      Yeah at first glance the reticle feels a little overwhelming. Once you spend some time behind it in a practical application like this using it becomes very natural. If you decide to snag one and try it for yourself you’ll have to let me know how you like it!

    Arken EP8 is my go-to for putting on my "hand out" battle rifles. Once it's set up, the end user doesn't need to know anything about ballistics, MOA, MRAD, ect. They just need to range, hold, and understand the most basic concepts for calling wind. I go 1 farther when I set them up, I dial out the spin drift for a 0 wind at 800. Just like the elevation "truing" it simplifies the set up for battlefield accuracy.

    Excellent demonstration of this reticle, I was a bit confused on this BDC reticle before. As you point out, this is a combat accurate reticle and seems to work really good for ranging torso size targets, but I don't care for the clutter compared to the ACSS reticle or traditional ACOG RCO. But the bottom line, it works very well!! Great review Zak!

    This is pretty cool and seems to work well. For the price this LPVO seems pretty good. Their SH 4-16 is really awesome too although it’s heavy and the turrets are massive. If Arken would make this LPVO in a mil based reticle with a tree I’d buy it yesterday. Even if they made it with the KL Box in mils I’d be happy. Gotta love that price and 34mm tube for all the light. Thanks for a great breakdown of what looks like a very unorthodox reticle.

    Things I've leaned from your channel
    1: the "cheap" gear often works as good, or better than, the ultra expensive name brand stuff.
    2: never ever, under any circumstances, ever buy a tacticam or triggercam scope camera.
    Keep up the good work Sir

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, agree with both of your points. Certainly higher priced gear has its place and advantages in certain areas but as shown in many of my videos, more affordable options can perform much better than people give them credit for.
      On the cameras…. The tactacam I had was really bad, I don’t see myself ever purchasing another one of those. The trigger cam is MUCH better but as you’ve seen also has its own issues. I really like the trigger cam for several reasons and will continue to run mine… might even pick up a second one to make life a little easier.

    • @joearledge
      @joearledge 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MountainsMulletsMerica I swear I've seen your trigger cam go down multiple times. Maybe I'm wrong and it was always the tactacam. Either way, I hope you get one that's reliable. Scope cam videos are very helpful, especially for new shooters. Anyway, keep up the good work.

      Yeah my opinion this reticle is very useable and not something I’d describe as a gimmick. With a bit of practice you’ll he able to quickly and easily put rounds on unknown distance torsos. First round impacts might be tough depending on conditions but you’ll be able to get in the ball park with the first round and then rapidly make a correction and send a follow up if needed.

    I swap this scope on any new rifle I want to load test while I’m deciding on the actual optic I want to use… the aiming point is great for zeroing. I struggle to enjoy it in any other use off the range, however, seeing as nothing I shoot w my 556 rifle (either the bullet/rifle combo or the animals) really match up with the BDC of this scope. I do love their normal scopes and my 18” 6 arc lives w the 5-25 arken which has been excellent for hunting and plinking. The search for a good FFP LPVO reticle continues…

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica

      There isn’t a need for a 20moa mount with this optic. I don’t have plans to shoot this optic to any kind of extended ranges so 0 moa is fine… also keep in mind the reticle is designed for you to shoot out to 800 yds so that can be achieved within the optic/ reticle without dialing making the can’t of the mount irrelevant assuming you can achieve the proper zero.
      I get asked this question a lot so I’ll likely make a video around the topic very soon

    Awesome vid man! I purchased one last year on hopes and dreams and it did not disappoint. Is it odd that it does not have a 300yd box though?

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah not sure why there isn’t a 300 yd hold in the reticle…. Just a guess but I wonder if the 300 yd ranging box would interfere with the center dot/ circle and that’s why isnt there?
      Glad you enjoyed the video!

      No payment from Arken for this video specifically. The scope was sent to free as have all of my Arken scopes….. my affiliate/ discount code does provide me a bit of a monetary kickback whenever people use the code for a purchase though.

    Brown box IMI 77gr SMK is way better in my testing. Battle rifles ~ 0.75 to 1.25 MOA, precision build sub 0.5MOA 10 shot groups at 100 yrds, and the brown box are spicier by about 100 FPS roughly.

    Interesting innovation with the hand guard bipod, only downside I’m seeing if you can adjust cant with it

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah the handguard is really slick…. Best part about it for me is how clean the bottom of the rifle is. The bipod does have the ability to cant as well adjust the leg length as needed…. The only downside I’ve seen so far is the small bipod feet have a tendency to sink into some soils… the are small so they sink into muddy or sandy soils pretty easily

    Been running the pa 1x8 acss reticle for years. Spent all my gun money on a full custom gamer gun that's at SAC right now. I am looking for glass just not this kind. I wish you would do a comparison between hi mag scopes like mk5 HD, rzr g3, apex rival 4x32, w no arken(sorry). Not on a 5k+ rifle. All of these scopes dropped heavily in price(used mk5 7x35 $1400-2k +$400 for the rzr). I am spoiled for choice. Love the clr reticle in the apex, not a fan of the tremor 3. Its too busy for me. I have been able to look through all but the apex but not at the same time. I like how you give us the facts and real world use w limited bias(don't change that).

    Arken just give us a mil Christmas tree reticle 1-8

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yesss!!! The kl box reticle is cool but I also love a mil based Christmas tree in an lpvo. I’d love to see this as well!

    • @hopewilliams6705
      @hopewilliams6705 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MountainsMulletsMerica Me also! Arken could do it well and keep the price of entry down like there other options! I believe they would have the market cornered, since I started shooting out to 6 & 800 yards the ability to make precision hits is my concern. I don't want a gross aiming solution for a large target. I have a really cheap sfp 1-6 lpvo that is as fast as want up close but out past 200yds put on 6x and hit 6in plates out to 600yds with ease. The glass is not great but useable

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      From what I’m seeing it dependent on the particular rifle/ barrel nut and handguard setup. I have plans to release a video showing testing of my various setups…. It’s not a guarantee you’ll see shift but certainly something to keep in mind and check for on your setup.

  • @johnhall1382
    @johnhall1382 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Another informative and helpful video thank you!
    As for the reticle, what I got out of it, you mentioned it was designed for certain bullet weights. Also what do I do if my targets are not 18x32 IPSIC targets? how do I use the reticle if I am shooting a 10 in round plate? guess my point is, As much as I love Arken scopes, this one ..at least the reticle falls short. Perhaps Arken would be better suited to offer different reticles for this scope.

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Can’t argue with you here…. This reticle works well with a full size torso but as conditions change or targets become partially exposed it would make things more difficult. It’s worth noting, the reticle is calibrated for ranging using a head (9” item) using the dot for each distance up to the horizontal line above. This might be a way to help expand the versatility of the optic.
      Ultimately though, I agree with you. Bdc/ rapid ranging reticles are great but a mil based Christmas tree type reticle would be a nice option for this lpvo.

  • @johngalt176
    @johngalt176 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    IMO, most ranging reticles will work as long as you learn your dope, i.e. time with your gun, optic and ammo. For complete novices the KL box may be more or less intuitive. The ACSS from PA seems to offer more windage hold off points

  • @nicolatesla768
    @nicolatesla768 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great performance providing your target is static, facing you, and not obscured by cover. In a real world scenario that would be unlikely, most of the time.

    • @MountainsMulletsMerica
      @MountainsMulletsMerica  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s where the 9” ranging capability would be an option. That’s sized correctly for a head sized target which in many cases might be more visible than a full torso.
      Fair point though, performance will be condition dependent. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!

  • @xforce708
    @xforce708 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I liked the set up. Not sure how it’d help in a battle scenario and camo. But it’s better than nothing too. I’m guessing that in real life I’d do just like deer hunting a use a range finder to range some landmarks.
