I just did this .took me 4 hrs .Took a break and went at it again .I bought some of those long needle picks .i put the top screw part on first used the picks to run it inside the circular gasket .I found every time i stuck the bottom gasket in it would pop the top out .so once the top part was in i screwed the screws half way in so it wouldnt pop out anymore.Then since the lower half was still out i made sure the bottom gasket tips where in first and started stuffing it in whit a flat new screw driver slowly ,tapping it in and runing the pick around the inner small gasket like you would do a bike tire. Fit really snug.i also added extreme rtv before i completely pushed it in .
This method will work better if you cake on RTV where the seal sits and take your finger run it smooth you'll have zero leaks. I did this with my 05 g35 it's been about 2 months now not a single drop on the cardboard I leave under the car. 😁👍🏽
You mean leave the rubber seal out, install the plate, then pump the gap with RTV and smooth it out? Or put a bead of RTV on the plate where the seal sits, then install the plate?
I wouldn't file or sand down ANY seals. I would follow the manufacturers suggested advice for removal & installation. As for selling it and letting it become someone else's problem..... that sucks.👎
@@benddover3093 no. I was being sarcastic. Everything needs to come out. The trans and clutch and to do it right the upper oil pan. It’s a lot of work.

sir do you know if this rear main seal is one size for all VQ series engine? mine is a vq20de..the one i've seen online says it fits 20de 30de 35de

Lot of work for it to leak still
the upper and lower oil pan need to be removed to install this seal. i have seen it done without removing but that method is only about 75% effective.
Why would u do 85% of the work and do it half ass. Or even take a chance of it still leaking.

It leaks ever so slightly. It’s a bit better than the old 127k mile seal though
