@Mountains, Mullets, Merica! Your channel is head and shoulders above any other like channel that I've found. The way you share your info allows me, as a noob distance shooter, the ability to easily understand and apply the info. Thanks for taking the time to do it!

In the army we used a 25/300 meter zero. When I went to drill sergeant school in 2009 the Army Marksmanship Unit came in as part of a test to change the zero to a 200 meter zero, basically to “flatten” the trajectory of the bullets and eliminate most of the hold over. You could basically hold dead center on any target out to 200 meters and then aim high center mass on the 250 and 300 meter target. All this was based off average engagement distances the army was reporting. Since we couldn’t change the standard zero range distance of 25 meters, we had to use the offset on our standard zero targets. It worked well for qualifying but never really caught on because big army is loathe to change anything and most people in the army don’t really understand ballistics. I used it until I retired because it made too much sense for me not to do it.

Very well explained/illustrated Zach. I didn't understand this concept at all until got more into shooting long range and using ballistic calculators. Eventually I had the typical "light bulb moment" about BDC reticles. Prior to that I thought they were useless unless you were using the exact gun/ammo combo they were originally meant for. I foresee my future self linking many people to this video lol
This video was outstanding! You did a great job explaining how to use the Eotech. I'd love to see you explain how you get your mil reticle holdovers? A mil reticle video would definitely be something I'd love to watch. I still haven't quite figured out how to get the most out of those scopes. But I'd love to learn.
It’s funny I just found your channel yesterday, and just today I was at the range truing my Trijicon Credo using this same technique! My BDC is made for M193 out of a 16” barrel and a 100-yrd zero, but using a 50 yrd zero allows your holds to match up perfectly when using 75 gr BTHP. Great video and great channel!
So helpful! The vortex video is similar but this is more fun. Ive never thought much about shooting past 300 yards and recently got to shoot at 500. Between you and X-Ring i knew i needed a ballistic calculator. After dialing up 8 moa on my 4x low-end vortex LPVO i made a first round impact at 500 on an 18x24 plate. Can't wait to shoot that far again
Thank you. I bought this same scope and set it on my 300 blk and really needed this information. I know they make one specifically 300 blk but I wanted the ability to put it on a 556 down the road if need be. I appreciate it.
Truly another banger, what a great video. Incredibly informative as always with immediate results to show what you've explained. Easily my favorite long range shooting channel

Outstanding content in this video (and all the others BTW)! Very enjoyable Zach. I really appreciate how you present a concept and then prove it in practice. Some years ago when I got my Kestrel, I quickly realized how easy it would be to switch between various loads. I never fully developed and validated the concept in my system however. Very good info here! Thanks!!
Crazy I just watched an old Brass Facts video on this subject two days ago and then this drops. I plan on doing this with an 11.5" and Vortex razor 1-6 bdc.

Love hearing that you find value in the videos and as always I appreciate the continued support! Running a 556 bdc on a 9mm might not work out super great though as those cartridges have extremely different ballistics. I believe trijicon publishes data for their BDCs so it would be easy to run numbers through a calculator and see how feasible it might be
Great videos, always enjoy! Good info here. I want to add an option on ballistic calculators. Strelok Pro has an option to choose what reticle you're using. And based on your load inputs, it just shows your subtensions for that particular load. It's very handy for BDC reticles and calibers other than what it was intended for.
@MountainsMulletsMerica I just realized it isn't on the app store anymore but you can Google the name and it's available to download, iOS and Android versions. It's a very good ballistic app and easy to use.
great video. But I think it makes more sense just to know your zero distance like if you've done in the beginning of the video for these 3 dots, rather than adjusting main zero to get better results at distance. If you are in any kind of group or unit, all the rifles and gear should have same zero distance, so if you are in urgent need to grab someone's rifle or need a replacement, you can use your pal's gear without some individual adjustments. It's better to keep 50/200 zero for every gear.
@@MountainsMulletsMerica I share lots of them with my group I train with. They love your stuff. Keep up the great info. I'm just getting into long range and your channel is concise and to the point and very easy to learn from.
My main 2Gun Rig is 13.9" with EXPS2-2 paired with VORTEX MICRO 3x MAGNIFIER. This is my preferred setup for 500Y and in. With my Eotech top dot is 50Y , bottom dot is 470Y & in between dots is 360Y . IMO it's the absolute best setup for 2Gun 500Y and in . When shooting 2Gun Matched BC Steel is about the smallest target when shooting past 300Y . It's not like me are shooting Skinny Sammy's at 400Y .. In my area we are starting to see a rack of dudes ditching LPVOs and going to Red dot / HWS paired with 3x MAGNIFIER. I'm sure I'm a big factor of why because I usually smoke dudes on Long Range stages with my setup and shred on short range targets . I usually finish in the top 10 at certain certain matches and top 25 at other matches. What I've noticed is when shooting in wide open area targets dont seem to be as far away as you think . Meaning 3x is all I need to bang BC Steel Target at 450Y . When shooting under pavilion / shooting at covered range . It seems like no matter what zoom I'm at I cannot see the target as well as I want too . I'm guessing my optic is not being able to gather enough light .. Awesome video bro and love the channel ..
Great video as always, seeing that 6 ARC makes me wonder: What are your thoughts on or experiences with 6.5 Grendel? I'm currently in the process of a build and always wanted a 6.5 Grendel but 6 ARC keeps gaining ground. Any input you may have would be very helpful.
I have the Sig 4t pro rds with similar BDC dots. Unfortunately, I can't find the distances for them anywhere. I'm going to have to reach out to them or something, but this was a really cool video to show the versatility of this style of optic.
You can measure them on a 50 yd target by using each hold, measure between them and multiply x2 for the MOA spread. 100 yds is proper but 50 is easier.
This is great! I’m building a 6ARC upper and i saw a sale Primary Arms Apollo reticle scope calibrated to 6.5 CM 140 gn. It is uncanny how somehow you come out with the same concept i intend to figure out how the bdc of the Apollo would match up the 6ARC 105gn!!!
28:26 you don't have to get the reticle information, you can measure out inches on your target and then see where the marks line up looking through your optic, I've even just taped a tape measure up on a board and stood it up then went back 100 yards and looked at it through my optic
Great info. I've actually done similar for a 10.5 Grendel using a 7.62x39 BDC. BTW, Hornady lists a G1 BC of .530 for the 6mm 105 BTHP. Where did .445 come from?
This is the shooter ballistic calculator by Kennedy development group. Costs something like $10 in the App Store. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I have this optic, is the eotech the best magnifier for it? It is def one of the most expensive, but is there an equal magnifier for less? I see you're liking the new Magpul adjustable stock. I do have one of the DT stocks. It's good, but I still love the CTR stock as much as. Anyway, i'm doing alot of talking to no one, but I feel better.
Best magnifier for price? I think&say so- yes! Absolutely. They make some of the best when it comes to pairing up. That said, I think it's fairly subjective to a minor degree. You can grab any new model eotech magnifier for $650 and under. New aimpoint models are significantly higher $$ than that and not any better IMHO. I know ya didn't ask this but if ya don't want to pay eotech/aimpoint prices, next in line would (holosun/primaryarms). What do you think about the eye relief?

You need a little flag to stake in yer vids to always show us how wicked that wind rips there..yer shirt told the tale though..I have the Nikon ar optics bdc600 which is fir 55gr@3240fps and I’ve got 40gr v max runnin 3390-3400fps so I’m gonna try it..👊🏻
Love just about everything griffin makes, including the handguards. The set screw on the side that goes into the barrel nut doesn't make much sense to me though, wonder why they do that
Dude I like this idea! Assuming the durability is where it needs to be this would be epic…. Could really revolutionize the industry. Hopefully someone from eotech will see this comment haha
Literally impossible, you could replace the entire piece of glass the reticle is recorded onto and that actually was a feature in a predecessor to the eotech, you just lose durability, water resistance and it all being enclosed in one unit
If Eotech can make a biohazard reticle, they should be able to make a variety of reticles calibrated to whatever barrel length, caliber and design you want. They have the less lethal reticles with windage, so why not add windage references and a dedicated quick ranging reticle on the side of the window?

@@MountainsMulletsMerica Thank you for answering my question. You have by far the best TH-cam channel for shooters and gun enthusiasts! in which you explain how each caliber, scope , reticle, barrel length, ballistic data, distance, night vision, suppressor works In laymen’s terms. Also I’m going to have to add that kAC suppressor that blows out the front to my trust very soon, I’ve always been A slincerco man.
You had me until you stated that you had to move your target. In there lies the biggest issue with a BDC reticle and the lack to dial in the distance or get a proper hold based off limited reticle details. Great job at showing us a design of experiments verification, but totally impractical.

Great content, as always.
That 6arc is insane 😲😲
28:26 you don't have to get the reticle information, you can measure out inches on your target and then see where the marks line up looking through your optic, I've even just taped a tape measure up on a board and stood it up then went back 100 yards and looked at it through my optic
Great info. I've actually done similar for a 10.5 Grendel using a 7.62x39 BDC. BTW, Hornady lists a G1 BC of .530 for the 6mm 105 BTHP. Where did .445 come from?
Awesome video! Love your channel!
Appreciate the support! I’m always working on new content so hope you’ll stay tuned to check it out!
Great informative content. Cheers
Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Too much math for me, glad you understand it. ✌️
got 2 scopes that need to be re-zerod and saved this video to help in that
Thank you, this is so informative!! What ballistics calculator are you using?
This is the shooter ballistic calculator by Kennedy development group. Costs something like $10 in the App Store. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
@@Genessis001 I have seen that all eye relief is about the same no matter what magnifier it is.
Yeah I'll definitely try it
The biggest thing I’ve learned from watching this channel is that it isnt the capability of the optic, it’s the the capability of the shooter.
Great video bro!
Looks like i have a learning curve to do.
Awesomesauce…. 💥 What ballistics app are you using?
This is the shooter ballistic calculator by Kennedy development group. Costs something like $10 in the App Store. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I've ran the exps3-4 on a lot of different calibers, 556, 308 etc.
Idk if I have a "system" per se, I just calculate it using streloc and print dope.
You need a little flag to stake in yer vids to always show us how wicked that wind rips there..yer shirt told the tale though..I have the Nikon ar optics bdc600 which is fir 55gr@3240fps and I’ve got 40gr v max runnin 3390-3400fps so I’m gonna try it..👊🏻
Props, u must have been a 1man snlper team.
Love just about everything griffin makes, including the handguards. The set screw on the side that goes into the barrel nut doesn't make much sense to me though, wonder why they do that
Would be interesting if Eotech made a version that could adjust drop of the BDC dots individually
Thank you 😊
Hell I run 14.5 with 855 and it’s still off by a bit. Best thing to do is test it out at very least remember where to hold at those distances.
If Eotech can make a biohazard reticle, they should be able to make a variety of reticles calibrated to whatever barrel length, caliber and design you want.
They have the less lethal reticles with windage, so why not add windage references and a dedicated quick ranging reticle on the side of the window?
Thank you.
You're welcome! Glad you found the video helpful.
What brand/model of rangefinder do you use?
Did Eotech happen to say if the EXPS3-2 first dot drop is the same MOA as your -4?
Nice video
Appreciate it, hope you enjoyed the video and found it helpful!
Any recommendations on tripods, whether it be low end, high end, average. Are the ebay camera ones worth it?
Leofoto, 2 Vets, rrs
2680 fps seems slow for m855 out of a 14.5” for the EOTech ballistic info. I usually see around 2880-2920.
I think I know the answer but you mess with any AKs?
Nah I’m not really an Ak guy. Maybe down the road but no short term plans
What ballistic calculater do you use?

Thank you for answering my question. You have by far the best TH-cam channel for shooters and gun enthusiasts! in which you explain how each caliber, scope , reticle, barrel length, ballistic data, distance, night vision, suppressor works In laymen’s terms. You have helped me alot with my shooting and understanding of ballistic data. I really appreciate it. Also I’m going to have to add that kAC suppressor that blows out the front to my trust very soon, I’ve always been A slincerco man.
What ballistics app/calculator do you recommend?
I’ve used the shooter ballistic calculator from Kennedy development group for years. Costs something like $10 in the App Store but it’s sell worth it.
Just curious I'm using a unity 2.26 riser how does this effect the same eotech you're using ??
Which ballistic calculator are you using in this video?
Running the shooter ballistic calculator by Kennedy development group. Costs something like $10 in the App Store
I sold off the eotechs because they were unbearable to use with my astigmatism especially with a magnifier.
You had me until you stated that you had to move your target. In there lies the biggest issue with a BDC reticle and the lack to dial in the distance or get a proper hold based off limited reticle details. Great job at showing us a design of experiments verification, but totally impractical.
I’m not following…. Pretty simple to make some small adjustments in order to fine tune a bdc to your specific setup
@ The BDC reticle is not very useful for targets that don’t match up to your drops. Having the option to move the targets is seldom a reality.
What tripod are you using?
I’m running the two vets recon with inverted legs here. Area 419 ball head.
What tripod do you use sir ?
I don't know which one he's using. I bought an inconell from Amazon, with carbon fiber legs. Love it. $200 I have mounts on my rifles, but you can by a clamp/ saddle for around sixty if desired
I run 6 arc and i run a 100yrd zero what would the dots be with that
What ballistic calculator app are you using?
That’s the shooter ballistic calculator by Kennedy development group. Costs something like $10 In the App Store.
@ thank you, sir! Strong work on the videos. I really enjoy them
@@MountainsMulletsMerica on the app, how do you calculate the sight offset with an eotech? I got the height over bore
