    Been through a couple layoffs. In the long run they always turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

    Yeah I got laid off late last october in a similar way, my boss asked to chat, and joined the teams call with the head of HR and told me they were letting me go that very day.... The funniest part is we had a live push scheduled for 2 days later and I was the main developer who knew that language. When I brought that up they didn't seem to even have thought of that. I tried to prepare the other developers on how to do the live push and what might go wrong, but still something went wrong that they couldn't fix and they had to bring me back on as a temporary contractor for about a month for double my salary lol.

    Remember that scene near the end of ‘Up in the Air’, where the girl fires the man talking through a screen and he’s actually in the next room.
    A harbinger…

    Im so grateful for the Dave Ramsey efforts to coach people to zero debt. But. Knowing what drastic steps need to be taken in the event of income loss. Current conditions dictate an immediate focus on 6 months of bare bones emergency money instead of baby steps...

    It’s cute that people think businesses give a flying French toast about them. Businesses won’t give you the slightest heads up because they know you will start looking elsewhere or not work as hard.

      At the same time, it's odd that businesses think people should give a flying French toast about them anymore. Because of this sort of thing -- the subject of the video.

    Companies will also create conditions and expectations that cause people to quit so that the company leaders can say they didn't lay anyone off during this time.
    For example, there are many companies with hybrid or remote workers. Establishing a 4 or 5 day a week on site RTO plan will cause many people to quit because they can't more or make that drive that many days of the week.
    When that happens, companies will lose weight and save costs since they don't have to pay some salaries or severance packages. The issue is that the people they lose will not always be the low performers. If you are losing weight it's good to know if you are losing fat or losing muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat.
    With layoffs though some companies do help with getting resumes professionally written and connecting former employees with their networks. If people just quit due to new company expectations, none of that is offered. So both have their pros and cons.

    Yet we hear the reason for labour shortages is faltering work ethic and workers not being loyal and committed enough to their employers. Employment is a mutual relationship and employers are not always meeting their responsibilities---as this case exemplifies.

    I work for a large Global Tech company. We were just inspected externally to keep our certification to be able to sell into a specific market. The executive decisions were made at a vp level. They eliminated the person that performs site crisis scenarios. The external inspector said that if they wrote the company up our company would not be able to sell to the market so he refrained from writing it up and gave the company a minor finding for something else instead, putting his job on the line for the company. The big media that keeps publishing bull shit remarks such as "they laid off the fat", are propaganda for these big companies and the conservative public drinks it up.
    "The Leaders" have financial independence so many of them have no clue of who they lay off and what they do. I for one an NOT going to do that person's job unless they add that persons pay to mine, which won't happen.

    I think most everyone would rather want to know there's a possibility of being get go vs being in shock from being get go on the spot. That said, I would be okay, because I have the peace of mind by being financially responsible and having an emergency fund in place. It's all about perspective. Just be smart financially and have a backup plan and being part of a layoff should't feel like the end of the world.

    I guarantee that if Ramsey solutions gets very large and in the future needs to cut some staff, they won't do it in person. There just simply is not enough time in a day or week to sit down with hundreds or thousands of people and let them go. Not realistic. So I have no problem with the way large companies cut people. Gee if this is the worst thing in your life, how you got cut, you need to grow some thicker skin. I have been through multiple cuts, layoffs, even had 1 place where I went to lunch, came back and was told they were closing the doors to the company. Can you stay and turn the gear off and shut the place down. Sure. No problem. Had a job 2 weeks later.

      I work for a fortune 50 company and the last time we had a staff reduction a few months ago, an individual, non-scripted conversation was had with every person with their manager. It can be done if a company wants to do it.

    • @JM.TheComposer
      @JM.TheComposer ปีที่แล้ว

      While I can see your logic, I think you also have to consider the hypocrisy of these large companies: They expect maximum intellectual and emotional commitment. They act like the company mission must be your singular undying passion in life, consuming all your focus and effort. But when it really matters, they fail to realise it's a 2 way street. It is the height of hypocrisy to expect the team to treat the company's goals like their life mission, while also treating the team members like numbers in an accounting spreadsheet.

  • @joelplatt2651
    @joelplatt2651 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I received the news that my section of the department is under considerations for staff reductions this week from my manager. It is quite deflating and anxiety inducing. I can’t say I’m grateful for the transparency yet, but I certainly think that it’s the better of the two paths a manager can take

    Legal Eagles. Please weigh in on Ken's heartfelt version of the layoff. I really like it, but doesn't this open up a company to negative repercussions; as opposed to just saying something vague. Plus if you do a one-on-one doesn't the legal risk increase? Isn't that why company's always have at least one additional person present?

    This isnt something new I have gotten fired and let go for no reason and it hurts like a bitch. I got fired from PD here during my time training for the Reserve Academy because they didnt like my ex GF, freinds and I wasnt even living with her. The day i went to hand in my gear my Supervisor told you didnt do anything wrong it was your back ground this is after I was with the dept for almost a year with no write up and no disciplinary actions. They never told me why I got fired but passed a FBI back Ground check when I applied for my hazmat endorsement on my CDL . I never missed one day of training and I got a 95% on my last written exam with the Academy . I was training so hard to lose the weight and pass my PT test and got shit canned and not told why? Welcome to the world of back stabbers it hurts like a bitch it took me over a year to finally pull out of my depression fired for no reason / Gotta love it

      @Art Garfunkle You will never understand the love I had for Law Enforcement it was like a drug crack for a crack head its addicting . I loved it with all my heart I couldn't wait to go to work. I gave it my all the PT training trying to get into shape for the PT and going to every day of training for the Reserve Academy . I never missed one day. I was never reprimanded in almost the year I worked for them. Run run run push ups cross training weight lifting pushing your self and tell your self I am goiing to make Reserves I am going to make Reserves and then after all that work being told YOUR FIRED ! WE WILL NOT TELL YOU WHY ! And then you supervisor Trout en tells you to your face when you hand in your gear ,YOU DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG ! IT WAS YOUR BACK GROUND@ So let me understand this I passed your back ground and got hired for Elko PD but now I am fired because of my Back Ground ? All my work all my work outs I was so out of shape and over weight and I pushed myself so hard to get it off so I could pass the PT and pass the Reserve Academy and it all came crashing down nobody cared how hard I worked or how hard I tried . I felt like I had a family there it was a place I was starting to fit in. I was liked so well there the girls up front suggested I make and appointment with trout en to try and get my job back . I left a message with him to set up a appointment it just got shit canned and deleted he never returned my call. So when I tell you I went into deep depression I really did go into a very deep depression. I even went to the Mayors office and did an official request under the terms of Under the Freedom of information Act I am requesting the reason I was discharged? What they did is denied I went to the Reserve academy and said the department I was working in Citizens Patrol was disbanded and that was the reason I was let go but also told hey would not hire me back. I set up another appointment with the Mayor again went in and slapped down my training manual from the academy that I had copied off the CD at my own expense and told him If I never went to the Academy then why do I have this training manual ? I asked him again if he would ask and he never called me back . To this day I do not know why I was fired. i will miss this job until I draw my last breath I truly gave it my all ! So this girl that got fired in the Video dont feel like the lone Lost Ranger People have gone through a lot worse . I am better now I have moved on but the first year sucked balls! I still miss it to this day ☹

      @madmanmechanic8847 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Art Garfunkle Thank you so much for that Art I really do appreciate it. I dont want to be an attorney I just wanted to get into Law Enforcement there is days you get to do some good and help somebody that is the drug part of it. I know there are bad cops out there but I can tell you first hand when they open the door and you get in , and they door does exist and it exist for a reason you will meet some of the nicest people you ever met. Yes there are dicks and back stabbers you find those every where., The one thing I really enjoyed is when they let their guard down and start telling you stories . But you have to gain their trust and at the time I had the trust of not only my Supervisor Trouten but most of the guys I knew on the force. they even said you have a right to know why you were fired after they shit canned me for no reason . I will miss it until I draw my last breath. I truly felt like part of the family I would of laid my life down for any of those guys . When you are family you need to have their back and they can count on you1Thank you for the kind words I really do appreciate it
