  • This video shows Pt 2 of my 1/1000 scale U.S.S. Excelsior model build series. Here we see some more work installing the lighting and control boards in the saucer section of the model. Also a look at the completed secondary hull and warp engines in some low lighting to see the effects.

    Absolutely amazing as always Boyd! You inspired me to get back into modeling a few years ago and now I have so many I'm running out of room! But there's so many great kits out now from shows and movies we grew up with that it's hard to resist. Plus all the incredible lighting kits available now thanks to Ralph at Tenecontrols. Can't wait to see this finished masterpiece!

    Looks beautiful, Boyd. I have never really liked this design, but now have a greater appreciation of it.
    I won't be surprised if one of your builds actually becomes real and warps away.

    wow. if you're going to have only one sound effect, it has to be Sulu's ( HA! palindrome!) "target" order. i'm going to get into a build with a lego lighting kit from lightailing, but i'm not doing nearly as much work as you. awesome instruction and presentation. i'll be coming back for reference.

    Hey Boyd! We always appreciate you build series to "roadmap" for us! I was wondering how you opened the 6 planetary sensor holes for floodlights on the underside of the saucer?

    How did you manage to cut out the rectangle holes for the planetary sensor? I can't get a drill or dremmel tool close enough to get it at a good angle.

    Question: How did light come through the very bottom circular window sections at the Saucers edge and light getting through for the bottom two RCS Thruster ports?...the bottom plate of the Saucer blocks those Thrusters and circular widows at the bottom edge cause of the thickness of the bottom Saucer Plate.

    Hey Boyd, I have a question. I've been away from my model projects for some years. Do you have a video demonstrating how to use the power supply to test smd/led. I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot how to use my power supply.

    Hey Boyd....is this a client build or more of a project/teaching build? Either way thanks for the time you take to show us these Cool techniques.....Todd.....BTW been able to put away that 'space' heater yet?

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the viewers of the show sent me two of these kit's so I figured I should build at least one of them for now.
      It has been fun to work on and solve some problems with trying to get it lighted and look good at such a small size.

    Looks Great Boyd. Can you confirm what this Crystal clear is you use for Windows please?

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's made by Micro scale and called micro krystal clear. It comes in a small bottle and looks like Elmer's glue.

    later in DS9 USS Lakota same ship as Excelsior but it a have quantum torpedoes if remember right did any trouble with Warp nacelle like the uss enterprise B did boyd

    • @DelcoRanz93
      @DelcoRanz93 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually she was the same ship as the Enterprise-B, The Reason for that was because when they added parts to the Excelsior model to make the Enterprise-B they used a glue that damaged the model when they tried to remove the additions. That's why a new model was built for Voyager's "Flashback"

    wanst it possible to used neon lights on the warp engines? there are a few small enough that i think they could give out a more homogenous felling and light concistency there, again great work

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several reasons why neon lights are not used in these small models. They require a ballast resistor and they operate at high voltage ac current. They also have a limited lifespan compared to LEDS, which last hundreds of thousands of hours. Also, neon lights generate a lot of heat which would not be good inside a small non ventilated area like we have here.

      thanks for the input i always thought it could be possible to fit then but you do have a point, im making a headrest inverted lamp whit a small scaled enterprise-e, wen i finish it ill share some photos of it

    Boyd, I was wanting to light up a Trek model. I would be my very first one, so can you tell me what Trek model would make a good first time build? Something easy is what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go to my videos list and go way back to when I started I was just starting out doing lighting.
      I chose some really simple Trek models and I explain what I did to light them. All of those kits are still easy to find.
      Good luck and have fun with it.

      if I may suggest the Maquis fighter from star trek voyager is a simple build and easy to light! and when finished is a decent size and a great looking display model, Dave.

    Hi Boyd! This is turning out great! I've contacted Orbital Drydocks, he is"Maybe" going to do an Aztec paint mask for the excelsior .. maybe, hopefully, I'm waiting for a bit to see if he does!
    Hopefully this post catches you before you put on the top of the saucer, Noticed that the window placement on the Upper saucer part ( not the rim, above that) is inaccurate, there's a set of windows straight ahead, and others are inline with the RCS thrusters.
    Its not a big deal, but I know alot of people that try to be as accurate as possible, so I try to help when I see a flub :)

    Love your work Boyd, but the strobing lights, why? They ruin it for me. The strobing lights make it look like a toy to me. It's like having a model car with blinkers on, running constantly. I bet that get's pretty annoying sitting in your livingroom real soon :)
