- Day 3 of the Pathfinder Railtours ‘The Grampian Highlander’ with Class 50 Alliance owned double-headed class 50 ‘Hoovers’ 50049 ‘Defiance’ leading 50007 ‘Hercules’, at speed, on the last leg down the ECML through York and onwards to Wakefield Kirkgate and over the Pennines via Huddersfield to Stockport and eventually to Taunton (just over 12-hours).
While we waited the rare sight of a pair of TransPennine Express Nova1 sets, still in self-powered mode (the catenary is nearly commissioned), on parallel lines and an unexpected Colas / Network Rail class 43 HST on New Measurement Train duties (the line speed on the two far, ‘Leeds’, lines is due to be increased sometime in 2025 from 90 mph to 125 mph as part of the TransPennine Upgrade project).
Plus bonus archive footage: SR Battle of Britain class 34067 ‘Tangmere’ on ‘The Scarborough Spa Express’ on the following Thursday afternoon, 29th August 2024.
All filmed on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) south of York with an Android phone (and trying out an Insta360 Ace Pro camera in 4K).
Thank you for watching and hope you enjoyed this video as much as I had chasing and filming it over that Bank Holiday Monday. Sorry for the very late publication; Autumn 2024 threw up some challenges.
