  • In this video I show you the display stand I'll be using to mount the model and also
    some interesting features it will have. Next, I discuss the paint I'll be using to finish the model and demonstrate how to mix and spray it on. I start off with the main deflector housing which is the first part of the model to be painted!

    I grew up watching the low quality repeats of Star Trek in the early 70's. And to me the hull color looked like a light biege. So when I got my very first 1701 kit that's exactly what I did was paint it beige. (I thought it looked good too)..
    It's so nice now to know exactly what the color should be if I ever build another one

    Ta da. 1. Love your channel. 2. I don't mean to sound like a Prick, and I have little room to talk as I have not done near as much as you on YT with displaying My modeling talents, but I and others are wondering if you got burned out on this project, and or when you might be working on it again.
    3. Also, I think there is one other modeler on YT that was building this model, and If memory serves me right who ever produced these models don't make them any longer.
    4. I started an Archery company, and I sell custom Archery bows, which is slightly off the point with Star Trek, and or Modeling, however in making our custom bows, we purchased 4 3D printers and are looking at purchasing some larger ones in the near future. So the idea of making a 1/72 scale Constitution class TOS Starship is one step closer to being a possibility for me.
    I have already scaled plans for all 3 ships from the show several years ago, and was surprised at the 13 foot and quarter inch length of the Constitution class was how large it would be in 1/72 scale.
    The Romulan Bird of Prey (Balance or Terror, TOS) in contrast is near 3 feet long x 4 feet wide x 19 inches tall.
    Yea they really made them look quite larger for the TV screen.
    I do think with the world filling up with 3D printers there can be and will be some cool modeling projects coming about. both in scratch build, and model kits/parts.
    Anyway, if I start building I think the Romulan first as it is the smallest and would be a good test to start with, I will make some logs. I just have to balance it in with My string tying for the bows, and the painting/assembly for the archery. That is work though and hobbies can also be work, but they should be fun as well.
    Keep on a modeling, and I will be in touch.
    Great channel you have going here, I will endeavor to get mine into focus as well.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and best of luck with your projects. I agree, 3 D printing opens up an unlimited amount of possibilities for scale modeling.

    • @TwistedSisterHaratiofales
      @TwistedSisterHaratiofales 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrekWorks Thank You for the reply. LOL, I assume the people that made the Bridge for the model kit can 3D print you a 158 scale Shuttle Craft for it, if they already didn't.
      If not give me a holler and I will see if I can pop one out on My chemical printer.
      Honestly I am about a hairlength away from getting My business partner excited enough about the Idea of designing a 158 scale TOS Romulan BOP.
      I have the plans for 1/72 as I have mentioned before, but I also have the 3D model of the ships in Blender files. So all I would need to do is run the scale measurements so we can STL close loop the parts, and then make the parts to fit into the size range to put together like a puzzle. Easy right.
      The scaling wouldn't be hard. The design for the printer would be.
      I don't know. If we start working on it. I will post. Peace out Boyd. Eldan at Blue Dragon Archery.

    As always your builds and videos are outstanding.
    I have a word of caution however regarding your tall stand. I have and use the stand with the lights from the home improvement store. I find that when the stand is extended as you are proposing it can be top heavy and can tip. I would be concerned that with the additional weight and height of the model that there would be a potential hazard of it getting tipped over especially if people are interacting with it. You might want to consider a way to secure the legs to a wider base with some weight or heft to balance it better.

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll be doing some testing to see how the balance works out. No one will actually touch the model when it's on display. it will function by Remote.

    You could do the console in the style of the original series control panels on the bridge. To reduce glare, the screen could be recessed an inch or two. That would allow you to make a cover in the style of the old buttons for de-powered static mode.

    • @TrekWorks

    • @TrekWorks

    What are the numbers for the paint? Looking online I can find FolkArt but not Heather Gray. Same goes for Anita's...

      I order my paints from Hobby Lobby online. They list every color they have there. Many are less than a dollar a bottle. The Anitas Heather Gray is number 308067 and the Folk Art Faded Jade is 4667
