connect them via USB to your computer, it will have an antenna to broadcast that data to your phone/computer. I can’t recall if it was Fitbit or Garmin, but military bases were discovered because the running GPS data was published and they found that people would run around the perimeter of the bases. So I think all of them have some amount of risk.
Series 10 always on with photos of my family. (Not dull) 😉
At the end of the day, they're just a pain in the arse.
The foul language isn’t necessary
Classic watches are style statement! Timeless!
I agree with your points on this, smartwatches and phones are a double edged sword. There are great reasons to use them and great reasons NOT to.
I agree with most of it but bro, you need to chill about the privacy, no ones hacking you
He trolling 💃
You don't know big tech companies sell your data to 3rd parties, including government agencies? Really?
Bro
The only thing government agencies don’t know about me is the color of my underwear
So I don’t mind sharing my heart rate with CIA
Brooo
Agree
I’m going to share this to my daughters
Thats why i just buy the cheap ones where it only tells time and your fitness tracking. And help me change songs for when I commute
I loved the very 1st Galaxy Gear. It had a camera which was very useful to me, but it broke and i can't get it repaired & none of thr new watches have a camera. Which is the only reason I would wear a smartwatch so I am now out of the market until something returns with a camera.
Most of these issues can be resolved in settings, right?
Just bought my first Apple Watch series 9 two weeks ago. Doh! Still...great video. 👍
If the Apple Watch works for you, that’s all that matters. I was just sharing why I stopped wearing one all day. I still wear one when I work out because it lets me listen to podcasts with my AirPods, track my work out, and have cell connectivity if I need it. It’s a very very functional device.
Your nails are very well cared. Btw good video.
I don’t take care of them too much, I just hate seeing long and dirty nails in videos, especially up close. So I’ll clip them.
@@Watchcastage I have a samsung smart watch and I had these questions in my head before as well. Bluetooth connection is have a very low security. just as you said to be "online" all the time is can be annoying or fustrating. And the prices of the smartwatch is a joke, I bought mine on release for about 300£ now its barely worth 50£ - 100£. I have a fake omega seamaster from my grandpa my dream is to buy an original one when I can afford it. It's insane how many years is gone and it's still a stunning watch.
100%, the Omega Seamasters are stunning watches, and have become so technically advanced with their more modern movements. That’s a great goal to have! I hope one day you’re able to get that Omega of your dreams.
@@L0L0K3 I got my one for $15 and it still has an IP68 Rating, heart rate, sleep tracker, etc.... that a more expensive smartwatch has. only downside is that it uses an IPS LCD display.
I only really use my smart watch for health reasons, I disabled everything that wasn't the heart rate tracking and step counting.
Wow. I'm a little irritated that I didn't realize you had started a dedicated watch channel earlier! Looks like I now have a backlog of watch content to consume! Also, I see you with that Explorer! Beautiful!
Hey! Great to see you! Yeah, just started this a while back to have some fun and share my journey. Yeah, the explorer has ruined everything for me really. It's the perfect size and even the jangly bracelet is amazing.

Hi, is there any way to turn off all the measures on a smart watch and keep only the clock on it ?
That's what I'm looking for. There are some good-looking smartwatches but I really don't need all that crap. Trouble is, unless you use it with a phone app, it will not keep time properly.
Do you own an Amazon Echo? I can't remember if you do, but is security and privacy for it as sketchy?
I had one setup for a few months, and then unplugged it and threw it at the back of a closet. I have plugged it in twice to film bits with it, but other than that, it’s been unplugged for years.
@@Watchcastage Gotcha, I remember one of the "Alex" bits on podcastage for sure
I also remember Apple being very privacy advocate company, in which there was a time when they wouldn’t even allowed the US government to go into a criminals iPhone…
Apple security and privacy is a fallacy
Battery is enough reason to not use smartwatches. I'll wait until it can hold a month of usage before the next charge. Sleep tracker is useless if you'd need to charge it at night. And kinda dumb to wear it while asleep and charge while you're awake.
Exactly. For a short time I was trying out a Garmin fitness tracker on my other wrist which had some basic sleep tracking and fitness tracking and it had a 7 day battery life, but that habit only lasted a month and a half.
That's why I like fitness watches lol.
Smart watches are a dumb way to spend money, no matter how long they holds up
Just use your smart phone lol
@@uhm175 well im pointing out the dumber reason.
I stopped wearing mine because I became allergic to it. Kept breaking out in itchy blisters, no matter how much I washed it or how I wore it.
Yikes. That doesn’t sound enjoyable at all. Was it where the case met your wrist or was it the strap that was causing the reaction?
❤i got the 7 45mm and its just hurting my hands and wrists trying to type and im 25 lol
Great elucidation, valid points all throughout.
We always have to touch the watch to see the time
I now only wear my smartwatch when I go for walks and when I sleep and I have it permanently turned on theater mode so the screen never turns on unless I touch it. So I'm in the same boat now.
Thank you. No one talks about this.
I share the same concerns.
I love my SM watch. I'll never stop
Smart watches = more environmental technology waste. Tradtional analogue watch all the way. The phone does everything. Charging the smart watch all the time is a nightmare.
I love the lizard joke, you speak so eloquently. you need way more subscribers. love from the Netherlands bro
Thank you very much, that is so kind. I’m just having a bit of fun with this so if people subscribe, amazing, if not, amazing. Thank you again.
Couldn't you just bypass the health sensors with tape r paint something like that. And turn off the vibrator.
1:08 lol great minds think alike 😂
