Very interesting on the electrolytes. I follow the usual advice which is to have electrolytes drinks or gels, but I've always wondered if it's just the sugar and sodium that pulls me through a long run.
Yep I found it interesting that it’s only them in the whole industry that goes against the grain. I think it’s more to do with conditioning than a simple case of “more hydration and electrolytes” which people seem to first recommend. Which can be good advice if you felt you were indeed under hydrating or mega hot conditions but cramping in cool conditions being on top of the hydration and electrolytes in fuelling means personally for me it’s down to something else.
Try the Maurten 320 mix drink once you start your longer long runs (18 miles up). It may help contribute preventing cramp on the day. That and taking regular gels out on course along with water. 😊👍🏼 Great vlog William. Looking forward to following you achieve sub 3 at Manchester!
Yea had the drink mix before. I’m actually thinking to not take gels for the next marathon. I tried chews and found they are quite nice to take, so thinking to use chews completely.
As a late-stage-marathon cramp sufferer myself, I’m also desperate for a fix. Sadly, I’ve also heard that it’s just physical condition above what we achieve through high mileage running, and so I’ve been pushing to do more strength and conditioning. (With that said - I’m still playing around with salt tablets, doses of Celtic Sea Salt, and I’ll be pocketing one of those “CrampFix” sachets come Manchester, haha.) Great coverage of the show. Cheers!
Regarding your comment around mid video and your cramping issue, you said that you took loads of electrolytes before a marathon and still got cramp. Unfortunately the body works in mysterious ways, and sometimes more is not better, the body when it has a higher intake of electrolytes can actually ''flush'' them out at a quicker rate..those salt tabs may actually be what your missing.
Yea I mean not loads but the normal during loading phase and morning and during. I’m not really a heavy sweater either. I will continue to have them in my products but I don’t think I’ll be adding more to be honest. I also find nearly everyone running under sub 3 don’t even take extra water too. Which I normally do with hydration tabs in.
@@tworunningbrooms there are some energy gels nobody has tried that I'm aware off, I'm thinking of putting that together on a long run, probably not what you think 😉
It's funny how different companies utilize PR spin to suit their own narrative for profit growth. Who actually knows where the truth lies ...?... hence the trial and error methodology that runners have to incorporate into their life long learnings
Yeah agree. I think a lot of people just go around repeating what they see from marketing spin. Admittedly I did regarding electrolytes and cramp etc but took some time to do some reading about all the actual studies and found it was fairly small scale and non conclusive. I feel most companies will just follow each other and want to make sure they have a product in the mass consumer market. I mean I also read there is no negative side to using electrolytes so I’ll still use them if they are in my fuel I choose to use but I won’t go out my way to adding more and worry about it as much. I’ll focus on strengthening and conditioning my legs on the long runs and strength work.
Great to meet you. Thanks for the chat 😁
Same, hope you had a good event.

Send in the sugar police! Interesting feedback from Maurten. I would agree that cramping towards the end of the marathon is due to training and pacing

Really enjoyed that. Dan makes a great sidekick 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it

Yea I think for me I’m gonna not worry about the hydration and electrolytes as much and focus on conditioning for sure.

Looks a decent show. I'll have to try and get there one year. A bit more to do than just shop too
You would love it mate and you can stop off near here and we can meet for a run too.
@@TheWu sounds like a plan 😊
Run the Planet would love this. The only videos I've seen more energy intake are his long run workouts 😂

Reminds me of my kid eating all that sugar, he would have loved that!
Hope you didn't have a gut bomb on the drive home.
Lol just a headache for me and Danny said he couldn’t sleep that night.

@@TheWu exactly 💯
After all the sugar, did yous leave there with diabetes? 😂
I can confirm I had a headache that night and Danny said he couldn’t sleep. 😂
@TheWu got to take the freebies though 👍
